Raleigh front fork lock: how to find the key number.

So, you have an old R.I. bike but it's missing the key. Here I show you how to dismantle the lock so you can find the key number to order a replacement.

The problem on my bike is that the key is broken inside the lock. The lock is in the open position (locking pin down) so I can’t extract the whole locking barrel from the fork. I understand that in order to remove the locking barrel, you first need the locking pin in the closed/up position. I do have a complete replacement lock with a key as well as just the correct replacement key with the matching serial number, but first I need to remove the whole lock, and I dont know how to do that. i am afraid the only way would be to drill the whole lock and destroy it, so I can remove that. please advise if you know any non distructive method to achieve that

If the key has snapped in the lock, removal should be even easier. You should be able to turn it with a screwdriver so the lock pin extends, then undo the securing bolt and proceed as in the video.

We eventually succeeded to turn the whole lock with the broken key inside to the locked position, so we could disengage the locking pin and extract it. That allowed to remove the whole locking cylinder and we could replace it with a spare one I had in stock

@@The_Car_Sanctuary that is exactly what we did. We replaced the whole locking barrel with a spare one I kept in stock, so the problem is solved. The broken key inside the original barrel is still stuck inside, and it’s not easy to remove it. I do have the matching key I can use when we will finally get it out
