while using modwr you write the value of d10 to h2000, is this h2000 dependent on the manufacturer of the vfd or it can be used when using any type of vfd with delta plc?

Yes sir, I am thinking for MODBUS is it possible to use HMI's COMM2 as RS485 interface and VFD comm. setup as RS485 where the PLC is the master HMI and VFD are as slaves as peer to peer.

well, you can do that by assigning the different communication address to the VFD. Now you can control two VFD using Modbus. To make master slave operation its all about coding.

Hello. Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos. I am sure many of us would be completely lost if it weren't for people such as yourself who are willing to extend a helping hand. My field is actually embedded systems and as such I have very little exposure to plc. Modbus too is new to me. I would like to be able to communicate with the delta vfd via pc (not plc). Basically what I am trying to do is interface a small keypad to a pc using a micro-controller and rs232 protocol and then have the pc send the commands to vfd via modbus to vary frequency. Is that possible? I cant find modbus commands in the delta vfd manual.....

Well if you are doing it with PC., you have two option.1) Either you can use VFD Software named VFDsoft., in which you have parameter settings, VIsual monitoring and built in Keypad to control the VFD.2) You can use C program to directly read/write the register of VFD. What you say is possible. But why Micro-controller, if you are using PC, use PC controller and C as program. How doers it sound?PS. Sorry for late reply, i was bit occupied!

Thanx for the info. Your idea of using c program sounds fantastic...only problem is I dont know how I can do it. Actually I have never worked on the modbus protocol before and the delta vfd manual is very confusing to me. If u dont mind, I would like to take our discussion in a different direction- lets consider eliminating the pc part altogether and just try controlling the delta vfd using 8051 micro-controller alone. How can one vary the frequency of the vfd using micro-controller and modbus? What will be the modbus command for it? ps- thanx for replying back. means a lot to me.

Neo Avelino Hello Neo, I don't have idea about Micro-controller programming, have not really done it before. The idea is to write the value in 2000H register of VFD which defines the Operation and 2001H which defines the Frequency of VFD. SImilar you can read the value of feedback register of VFD. So the only way is to communicate the Controller with VFD using (9600, 7, EVEN, 1) and then Read/write the values.

Did you check the appropriate parameters for communication? Also the wiring.. ? Also kindly check if your VFD supports RTU or ASCII communication mode. This information is in the VFD manual.
