You brought thoughtful insight into our first trip to Scotland,, so much that we are going again THIS DECEMBER 👍 we can only go in the winter,, but we love it. Cheaper low season rates, no midges,, much less traffic and tourists to deal with,, yes it’s wet and cold ! I've seen the Organic in our New Hampshire state liquor stores but never took a chance on it until seeing this review. Thanks - I'm not disappointed. Your quick mention of the 15 year old made me get one of those too and I'm quite impressed with that one. I bought a third expression, this one is a single barrel, cask strength 59.9% ABV bottled just for our state stores. A real firecracker, that one.

As to the review, was very nice to sit down with the 2010/2016 version of this whisky I have in my cupboard, again I have to agree with pretty much everything you said on this one, damn fine drop, love Benromach!

About a whisky's character changing after a few pours, I've been noticing that in just about every whisky I've tried. Last time was with Talisker 10. My first glass of that was just this overwhelming blast of ash that felt almost as if I was licking an ashtray. My wife felt tobacco in my breath. Tried again over the next couple of days and it completely changed on me, the ash toned down A LOT, and now I get the pepper, the citrus and a little bit of salt that were completely out of reach on the first pour.

Been watching this video with a tiny dram of Talisker 10 YO. Now that I am finishing the sample of 200 ml, the peat is coming for last in mounth. When I first opened it, peat was hitting first.

Last year I bought a bottle of Ardbeg's Kelpie. The first dram tasted SO overwhelmingly fishy. I couldn't believe it. It was horrible. I waited a week or so and the next time I tried it, it was totally different. That bottle got better and better as I drank it. Probably the most memorable bottle of Ardbeg I've had.

This was one of four samples I tasted at the Benromach distillery back in May. It was definitely my least favorite, which was surprising to me because I’ve seen so many good reviews. Maybe I need to try it again. The 15yr was my favorite, followed by the 10yr, followed by the peat smoke. I adore the 15 year though! I’m on my second bottle. Great review as always Ralphy.

Very timely review Ralfy. I've been considering picking up a bottle of this as I've just finished Benromach Triple Distilled, which is good stuff by the way. You have touched on organic whisky in the past - Springbank Green, remember that and the carrots?

Found this challenging when new (I'm not too far on my journey too). Was a cracking deal in M&S (reduced to around £28 iirc) and thought it was worth a try. The change with Oxygen is significant. Quite a nice change of pace to more standard offerings to novices like myself

I went through a bottle of Benromach Organic a few months ago and absolutely loved it! Don't know if it was the 2010 version as the Aussie retailer where I got it from last mentions the 2008 version! Am annoyed I did not take more notice of the story on the bottle now! Anyway, have just ordered another two bottles because I've realised when Ralfy has high opinions of a whisky, stock disappears quickly!

Hey Ralfy! Would you consider reviewing Bunnahabhain Móine, the 46,3 version? I'm kinda confused since I've seen multiple reviews of a Bunnahabhain Moine, but they seem to be of an earlier release which was Oloroso matured? I personally really enjoy this Moine however, as it's peaty and fruity and comes at a shockingly low price tag for an Islay single malt at around 43€ per bottle, in Finland.

Yeah - about that Ralfy. My wife has an amazing sense of smell and can spot nuances of smell on a single malt that I struggle to find (primarily because my nose has been broken multiple times and doesn't work as well as it once did). However, she can't even have a sip of whisky as it reacts badly with her. So,I get to drink it all myself. No sharing here :)

I was considering visiting the Isle of Man and Islay (the only part of Scotland I have yet to see). Do you conduct any tastings or demonstrations? Would love to have a dram with you

Also I joined The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. They have their “Vault” on the outskirts of Edinburgh. All their whisky is cask strength and all i chill filtered with no color added ever. Apparently the purchase raw casks from various distilleries and open, strain and bottle. The place and the whisky is outstanding. I highly recommend you purchase a bottle from their website and review. They are sold by number, not distillery name but you can look up the corresponding distillery online pretty easily. Thanks for always providing such great info. Keep it up!!

Being generally curious about organic whisky and being inspired by your review, I got me a tasting leftover bottle with 200ml. "Label says Distilled in 2010 - Bottled in 2015". Searching for other bottles online show "2010/2016" or your one here ("2010/2017") and the latest version with 2011/2018. I am a bit confused why they'd bottle different ages varying from 5 (my version) to 7 years maturation (your version) and still designing them all the same except for the years declared in the lower right part of the label. Were Benromach kind of "experimenting" with this new concept and therefore putting 5, 6 and 7 yo versions on the market?

Organic whisky can only be called organic if it is made from organic barley. That barley has to be more resistant to disease and pest, as it is illegal to use pesticides on organic produce. The different character of the barley should come across in the finished product. And apparently it does. I'm not surprised. Looking forward to meeting this whisky.

. . . I am, this is an age-stated vintage 2010 malt either 6 or 7 years old. Grooves is just disappointing jobbing wine cask Ardbeg which could have been a lot better but instead is a shadow of what Ardbeg used to be. You need to taste old Ards: to see the difference.

Ralfy, from what Benromach tell me, your whisky is probably just over 6 years old. Much more and the virgin oak would overpower the spirit. Also, have you ever reviewed Deanston organic? There are 14 and 15 year old versions available.
