Raleigh Twenty group ride, August 2020

Gave up on editing it and just chucked all the footage I shot together.

I just got a 1980 none folding Raleigh 'Solitaire' model; one lady owner from new. It's a 'spanker', having been in off the ground dry storage for most of its life. A quick wash removed the dust to reveal what is to me, a brand new bike. Paint, chrome, all rubber & plastic items are A1. The deep red metalic colour is sublime. Judging by the tyres and brake blocks I recon its done no more than 10 miles in 43 years. All for a charity donation of £30. It's standing next to me in my lounge and looks perfect from any angle. The case on the SA hub has a number code, which dates it to May 1980 (80-5). The 'Solitaire' frame emblem is a Rose and I think I'll call her my English ROSE!

Got one two weeks ago. Replaced the wheels, fenders, seat post, saddle, brake pads. (Tires are in the mail…) Can’t wait to ride this thing!

i still have mine, bought it in 1983, and restored it two years ago. Believe it or not it runs faster than my mountain bike (1989 Raleigh Mustang). Very sophisticated bicycle. It gets more than "just the job done".

@@hazzalandy i will do so! thank you. It is very interesting that there is still a strong following for this old bike. I have read that in UK there are still used by many people.

@@hazzalandy what is the weight and the color of your Mustang? i think that they had specific colors for each one. I remember i had chosen the red black one, and it also had a yellow blue one that was more expensive because it was lighter. Of course at this age, i chose based on color preference. My Mustang with fenders and kickstand weighs 19kg. i am thinking of upgrading the wheels and tyres to alloy and a low resistance tire. the front wheel weighs 2.5 kg. it is too much.

@@Kerveros1904 White and pink! Bought it to sell on, so only had it a few weeks. Aluminium rims will be way better for braking tio

You still see a lot of these bikes for sale in good riding condition. They really made these to last.

I had a Raleigh Twenty back in the early 1970’s with the big removable bag on the carrier at the back. It was a heavy bike though and hard work with only 3 gears. I am not sure what happened to mine I think my parents sold it or gave it away in the late 1970’s

Uber cool bikes the only bike to beat these is a moulton delux
