As a commander player that's been trying to find the kind of deck I can enjoy playing on Arena standard and unironically I have been in LOVE with this rakdos burn deck. I only had the rares for two copies of grievous wound and my list is very different than Crim's because i don't have the wild cards for it but my WORD ITS SO FUN to just burn people down and have the best removal with black

Grievous wound is also a cool card! In fact it can be added right on turn to drop the opponent where unstoppable slasher doesn't always even get through, and doesn't have haste.

I think Mark Rosewater said on his blog that originally it was part of a different mechanic for the set that was reworked a few times. Think he also said they were trying to avoid too many comparisons to innistrad? I'll have to go find the post

“The card started as part of a mechanic, called injury, that we didn’t use in the set, so I think we saw it through that lens (as an injury rather than a curse).” “I don’t know whether or not they talked about it being a Curse in set design, but I do know there was a conscious attempt to keep Duskmourn separate from Innistrad, so that might have had a role.” Additionally as people have discussed/pointed out, an actual, physical grievous wound is not a curse; there's no mystical aspect to it.

He is playing 1, but honestly the reason to not play more is their slow. They always enter tapped, and they don't have a basic land type for the verges. You could arguable go down one or both of the restless lands, but the rummaging and menacing attacker is usually worth running at least on still. Plus this deck isn't all in on the grievous wounds plan, and honestly 3 grievous wounds might be 1 too many for this list.
