After Dramface gave this bottle 9/10 I searched high and low, couldn't find it anywhere. No website even had it listed as out of stock. Then one night after watching Roy's Vpub I went searching for the Benromach 2014 Organic that he got so excited about (I wonder if you'll review that one Ralfy?) and I just stumbled upon the Inchfad 16 on Royal Mile Whiskies, 1 left in stock. I said f*** the Benromach! It was £105.95 including postage. It arrived a few days later... bottle number 191 out of 191 😎

Loch Lomond has become one of my favourite distilleries. They can make a crazy variety of whiskies by not even using different casks necessarily, but different distillation and fermentation techniques, and in my opinion make product that's ten times better as what some much more aestetically beutiful distilleries bring out.

The shop I go to has a very good selection of independent bottlings. I've found that I really enjoy independent bottlings of Caol Ila, and they're far better than the official Caol Ila 12.

I'm visiting Scotland in May for the first time & plan to buy 2 or 3 independent bottling to bring home to the USA that I just don't have the option to buy here. I'll "maybe" buy a bottle at a distillery if they have an interesting option that is not core range. I'm budgeting to bring home 4 or 5 total. Just really excited to get an independent bottle

Excellent. I really enjoy the Loch Lomond offerings. 12 is my go-to at home, it is non-chill filtered and natural color. The price-point is very good. It used to be about $37 where I live in the States, but it is now about $42. Still a great value. I can't find the older age statement Loch Lomond here, but I'm looking. It is just good Scotch.

I've tried a few, including a madeira-finished NAS Inchmurrin, also the 12 year Inchmoan and Inchmurrin, but like the Loch Lomond 12 best. Very lively and fruity. The only malt where I get fresh strawberry notes.

I’m so glad you mentioned the importance of provenance to the IB customer. I’m never going to take a punt on a £130 bottle without knowing the cask styles and maceration time in each AND that it’s NCF/NC. However, like you I can be swayed by a tasting as it negates the risk, but the specialist retailer can only open a limited number of bottles for this purpose. Far better that the information is displayed on the bottle at the outset.

Great stuff, HAVE to try that new 16yo, the 15yo Inchfad, Amontillado Sherry Finish, also by Dram Mor was my Malt of the year for 2023, absolutely loved that stuff and still do, funny enough that bottling also was 53,2% Vol. 🥂

Adjusting the microphone or using another one would up the audio quality of the videos. The one beeing used either picks up background noises or adds white noise. . Just my opinion on how to make the videos better, not ment as criticism.

My speakers volume is on 40% and video volume is on 10% and it's loud and clear, no noise. Check your system :)

Thumbs up, Ralfy! I mostly buy indie bottled anymore, and even those - usually on clearance in areas where there just aren't enough anoraks :) I doubt I'll ever find this one, but it's nice to see the direction that Loch Lomond is going. I've enjoyed a few of their official bottlings, Inchmoan, Inchmurrin, but so far like Loch Lomond 12 the best, I get actual notes of fresh strawberries. Would be nice to see Glen Moray be taken in that direction - just 46%/NCF/Natural color - that's all. Even keep the dull labels, just give us the better format. I love the anorak darlings but I also root for the distilleries that are stuck in the dungeon of mediocrity or beginnerdom.

Loch Lomond does not look like a dump. I've spent an entire day there and that's simply not the case. Industrial? Yes. Dump? Definitely not.

88 was a pretty decent mark back when Ralfy wouldn't review below 80. Now he starts at 70, so 88 is pretty high in that context. I doubt most of us could afford the 90+ bottles :) I like that he expanded downward, it allows him to critique the mediocre bottles without getting too negative.
