This *always* takes me back to the part of England I grew up in fifty years ago. So evocative, I can see it in front of me. Every damn' time!

The first time I heard this concerto was on Classical Radio. I know many of Vaughan Williams's pieces and though I hadn't heard this before I recognized that he was the composer. I just sounds like his music. It's beautiful.

I think driven by an inner reflection of a kinder time for Vaughn williams, perhaps remembering England before the Great War and WW2.

Nice! livelier than some, and then the final note played as if it's just another note, before I could even begin to long for it, like a final kiss goodbye that was a handshake instead.

Pretty sad that in the states, we never get to hear any of this music live, in concert. We are totally dependent on recording companies to hear these tunes.

I feel like the most likely place to hear this is with a college chamber orchestra and a faculty member or grad student as soloist. It doesn't get on the big city orchestra concerts, for sure.

Universities are generally going to be the best places to hear anything that isn't mainstream. There's much less politics, and there's no concerns about who's getting paid how much per year. Also, keep an eye on any universities that have annual (or biennual) concerto competitions - we can always dream that a woodwind will beat out the strings some day😅

But search on youtube and you will find something like 75 performances at many levels of expertise. And the audience at Yale certainly loved this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHKuiqaNoqlrj6s

why is the harmonic analysis in C major
@RalphDratman2 ай бұрын
It's in A minor which is the relative minor of C major. So you might say the key of the whole concerto is ambiguous, especially since (I've read) a lot of modes are in use here, so major/minor is just two of those modes. The first basic comment is that, like C major and A minor, the basic scale of the concerto has no sharps and no flats. So if you write a tune on just the white keys, it could be C major or A minor or one of the modes that is all on the white keys. Does that help?
