I'm not an engraver but I am a hobby machinist and watched these two videos back to back and thoroughly enjoyed them, my lathe will be the last thing I part with in this world!

you have learnt me much, would never have thought of mounting work piece in tool holder with milling bit in lathe chuck for eg. just shows how you can over think stuff sometimes. love the way you work and I will definitely be having a go at making one of these. Thank you for sharing your knowledge very much appreciated.

Hi there buddy, great video you explain everything with a great level of detail, I am intrested in trying my hand at making a springless style airgraver that will run of a direct air flow...I have seen a few different bluprints for them and have seen a couple videos, Im wondering have you ever tryed to make one? And would there be any chance you would consider doing a video on them?
@ralex397 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The hand-pieces I make and the modified clones are the simplest to build, It takes an experienced machinist to make a Lindsay style graver, my videos are geared for beginners with little or no machine shop skills. I'm getting too old to spend time in the shop now or I would. Glad you enjoyed the videos!

There are drill bits that we call aircraft bits , That don't drift off like normal bits do , but they will break easily
@jameshohimer25426 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason you did not drill the 1/4 " hole all the way thru while you were making the pilot hole for the larger drill?
@ralex3976 жыл бұрын
Just in case the drill walked or pulling off center, to keep the holes concentric. Personal preference, the way I do it. You could drill the 1/4" hole all the way through if you know your machine and what works best on it. I have done it both ways.

Why not make the shuttle style hand piece aren't they better than the spring style because of air pressure! Instead of suck and blow!
@ralex39711 ай бұрын
I am very happy with this design, I don't engrave enough to justify buying a GRS system, I'm sure they are nice but I can build this system for a little over $100, and it works very well with my HP's and modified clone hand-pieces. Not sure how I would go about making a "shuttle style"

Was very distraught when I watched Shaun Hughes take your handpiece apart and bastardize it in what seemed a very ungracious manner while patting himself on the back with his apparent spring knowledge that was way past left field. He was so busy pounding his own chest that he failed to see just how stupid was some of his theory. I guess he felt threatened.
