My friend and carpenter, Noah, has been over here building an addition and remodeling my garage/shop/showroom for the past year or so instead of riding his bicycle. He says it's not working right, so I'm gonna give it the BikeFarmer service treatment. It really turned into a fun little bike fixing video! Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for swapping out that cable and housing. Glad figuring that out was satisfying for you. Very excited to have smooth shifting once again. May have to go gor a ride this weekend. No worries about Deadpool. I found him like that in the middle of the road on a ride one day- headless, but still giving a thumbs-up. He's been my hood ornament / inspiration ever since. If he can be that optimistic without a head, I can make it up that next hill.

So glad I found this channel. I work in my university’s bike shop, where 90% of the bikes we get in are like this or “worse”. Sure, electronic shifting and 13 speed campagnolo is fun to play with, but these bikes are where my heart really is. Real bikes for real people.

I hope more people watch these videos and appreciate that bikes used to be easily repaired or maintained. I looked up a kit to do maintenance on a dosc brake, the tool kit is $200. Contrast to my current rim brakes require only a $1 allen wrench.

@BikeFarmer: Hey Andy, got a question for you. Think you could do a video on converting a non-disc brake bike to disc brakes? I'm asking because I like Noah's bike having dual disc brakes, and I've been thinking of converting my 29" hardtail to dual discs. It has a front disc brake now. I've had a dual disc brake setup before on a bike, and I like how discs feel a lot smoother than V-brakes or even cantilever brakes. But I don't really know what goes into converting a bike from V-brakes to disc brakes, other than obviously, I need a rear hub that can mount a rear disc, and the caliper, pads, and mounting hardware. But how to put it together kind of eludes me, and I'd like to see how you would do it, if you've ever done a conversion before.
@MetalTiger88
@MetalTiger88 3 ай бұрын
first of your frame and your fork needs a mounting spot for the brake caliper. if there are no mounting points you can't convert it. but if you have these, all you need are two new wheels with discbrake hubs, either center lock or a 6 screw one. then of course two discs, either 160/180 or 203mm diameter. depends on your frame and fork. and last but not least the brakes itself (caliper,lever and brakehose). but to be honest with you, it's gonna be very expensive to do a conversion. i would just buy a bike with discbrakes😅

@isaiahwelch8066
@isaiahwelch8066 3 ай бұрын
@@MetalTiger88 : Just because you may not have mounting points for a caliper on the frame doesn't mean you can't convert. I've seen online videos where people talk about the performance of a conversion kit, without actually doing the conversion. And as far as I know, a mounting bracket that essentially mounts over the rear axle and dropout, and secures by a clamp on the frame tubing, is what is needed. That way, the caliper can be mounted. That being said, if a brake cable and housing(s) are in good shape, they can be reused. I'm not looking to install hydraulic brakes, as I would rather have cable-actuated brakes.

unless your REALLY REALLY REALLY attached to the frame and want to ride it with disc then go thru the motions to convert but I like the old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. then again some practice for your welding skills and frame layout and some welding jigs then that's something else. school is never cheap, institution or hard knocks...
