I think Fiennes gave us the best portrayal of Lawrence we're likely to see for awhile. After reading SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM and T.E. LAWRENCE: THE SELECTED LETTERS, I found that understanding him (Lawrence) was like chasing the horizon; he seems to retreat as you advance. Maddening and fascinating both at once.

Wjat lawrence did to middle east is One of the worst things to date, altho a fascinating man. He gave room for extremism and the arab islam to take full root over whole of middle east, all for oil. Way to go. The ottoman Didnt let the arabs out of their hejaz

It was a television movie in the early nineties and it's quite hard to get hold of now on DVD, I agree he has an amazing speaking voice, thanks for your comments:)

Blimey, the stuff you don't know about programmes made in your own country!! I had no idea that this was Fiennes first TV movie either. A very interesting find; I have no memory of it and this is my sort of thing.

If I could have chosen any well known actor to play the part of Lawrence, other than O'Toole, it would have been Fiennes. While the two men's styles of acting are hardly identical, there are still noticable similarities; they're both very Shakespearean, more oldschool, and both have blue eyes.

@GiantPetRat yes Fiennes was a good choice for the role, a character's style set by O'Toole in the original film but not necessarily like the real Lawrence himself.
