Your comments on the current trade tariff drama is appreciated. A lot of people are soiling their trousers and freaking out. Wiser and calmer heads are taking a more "wait and see" approach.

I bought a few extra bottles of Scotch this month but I did not go and panic and buy 10 or 20 bottles of Scotch.

Erik, Ralfy is right, click bait Trump headlines re trade tariffs are sensationalist news. Nothing new here, countries negotiate them all the time, but of course scare tactic news get more traction these days. I wouldn't panic.

I bought a £450 bottle of "Auld Boaby" on Ebay recently. The advert said it would only appeal to absolute "dobbers", which I believe is the correct term for a whisky specialist. I liked the traditional pattern on the box, which consisted of a man playing bagpipes in a green and white hooped football shirt : "Ha-way, ya dobber, ya !" is emblazoned on the label. On opening the whisky, I was amazed by its taste. It was advertised as "uniquely sweet and refreshing" and was extremely similar to cold tea, so I am pleased with the uniquness. However, I drank two large glasses and could feel no alcoholic effect whatsoever. I especially liked the individual gift card, which read " Ya great dobber, ya!!' and included a photograph of the distiller, laughing wildly at the camera, waving £450 and raising his cup of tea to me in friendship. Two of his friends were also in the photograph, both smiling widely and toasting my good health with a cup of tea. I am not sure if I will buy any more "Auld Boaby", as nobody else seems to have heard of it, but will put it down to experience on my journey to becoming a great wallopping dobber.

Good evening Sir.I'm right with you on small/independent distillery whisky.I recently bought a bottle of 15 year old Springbank. The first I've tried from this distillery. What a great dram, one of the best I've ever had but with a healthy price tag ( I live in Germany) I'm a big Glenfarclas fan again because they are a family run operation.Their prices though are very reasonable.

I really like Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair, at 46.3% none chill filtered, and no added coloring, it's a fine whisky, granted there's no age statement but the taste is outstanding!!, So smooth, and the flavour is very nice, I can sip it straight, but adding a hint of water, and it's even better, but just a wee bit. I would recommend trying this whisky, you won't be disappointed.

You talked about tariffs etc in other countries. On line prices in New Zealand converted to GBP all at the same whisky/whiskey specialist shop Tamdhu 15 yr old (same as you reviewed) GBP = 98 per 700ml Glnfdch 15 yr old (Solera) =41per 700ml Glnfdch 15yr old( Distillers edition - Non chill filtered, and at 51%ABV) =72 per 1000ml I can't find your reviewed version of Glnfdch though. Just remember we are an bunch of islands a very long way from anywhere so every bottle would be air freighted in direct from Scotland (half way around he world)

Spot on in regards to the tariffs and culture shock. I've lived abroad most of my life and whenever I go back home (USA) it always seems a bit strange.

Question. Can you tell me which review you used an alcohol refractometer on please? Time moves swiftly and now I'm unsure which one it was. I bought (on e-bay) one from China. $25.98nz delivered! Very nice instrument, can be calibrated (instructions - easy to follow enclosed) measures to 80% abv. Which review ?

Ralfy, we know you like your spirits but how do you feel about beer or wine? Personally they lack a 'kick' for me, in terms of flavour intensity.

I watched an interview with a glengoyne rep and he stated that a european oak sherry cask takes 6 years to make and season and costs around 1500 pounds.

@@thewhiskybothy the Juha is right, but you did well sir! It´s very hard to learn the proper pronunciation for non-native speaker so even if you tried to do the "zhee" thing, it would sound totaly wierd, so sticking just to Jiri is so much pleasing to hear..

Notice the fill-level of the Glenfiddich 15 hasn't gone down much Ralfy ;-) I get what you're saying about the difference in price of these malts but I don't see why Tamdhu 15 needs to be £10-20 more than some other great 15YO malts from small craft distilleries. Me thinks they are taking the piss slightly with £80.

It will drive up the cost of single malt scotch in the US. Tariffs are sometime needed but there is no strategic rationale behind Trump's tarriffs. The EU is one big protectionist trading bloc but they are a walk in the park compared to what China gets away with. Plus, we need our European partners to help tame China's extreme mercantilist tendencies.
