One of the best pure boxers of the 50's and 60's! Ralph Dupas was an excellent technician with limited power so he had to reply on his boxing skills and footwork to beat some of the best fighters of his era. He's become underrated and somewhat forgotten through the years which is a shame because he had a lot of class and talent. www.patreon.com/haNZAgod

Sadly, he was a very much forgotten legend. Ralph defeated such men as Joey Giardello, Virgil Akins, Paddy DeMarco, Kenny Lane, Denny Moyer, Gil Turner, Cisco Andrade, Del Flanagan, Frankie Ryff, Vince Martinez, Joe Miceli, Carlos Chavez, Johnny Gonsalves, Harold "Baby Face" Jones, Gaspar Ortega, Ramon Fuentes, Armand Savoie, Gerald Gray, Mickey Northrup, Mickey Crawford, Johnny Busso, Rudell Stitch, Juan Padilla, Richie "Kid" Howard, Bobby Woods, Alex Vargas, Hocine Khalfi and George Barnes. In today's era, this resume is enough for you to be in the Hall of Fame but no one is even trying to nominate him. Not even the supposedly experts are mentioning him today.
@antoniomosley9410
@antoniomosley9410 2 жыл бұрын
Which is why we need a criteria method on who be nominated into the hall of fame. Gatti is nominated but someone like Jack Blackburn isn't.
@raulratonmacias1377
@raulratonmacias1377 2 жыл бұрын
@@antoniomosley9410 I agree with you. I love Gatti and perhaps if we study his resume very carefully he might really deserve to be in the Hall, but there's also a lot of great boxers who had far superior resume than Gatti but still not in the Hall...some not even got nominations like Dupas, Blackburn, California Jackie Wilson, Bernard Docusen, Betulio Gonzalez, and so on. And not being a racist here but they should put more other races in their members in the judging panel. Most of the members of the IBHOF are only Americans and looks only on the American boxing point of view. If a boxer is not popular in America, it will be a long, hard road for him to get a nomination...let alone to be inducted in the Hall. Duilio Loui took 40 years to be inducted in the Hall. Lionel Rose until now is not yet there despite his great resume. Masao Ohba is not getting any attention. And so on.
@antoniomosley9410
@antoniomosley9410 2 жыл бұрын
@@raulratonmacias1377 I agree with the first part. But I don't considered the second part as racist, I think the proper word would be xenophobic. Having all American board doesn't equate to racism but to xenophobic since an American can be White American, African American, and Asian American and so on. And there's foreign fighters like Dick Tiger, Jose Napoles, Kid Gavilan, Jose Torres, Sam Langford and the great Randy Turpin and also the French Canadian Heavyweight champion of the world Tommy Burns. But having a more diverse board would stop the potential of biases. I'm not saying there's no biases but I don't think the word racism is the correct word describing the issue(which is real and serious). And adding a objective criteria who gets in, because you and agree there's biases and favoritism in the IBHOF, I have the IBHOF record book and for the voting there's 55 voters and there's a list of fighters from the old school era, modern era, trainers, and so on. They said they have no criteria on who get's in. Simply who's your favorite fighter, trainer etc etc I'm American by the way, and yes there's biases. For example the former WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder had special privilege by the WBC to fight guys who wasn't considered an threat to keep the belt from leaving American soil when AJ, Wlad, Whyte was gunning for Wilder.

@@antoniomosley9410 I'm sorry if I offend you or anyone in any way but that's not what I mean. I'm actually not talking about biasness and/or calling the Hall racist and intentionally picking only Americans because I know legends like Duran, Langford, Welsh, Harada are already on the Hall. My point is because most members of the IBHOF are Americans who are mostly familiar only on fighters who fought and/or became famous in American soil, boxers in the foreign soil who are not familiar with the American fans had a long, harder route to get recognition in the Hall. Like my example Duilio Loi who took 40 years to get in the Hall because he never fought in America despite beating legends like Carlos Ortiz twice. Or Lionel Rose who only had a few numbers of fights in American soil. Some members does not even know who they are or totally forgotten them. And honestly I don't blame them. No matter how great a boxer is, it's hard to pick someone you don't even know. Whether we admit it or not, popularity is the number 1 criteria in picking a boxer we will put in the Hall. But having a diverse board would broadens the attention and knowledge of other boxing greats who are not famous in America. It will create (at least) more chances for other greats to be recognized.
@antoniomosley9410
@antoniomosley9410 2 жыл бұрын
@@raulratonmacias1377 Offended? No friend. You didn't offend me or anyone who's American. I agree there's biases and I constantly argue that American Boxing is dead and UK, Asia and Eastern Europe are killing it right now. It's time for a overhaul in the IBHOF. Because like you said many great fighters who are non American are not getting recognized for their achievements and dedication to the sport. As a American boxing fan it saddens me that most American boxing fans don't understand Boxing was never a America Sport but a International Sport and during the Golden Era we had great fighters from all over the world fighting the best of the best and now only American fighters during the Golden Era are getting recognized.

@@myonlyaccount I agree. The only problem (which is not his fault) with Dupas is his lack of punching power. He had a very brittle hands so he's focusing more in precision than power. @@raulratonmacias1377 Could be. I just don't think you can train a guy do the the sort of things I see in this video or the types of things guys like Pep, Whitiker, Locche, etc. did in their day. Of course all of the trained skills need to be there, balance basic footwork, catching, parrying, slipping, weaving, turning, etc. Those are the basics.
