In War time, on a flat plain, the Tigers would open up a thousand meters away, Those Shermans would be lucky to get within 500 meters. The Tanks crews were highly trained, had the best optics, a devastating gun. And with Tanks aces like Wittman, the Tigers would come back with scratches and paint chips. And maybe a broken track or two.

I could see this happening in a British tank regiment but not a American regiment ,one 10 tigers caught in the open would be destroyed by allied air power or artillery ,second us tanks would not fan out like that until they we're within lethal range of the 75 mms gun plus they would lay down smokescreen blinding the tigers until they we're on top of them.

? I don't think you know what you are talking about. There were two finished Prototypes. The V1 and V2. Both were kept at Kummersdorf until being given the order to move to Böblingen. The V2 was ordered from there to proceed to the OKH as protection, with the V1 being taken with it for support. The V2 made it to Hindenburgplatz in front of Bunker Maybach 1. The V1 never made it there due to the quickening Russian advance. With the Russians literally keeping them under fire while the Germans made their exit. In the midst of the engagement the Germans were forced to sabotage the V2. It was reported the the V2 engaged the Russian advance to allow more time to retreat. The Russians late on after the war went back to try and take the Turret from the V2 and mate it was the Hull from the V1. The cross version that they created still exists in the museum. They may not have seen full combat like the Tigers but an engagement between the Russians is still combat, even if it only lasted a couple of minutes.

Tiger has better range, a better gun, and better armor. The Shermans have better speed and better mobility. Front to front: The Shermans get picked off by the Tigers from miles away. The 88mm can shred the thin armor like a hot knife going through butter. When the Shermans get in range their smaller gun can't penetrate the frontal armor of the Tiger, so they have to move around it to hit the less armored sides or rear of the Tiger. Even then, it can take multiple shots to fully put the Tiger out of action. Even if you had 5 Tigers and 50 Shermans, half the Shermans would be gone before they got in range. Now, put the more advanced Tigers and the Shermans might as well not try.

Johan Lassen Yes but we aren't talking about the 76mm variant. We are talking about the basic variant shown in the video. The 76mm variant wasn't put into action until July 1944 and by that time the Tiger 1 had stopped being produced and the Tiger 2 was now the most powerful tank on the battlefield. The 76mm Sherman could not penetrate the frontal armor on the Tiger 2 because at most it had 175mm of protection.

In what way? Who says the Allies could not make tanks with thick armor and a big gun if they wanted to? Look at the Pershing. Its about logistics. Its not worth putting that many resources into tanks if they will end up unable to pass most bridges and overstretching the supply train just to keep them operational. A tank that breaks down is worth as much as a tank that is destroyed - its a casualty.

Fantasy: For one there was bocage in the US sector in Normandy and ranges were short. There were also few Tigers that ever faced the Americans. Under such circumstances the Sherman enjoyed a number of advantages over most German armour. The attacker is usually at a substantial disadvantage. The Americans knocked out a bunch of German Panthers, with comparatively few loses to themselves, in a failed attack in the Le Dezert area in July 1944. Much of the myth of the Tiger comes from engagements such as Wittman's at Villiers-Bocage where he surprised the British. He was killed shortly thereafter when defending British Sherman Fireflies destroyed his and a further Tiger with a few well aimed shots. The later 76mm armed Sherman, introduced first for Operation Cobra, could deal with most German tanks and out manoeuvre the heavies. Later 76mm HVAP ammunition, which was admittedly scrounged only in limited numbers by the Sherman crews, could penetrate the frontal armour of a Panther or Tiger at 1000m. Well trained Sherman crews made short work of the North Korean T-34/85s in Korea. There are any number of perspectives to consider when looking at such questions. Another is that the German machines were often more unreliable and difficult to get where they were needed. And then of course the Germans could produce fewer than 2 000 of both marks of Tiger. There may be a strong argument for considering them over-engineered lumbering giants; they certainly were not a war winner.

If I had been a Sherman tank commander I don't think I would have been driving my tank in a straight line, making myself an easier target for the Tigers. I would have had some of my Shermans remaining stationary, dropping shells in the ground in front of the Tigers, kicking up smoke and dust so as to blind the Tigers so that my mobile Shermans could flank the Tigers and then attack from behind.

Btw the moving at full speed shermans get a HUGE penalty for spotting, target acquisition and accuracy co this outcome is not really surprising, maybe if you made them move a bit slower (and open them up, this although a bit risky fort he crew is VERY helpful) they would have a chance to use smoke rounds, but I don't know how much would it help.

The ballistics and armor are modeled pretty correctly. Tactics are modeled by.... either mickey mouse or goofy. Whichever one is drunker at the time. NO sherman commander would ever charge a line of Tigers in a frontal assault, that is about as sensible as using a minefield as a parade ground.

The 88mm could shred a Sherman at about 1 mile. Soo, fire, reverse, and repeat. Shermans should have never have gotten in range. Let alone get behind the tigers. it was allmost the same deal in ww2, exept germans usually had a clear hit from 2 miles away, and amuricans or UK had to sneak up too 500-800 m to even make any damage to German tanks, it was pafetic

Tanel Murd What is a benefit in one regard may be a detriment in another. The Tigers were poor city tanks. Slow, cumbersome, and vulnerable to flanking and long barrels made them difficult to maneuver in tight city blocks. Smart Sherman operators would avoid open areas and fight in cities where their tank could utilize their speed and compact nature.

Pathetic? You know the Germans lost more tanks to Western Allied tanks than vice-versa right? More Shermans killed Panthers than Panthers killed Shermans, for instance.
