I would avoid conferences if I were an actor/actress. They are senseless. People ask the same questions over and over. It is no wonder Keira and Ralph look miserable. Also, if they had watched the film, it was obvious how the Duke thought. In the beginning, he stood at the window and watched Georgianna play with her friends in the courtyard as he hesitated to make a marriage proposal. At the end of the film, he stood at the window and watched the children play in the courtyard. He said something like, “They are so free.” That revealed his character. He didn’t want to marry but had to out of societal obligation. He knew when he married her she’d be imprisoned to obligation just as he was. Every time the Duke looked upon the Duchess, it was a reminder of his obligation - he could never love her. *That* is what Ralph saw in the character. He did it perfectly.

The Duchess & Ana Karenina are phenomenal movies, the duchess tore me inside - her acting is incredible in both movies. She’s my favorite actress by far.

My two cents: Ralph has always been gracious and even funny and warm in all of his other interviews I've seen. I think he's probably very bored with these pointless questions. You can tell Keira is as well. I was expecting more depth with the reporters' questions. The only question I thought had meaning was the definition of love question, which apparently Ralph wasn't too thrilled about, hahaha. That was a good one.

As artists, these individuals have my respect and appreciation for the wonderful work they've done. As people, they have my understanding that while great performers, they are not always performing (or shouldn't be expected to be) and will show their humanity and imperfections as we all do. In short, we can all be a bit of dick sometimes and I'd hate to judge someone that way lest I be judged in like manner. Just my opinion.

Why is it that they didn't incorporate Domonic Cooper more into the discussion his character is just as important to the film and he plays the role beautifully. People the stars aren't always the main attraction! I feel bad for him he looked so bored.

It has become a part of the job to sell their "acting" ie their film. I am not commenting whether this is good or bad, but it is a fact and they should do it with a little more grace.

It is not easy to come up with new and interesting questions about the same subject. I have witnessed press conferances in which every reporter had their own agenta. But the actor are there and have agreed to answer the questions asked. They shouldn't look like they are bored to death. Also I thought the question about 'definition' of love wasn't that bad. They asked for "definition of love" they have played or read... not their personal idea of love.

I guess its easy to have our comments and opinions and judge and criticize from the safety of these spaces even if we have probably never sat where these people do (at least I haven't, maybe others here have). All I can speak to is that I'm not certain of my graciousness when put on the spot. And this has never occurred in a room fool of press that can be as quickly friend as foe, taking any little thing said and twisting to whatever brings them the most profit.

RALPH FIENNES CAN REALLY HAVE A GOOD FUTURE AS AN ACTOR, BUT HE NEEDS TO HAVE A BREAKTHROUGH, LIKE WHAT RICHARD BURTON HAD, WHEN BURTON BECAME LIZ TAYLOR'S HUSBAND, THAT'S WHEN BURTON ROSE UP TO BECOME A MUCH GREATER ACTOR, AND HAD HIS GREATER FILMS.
