Fluffy made an appearance. 😺 Nice kitty cat surprise. Interesting that you talk about Ardnamurchan using good casks. I think coming from an independent bottling background puts them a step ahead of most others. They already understand the impact that a good or bad cask can have on a whisky. It will be interesting to see who takes out the best new distillery category in future. Ardnamurchan are on a trifecta so can't be put forward this year, and next year they will be more than 10 years old. Cheers!

Currently reading a book about ancient volcanism in Scotland. Ardnamurchan peninsula plays a prominent role. In fact, the remnants of a super volcano can still be observed today. It is a very interesting place in so many ways.

Ardnamurchan and Adelphi know their whisky! It's very fascinating looking up divining rods and ley lines. If the folks at Adelphi knew about this beforehand, they have some explaining to do.

Great great video Ralfy with really sage advice for up and coming distilleries. You also piqued my interest discussing the somewhereness or terrior inherent in malts and look forward to that content. In some ways it ties in with the marketing in as much as that somewhereness is what will ultimately make a malt great. Like wine where really good wine makers make wine to express site with minimal interference from wine making trickery. I hope to get a bottle of Ardnamurchan one day but just checked their website and my nearest Bangkok retailer is a 3 hour plane flight in Hong Kong

Can you do a pairing for example with scones or apple pie something that pairs well with desert and one for grilled meats on charcoal ???????

It is simply not true that all of the wood used in the American whiskey industry is kiln dried. Maker's Mark and Woodford Reserve only use air dried oak. Michter's uses oak that has been air dried for a minimum of 18 months and has used oak air dried for as long as 5 years. And what is really the most typical method used is a combination of air drying and kiln drying, with the kiln only being used after the wood has already been air drying for a minimum of 6 months. Also, kiln drying is NOT a cost saving issue. Air drying is far cheaper. Kiln drying is expensive because the equipment and energy used are expensive, and there is a premium paid for getting the wood ready to use at the distillery more quickly.

I think Ardnamurchan will be great in time with them doing all the right things- but these whisky's are just very young and the whisky tastes like it. The hype would have you believe it tastes like a 10-12yo whisky and it just doesn't yet. In due time perhaps

Tax you say Ralfy? Come on down to Australia - it is absolutely out of control.
@torbjornkarlsen10 ай бұрын
The alcohol tax alone for one 0.7 liter bottle of 46% ABV whisky is £21.33 in my country, Norway. The effect is that since this is a flat tax, I never buy cheap whisky.

What has happened to Australia, if you don’t mind me asking? They were a no-nonsense up and coming economy and nation… but lately they seem to have got tangled up in big government and nonsense. It’s a bit upsetting as someone who always fantasize of retiring there one day…

Hi ralfy I love your reviews, and I watch every video with bated breath I have one question to ask, how do I subscribe to your patreon channel and donate five dollars a month, because I subscribed for five dollars and it only bought a five dollar amount one time 🕐 I want to do that per month, is there a way to do it monthly, I can't figure it out, I guess I'm just stupid and I'm new to the patreon process, I just don't do any patreon channel support at all, so can you please help me out with this matter, thanks ahead of time for this matter, love your reviews and cheers on your ardnurmurcan review, a great whiskey in my opinion, I have a bottle of ardnurmurcan AD . 7.21.04 that I bought a few years ago, looking forward to opening the bottle, it's hard to find ardnurmurcan in my neck of the woods, love your kitty sharing whiskey and mice, waiting for the xtras next 😂 !!!

I finally broke the bank and bought an Ardnamurchan, the AD, and I gotta say that I was quite dissapointed, it was quite ethanol'y, which was not expected at all, given all the hype, it is as if it has been "cut" a bit "early", which is often done to acheive a higher yield....;- / - Hate to say it, I would have loved to love it, but it will take a while before I buy another one....;- / (Slightly edited....;- )

I had similar thoughts after trying recently. Not terrible though. The peat/smoke helped calm things and hold it together.

This is what frustrates me about this community. Is it good “young” whisky, yes it is, but it’s still young. The echo chamber we all seem to participate in gets so caught up in hyping things up that we often miss touting the “young” part. This isn’t 18, 15, or even 10 year old whisky. It’s hardly 5 in most cases.

Ralfy, why do you praise Ardnamurchan as a good new distillery if they don't direct fire their stills or run a worm tub condenser or do their own maltings? They don't do any of the good things you say new distilleries should do to set themselves apart, yet you still praise them.
