fell in love with this piece when Andre Previn recorded it along with the other symphonies. VW been my favourite composer ever since. Manze has a good feeling for this music it is beautifully performed

I am 82 years old and have been a classical music devotee for as long as I can remember. The Great VW has been one of those men that has provided me with the love, solace and beauty that can come from the human mind. This piece would defy the efforts of Will Shakespeare himself to describe.

The woodwind interlude from 4:36 to 5:43 is heavenly. That crosstalk between the oboe, the English horn and the flutes gets me every time.

The symphony is dedicated to Sibelius whom Vaughn Williams admired. I think he had been smitten by the Finn's final symphonies.

This symphony is based upon the alleluia motif. You can hear it throughout. The great cathartic outcry at the end of this movement, you can't miss it.
