I have a Peak Design phone holder I'm using for touring. It works as I would expect. Well.

Fellow mechanic and bike enthusiast here. This is one of my favourite videos you've made. #3 resonated with me so hard. 1x's are what I am trying to build for everyone. Cross chaining and front derailleur ineptitude is brutal to deal with.

Just got a 1x12 Trek. Love it. Love not having to think about front derailleur. And 10-44 range in the back gives me a wider range than my 2x road and gravel bikes!

Someone sometimes asks me "how much does your bike weigh?" "Well, being 190 lbs myself, my bike's weight is the lesser of my problems."

Don't take your $30 yard sale bike to the shop. They'll take 10 days to fix it because they've got all those "real" Colnagos, andCinellis (is that still a thing?) to fix first. Stanford Campus bikes manager is great; the staff are usually great, too; though some have let themselves be infected by the bike snob pandemic. You meet the most interesting people when you ride a bike. NONE of them ride high-end machinery. These are the folks who park their Beemer and Merc bikes sidewise at the rack, taking up 3-4 spaces. Are you with me on this? I'm sorely tempted to get a $150 motorcyle chain and lock and... yeah, you guessed right. Except that my Higher Self knows that the only way truly to win against them is to be utterly calm and see the wondrous humor of it all, and let their karma take care of it. Which it absolutely always does. If you generate selfishness and disharmony, the Universe has a marvelous way of delivering a good spanking sooner or later.

Great build! Something to keep in mind, especially with a small frame, is those bikes already have a stoopid long top tube, so they really need a short stem to help compensate. When I found my slow bike, a '92 RockHopper, at the pawn shop it was all original; riding it to the bike shop for a refurb I felt like Superman I was so stretched out. Now she's all decked out with an 80mm stem and a Velo-Orange Tourist bar, mirror, Brooks B17 saddle, rear rack, kickstand, Maxxis DTH tires, Planet Bike Cascadia fenders, and purple resin pedals. 🥰She's my go everywhere do everything bike and I'm her only limiting factor. And thanks; your vid tells me that the cantis on my other bike ('95 Trek Singletrack 930) need adjusting. I'll have to look for some Dawn Powerwash too.

I would have started with the bars, a lot of tasks you did are down hill from a bar swap. I like the look of the old stem better, jus change the cable out. You must have an old rear cable stashed someplace. One of the oldest budget swaps in bike is the a new rear cable and a swap to the front with old rear cable. It's pre stretched too!

You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Please don't waste your time bagging the few when the many need your knowledge all of the time.

lol, my bike weighs 53 lbs. Fresh from the dealership. In running condition it´s more like 260 lbs (my own weight counts as well). So much for the question of how much a bike weighs.

There is a good phone holder, look for motorcycle ones, super sturdy and designed to be rock solid. Once you tighten it down your phone isn’t going anywhere. Funny story I had someone try steal my phone out of it and couldn’t 😂😂😂 looked like such a dumb ass half trying to run away and half trying to pull it out before I yelled at her. 2:00

Heh, I only have 3 bicycles at the moment. I've been English all my life, and currently have only 3 bicycles, all invented across the pond where you are! One is a an Electra Beach Cruiser, and the other two are both Fat Tire Mountain bikes!! More fun is the fact that I had to have the coaster brake removed because I HATED it! Coaster brakes have never really been a thing here in the UK, so it was totally strange to me. My first ever bike that I paid for was a Raliegh, though I don't recall any other name on it. It was just a level handle bar bike with 3 speed Sturmey Archer rear hub. I was 12 when I started paying monthly for it,and I believe 14 when I finished! No idea what happened to it as that was nearly 60 years ago now! Had a Peugeot Mountain Bike waaaaay back when MTBs were the latest thing. 😁

Long story short, I've been a lifelong cyclist, mtb'r, and triathlete. At 60, I was diagnosed with Stage four. After three bowel surgeries and 35 (and counting) chemo infusions, I have the strength of my five year old self with half the stamina. I bought a mtb ebike which kept me riding on the trails for 18 months. I continue to lose strength and have a hard time getting it in and out of the truck. I bought a purely pedestrian utility ebike that I ride out of my garage now. This is an evolution as I know I am not long for this world. Ebikes have allowed me to continue to get out and smile in the sunshine. I even ride my bike to get my infusions occasionally! I will continue as long as I can . My racing, competitive days are long gone and that is okay. But I still have some sunshine and smile days in front of me. My ebikes and the way I ride them are extending my quality and happiness in life!
