that is because it is a much older song, that eventually became an Appalachian folk song. It's been 'bluegrassified' here. I actually prefer the more traditional rendition of the song for that reason, there is a disconnect between the feel of the rhythm/embellishments, and the content of lyrics. This is pretty great though.

This video, along with the Patty Loveless/Ricky Scaggs video of Daniel Prayed, are just two good reasons why Ms. Loveless is THE best country singer of her generation ... or any generation. Luckily met Dr Ralph in Chicago at Fitzgerald's I was hollering songs for him to sing on stage he said that some of the songs I was requesting he hadn't sang since Carter died I felt horrible. I have been a fan of Ralph's for many years..been to many concerts, but I'll tell you..when you leave a concert of Ralph's, you just feel something special. Have traveled all over just to see him perform.I have tickets for his show in Phoenixville, PA. in Nov. Not only love his music, but he is a wonderful man. They just don't come any better than Ralph. I pray that his health improves and I am very sorry to hear that he is ailing. He has the class that his generation had. Gone now.

I came to Nashville from England, several hundred years after this song did. Grew up on the Stanleys on King. Spine-chillingly wonderful music. Patty carries on the tradition, knows it and will help keep it alive, while part of Nashville has lost its way. Mountain Soul indeed.
