Thank you for this and part 2. With only the two videos I've watched so far, it appears that you have a wealth of knowledge to share and your presentation is excellent.

Great informational video. I just recently acquired that same set from a friend at work that he purchased from an estate sale and found out he couldn’t use them. Had no idea what it was. Now I know. Thank you.

PS - I have a 1970's 3-head Craftsman tablesaw moulding head... and the Infamous ONE-blade Craftsman moulding head. Talk about unbalanced and scary noise.. but it actually did a pretty good job and was way less hassle than the 3-cutter version so I used it a lot.... both on my tablesaw and... (ready for this..) my RADIAL ARM SAW. All this stuff was inherited from my dad who passed away in '74. I figured out I could turn the head to 10-15 degrees compound and cut things like raised panels above the table. Hey nothing safer than a single cutter moulding head whizzing away at some oddball angle above the table on a rickety radial arm saw....

Tioga, I prefer the three blade head to the single as well. Of course I had a Woodmaser for many years with a single cutter that was wonderful at moldings. The real advantage to a single knife is that it is much easier to make a custom profile. But really, matching the three is not too tough.

Helloo!! Hope every ines doing great and staying safe.. I am still new at learning about milling lumber. My question is between soft woods and hard woods what are some best practices or saws to use when it comes to Dado or milling ship lap with out having to buy every other home depot tool?(also any one have any tips on how to keep corbals from cracking or spliting after cutting?) Thak you in advance and I really did enjoy this video....i took wood and other species of lumber for granted and now that i am consistently at my mill my mind is wide open..✌🏾☝🏾🖐🏾 peace to your journey

Tim, hardwood or softwood is about tree types not the actual density of the wood. Evergreens like pine, hemlock and such are softwoods. Deciduous trees that have leaves that drop in the fall are hardwoods. As to saws or any tools, buy the best you can afford or justify. trying to work with poor tools is never good. But do not overlook good used tools. if you do not know what to look for, folks in your local woodworking club can help.

Hi, just to confirm if that blade, can be work in the Delta 36-725 T2, please advise if anything. Nice video, thanks for it!
@Woodcademy2 жыл бұрын
Iv, as long as the arbor is long enough, it should work fine. Get the smaller diameter molding head since they need less horsepower. If the arbor can accept a full dado set, it can accept a molding head. You will need to make a new throat plate insert to match the molding head, but that is pretty easy. Check out Corobcutters.com, they have a video and plan that I created for them.

you have the one with the 3 cutters.... i've seen a single head with 1 cutter... which would you choose? seems to me the 3 set would end up with a nicer cut.
@Woodcademy5 жыл бұрын
Rapunzel eh?- No question, a three wing cutter will provide a smoother, cleaner cut than a single knife cutter at the same diameter and rpm. Each knife is doing 1/3 the work so feeding is easier, smaller cuts are being made with each knife, and they will stay sharper longer.

@@Woodcademy realistically, this is more a 'cause i want it' kind of purchase than a real practical NEED for it... now, maybe not a fair question, but - on a RAS or a TS?... which would be your preference? i have a RAS that only ever has dado blades in it, for cleaning up half laps and doing dados, so it could be set up more as a dedicated molding tool... i have two table saws, and usually one has dado blades in it, so it would be convenient, like i have one drill press permanently set with a mortising attachment.....
@Woodcademy5 жыл бұрын
@@rapunzeleh546since you have a good RAS that you are comfortable working with, I'd say go ahead and use it. Personally, I prefer the TS, less chance of kick back. And I would NEVER use the RAS in ripping mode.
@rapunzeleh5465 жыл бұрын
@@Woodcademy never use the ras in ripping mode anyways. last year i built an 8x8 table that has two table saws in opposing corners, plus the router in one side... so each saw has 5' to the left and 6 or so feet of run-off. i have a healthy respect for the RAS... i'm pretty strong for a woman but when that sucker starts up and you make a cut, it's got quite a bit of pull! i'll stick to the table saw for rips!
@rapunzeleh5465 жыл бұрын
@@Woodcademy one more thing if you don't mind - have you ever seen a set of cutters that will do a 'click lock' flooring type of cut? i've searched everywhere for router bits, but maybe a molding/shaper set?

Well, this cutter is very versatile of course. But it has a much higher safety risk factor than a saw blade. In many cases, there are no indications that a table saw has the possibility to run at the appropriate rpm. 3000 less or more is good for saw blades but too low for using the moulder head. High risk of kick back. Also this cutterhead has no chip limitors. Again high risk of kick back. Do not think you can compensate the low rpm with more cutters ( as 3 in this case). Cutting speed is the speed with witch the knife cuts trough the wood. So more knifes are not cutting faster, but make only smaller chips. I think there is a reason why they are no longer in production. This is also a low precision cutterhead, the precision in run out is about zero. Means only 1 cutter does the job while 3 are in the cutterhead. Please warn your followers concerning the risks using this cutting tool. But still have fun with woodworking.
