Any plans to review Wireworks Malts yet?

Are there any real sherry casks used to mature whisky? The casks used to mature sherry are all very, very old, some even hundreds of years old. They don't want any active casks for sherry. How can you use something like that for whisky? I thought all of the whisky sherry casks were seasoned. It's just that most producers of whisky won't tell you that.

The Whisky Cellar bottled an 11 Year old Blair Athol a couple years back, finished in a 125 year old Sherry barrel. Was incredible. But yes, when I see Sherry Cask (either finished or fully matured) these days, I tend to assume it's seasoned only.

78/100 as a mark. It wouldn't happen to that kind of bottles a few years ago. But with the price pressure, it has to be done sometimes. Too hot for sherrymatured stuff right now. I spoil myself for birthday with an Indri Single Cask (Bourbon). Hope its any good, never had Indri. I hope for a tropical fruit burst!

I can't get a bottle of this from my local wine shipper shop, they have to order a minimum of six bottles, and they won't do that. On Ralfy's recomenndation then, I order a bottle via Amazon, delivery tomorrow 10th July 2024 IF I like it, and to be honest I'm not a 'peat head' by any means, (Laphroaig was a bit of a shock, like drinking liquid kippers, however, I persevered and maybe a nip of Laphroaig at breakfast with a kipper may not be a bad thing?) IF I DO like the Kilchoman 'Sanaig' then I will say to my local shop, sod it, order six, I'll buy four and you can put the other two on the shelf. I have 7 other Kilchoman's (various) unopened, I am at the start of my whisky odyssey and although I've come to it late in life I know I am going to enjoy it. I do wish my dad was here to go on this journey with me, I used to bring him a bottle of duty free Glenfiddich single malt when I returned from my travels outside of our duty free zone. He'd have loved all the different whiskies now available and like me, he never drank for effect, more for pleasure. Every time I try a dram in my Glencairn glass I haul out my tasting notes journal and DTG (date, time, group) the tasting experience. One more thing, like I said I'm new to this lark, the phrase 'scotch mist' was known to me, though the meaning was not, and even then I thought it was 'Scots mist'. Imagine my delight when I saw it appear in a glass of Bunnahabhain cask strength, natural colour, non chill filtered whisky after just a few drops of spring water. IF shown to me, I'd have thought the whisky was 'wrong' - now I know different, now I know. My palate and nose is still pretty much hopeless and most of the subtle flavours and aromas are lost to me, no forever I hope!

I know you don't give 2 hoots about blended generic stuff. But pls help me find out what's up with Johnnie Walker! The black label has changed! No peat, just some blended crap

Ralfy thank you for the reviews. I have really started getting into sipping whisky. I have had some bottles for years but never manage to muster up the courage to open a £500 bottle until recently. It's only recently I was thinking if I would ever buy a whisky from an independent boiler. I just wanted to buy original but then having watched this video it's really given me a different perspective. Would you be able to recommend a high end independent botler you know are good. I think you may have mentioned it in the video but I couldn't make out who they were. What do you think of signatory or hard to find as independent bottlers. Thank you friend.

True totaly my new whisky friend! In Catalonia drink wine of top quality for example, Priorat Wine, and is better than Rioja wines for me. I buy in the celler and drink brandy distillery near at home. This is great! A lot! I speak from whisky but my natural proximity drink are those. Like you channel! Regards! Cheers!

Hey ralfy, would you rather have this one or a Speyburn 15?

Top review this Ralfy! It’s important to cover that not every single indie bottle is a stunner. I’ve had a couple that have been quite difficult to access in terms of smell and taste, as well as some very mediocre bottles. This is a thing to be aware of, and a reason to always check out reviews before buying a bottle. Cheers!

That was a so important statement or two.

Ralfy, your mimics after sipping, says all😂doesn’t need words. Is this experience similar to Talisker’s hot chili catch, maybe because of a similarly fast production process?

Adding in to create a blend is so worthwhile . My cheap Prohibition becomes very interesting by adding perhaps 3 mg of Madeira and 3 mg water. An experiment with an amazingly good outcome.

Can I suggest a MaltMention? I've tasted Bunnahabhain Cruach Mhona lately, it's a heavily peated Bunnahabhain. I'd like to know your opinion about this whisky. I found it a very interesting whisky.

Funny thing is I will mix rum with cola, pickled cherries in vodka, but I have never mixed whisky with anything. Been binge watching your videos with notepad in hand and internet to find what I can get in Canada. Have a good day

The only Glenfiddich I keep in the cellar permanently are the 15yo and 30yo, plus I still have a few cases of Snow Phoenix left; but they have entered the collectable sphere now. Having said that, I will say, in the past few months I have added Fire and Cane to that list. I do really enjoy Fire and Cane. I think they hit the mark with that one.

Hi mr. Ralfy, really nice to meet you. Maybe you'll consider reviewing good old Bell's in 2024 and telling a little about its history? I live in Eastern Europe and first saw this whiskey in the 90s, when “The Benny Hill Show” was broadcast in our country (as I later found out, he had already died at that time). Since then I have the impression that Bell's is such a common iconic whiskey in the UK. Is this really true?

I have to get my recommendations here and elsewhere because we have a state run liquor system, no specialist shops. On the plus side, every store has the same available inventory and all at the same price which is very competitive against surrounding states.

What 24-25 yr old scotch that is still relatively affordable can you recommend that represents the age factor the best . IE , notes you could only get from older scotch.

I love Glenatuchers espically sherried. I have a Glentauchers 17 OB bottle. Also have a first fill sherry and almondtillado cask and all 3 are cracking drams. Carn Mor independent bottles always provide great juice.
