@@PaulGaither Jimmy and Josh say to run around 10 spot removal cards and about 4 board wipes so you kinda agree with them
@PaulGaither4 жыл бұрын
@@williamcarswell3012 - Those numbers have changed since earlier episodes. I have written EDH/Commander primers going back to 2007/2008. A lot of what I have been advocating for has now become standard practice. 2cmc rocks and ramp? Players mocked me and said they would rather play Darksteel Ingot which survives board wipes and ramps you from three to five. Similar arguments were made for Kodama's Reach and the card advantage vs 2cmc ramp and so forth. Now? 2cmc ramp is the standard and almost NONE of it is new. Sure, Arcane Signet and the enemy Talisman cycle, but the rest are 14+ years old. Eventually people will realize the power of cantrip graveyard removal. Few decks DON'T take massive advantage of the graveyard, and even against those, the cantrip nature of said removal makes them worth it.
@williamcarswell30124 жыл бұрын
@@PaulGaither what cantrip graveyard hate are you referring to because control based magic is where the game is heading due to how powerful 5 drop spells are becoming i also think land based decks need to be put in check soon before they completely sweep the format
@PaulGaither4 жыл бұрын
@@williamcarswell3012 - There are a lot. Relic of Progenitis is a classic, but any deck with black should also have Nihil Spellbomb. Phyrexian Furnace is not to be overlooked, though less powerful. Cranial Archive is a bit Mana intensive as well, yet also playable with all the other instant speed stuff we do in this format. Gaea's Blessing in green is another underplayed classic.

I feel like the only mistake really made in this game was Cyraique not taking Trevor out on his last turn, coulda done that by all-out swinging and pumping Hellkite twice. The other two decks really didn't have that much going on at that point, and Xenagod can be so explosive, especially if you're playing with infect. But even that is a judgement call.

Hello from Russian mtg community! What GWU commander would you recommend to fun play or maybe ultra value play?
@DarkEinherjar4 жыл бұрын
Mindslaver is the only turn-controlling effect that really deserves its hate, because of how easy it is to recur (hi Daretti)... Worst Fears exiles itself so it can't be used again, Sorin Markov is a PW ult that takes three rotations to set up without proliferate support and Emrakul, as you said, gives the controlled player an immediate extra turn so they have a chance to recover.
