We competed in the 2WS Rally of the Hills being our first State Round in my Mazda RX2. We were one of the last cars #62. Also in the Toyo Tire Power round. 39.52, not a rally shot, just waiting in the car park before the start. Col Anderson navigating this time. Great memories, thanks for posting.

What are the group G cars? Are they similar to group B?

They were an Australia only two wheel drive class.

Hugh Bell's RX7 wasn't as powerful as seemed to be claimed in the video. It's monster bridge port had about 220-230hp after it was properly muffled (read strangled). BDAs, some of the Datto 1600s had Nissan LZ20s, Brisco's RX3 was a PP (big HP!), TR8 and maybe the V8 Stanza that year(?), Jone's Commodore etc, had as much or more. Hugh liked the power spread between 4000 to 7000 rpms that made it very drive'able, and he was just so bloody fast in anything! Shame he didn't win the WRC that year, 6 events entered, 3 x wins, 3 x DNFs. Australia's best driver to never win it, and without doubt, Australia's fastest rally driver ever, David 'Dinta' Officer says that too ....
