that is because it is a much older song, that eventually became an Appalachian folk song. It's been 'bluegrassified' here. I actually prefer the more traditional rendition of the song for that reason, there is a disconnect between the feel of the rhythm/embellishments, and the content of lyrics. This is pretty great though.

This is the real music of America. Bluegrass elevates old time ballads that have existed for hundreds of years and added flesh and blood and bone to them. It gives me a natural high to listen to it every time.

Patty is here, paying the utmost respect to a true legend. I wonder if she knows that she's a legend herself. Damn, when she held that note, I almost fell out of my chair, and the look on Mr. Stanley's face was priceless. This video, along with the Patty Loveless/Ricky Scaggs video of Daniel Prayed, are just two good reasons why Ms. Loveless is THE best country singer of her generation ... or any generation. This lady is truly something special.

Love Patty Loveless and not a huge country fan…she is incredible singing Bluegrass. I don’t think she gets the recognition she definitely deserves. Have you seen her sing with Vince Gill Go Rest High on that Mountain (George Jones funeral)? Incredible and worth the watch.

+the32712 Steve Sparkman is the best at the Stanley style (next to Ralph of course). He even sounds like Ralph on back-up. Plays it just like Ralph on the back-up parts too, the way Ralph used to make the banjo "glide" throughout the song--Steve does that well here also!
