Hey AJ, glad to see your still enjoying your truck. I remember when you drove down to get your tune done. Please don't think im trolling your video, but I want to help you with your coolant issue. I own two of these engines, I have a brand new crate engine never touched, when I was looking over my crate engine, as new the EGR cooler ports your talking about actually have a yellow assembly grease to push the cooler into the block, there is actually a big glob of it around those ports, Now as on my engine when I bought my truck, I also noticed the same marks on my egr cooler, when the egr cooler gets really hot over and over, that grease starts melting, collecting dust, and looks like yours. If you pressure wash that area of your engine, youll never see that again. I have 134000 miles on my ecodiesel and its still not back. So now that's out of the way, when I hit 105000 miles, I consumed 5 gallons of OAT coolant. @103000 miles I finally saw the first drip and leak!! it took that long for me to find where all the coolant was going. I swear I look at everything every day under my hood, and I modify everything, and I never saw it. I thought it was from boil off, or evaporation, NO it was my radiator. Go look at your radiator with a powerful LED flashlight, and look at where your plastic tanks meet your aluminum core along the passenger side, first then driver side, you might see the seepage. I made a video about it, and youll see why you cannot see unless you remove the fan shroud. As a side note, GDE just released a new tune for Oil separator code tolerance reduction. Keep em coming. shawn.

Great review! You convinced me to go ahead with the upgrade. I live in Southern CA and have the same strict laws with emissions. So this is the best way I can fix the turbo lag issue, and not get into issues with the strict laws. Also my 2016 Limited will be used for towing my 25' Travel Trailer, so having the Engine braking upgrade is amazing!! Looking forward to your next video. I will likely post an install video on the ECM and a post review on the results.

I love the idea of a 6 cylinder diesel in a 1500 series truck, and also think many things about this Ram are very nice... especially like interior and ride. But after owning one Chrysler product some yrs ago, the long list of issues that infested it, the way the dealer treated me and bizarre warranty debate with them so many times, I am not rushed to ever buy anything from them again. When you talk about codes, sensors and, breakdowns....brings back too many memories. Heck, many used car lists and reliability-probs per 100 vehicle publications show that Chrysler-Fiat do not fair so well as others. Love your vid though, good review and nice to see proper ride along footage

I have the GDE hot tune in my 2.8 jeep liberty diesel and a custom transmission tune.... Keith at GDE is fantastic and actually knows what customer service is. and the tune works flawlessly i cant wait until he makes a tune for the new Duramax Chevy Colorado.

It would be nice if gde develops a tune for the dmax, but the injection is not bosch, not sure if the ecu on the dmax is bosch, if not, gde may not invest in extensive research on a different ecu. Plus, considering that the Colorado dmax is about the same price as the ram EcoDiesel, not sure how big of a hit that truck will be, considering its much smaller than ram and about the same price. I guess time will tell, I'm certain though that some competition in light diesel truck market would be more than welcomed.

+thermorex good points. but when i drive threw a major metropolitan area my GFs Tacoma or my diesel jeep is much nicer to drive than my silverado. I think the baby Dmax will be a huge hit. my buddy has the Ram EcoD and its a fantastic motor / truck combo (except for the bugs mopar has) but for me its just too massive for every day use.its the reason i'm dumping the silverado and going with something more useful.... and as for the same price comment......a loaded Colorado Diesel+ engin brake 40k+ fully loaded Ram 60k its apples and oranges

+Doug Walker I get the points, and agree, in tight streets or downtown driving, it's easier with a smaller vehicle. I also have a jeep crd and ram EcoDiesel, both with gde tune. Night and day difference in maneuverability, and not to say ram is bad, it steers pretty tight, but it's just much bigger. Price wise, again, time will tell. So far getting 20%off msrp of an EcoDiesel is quite common, hopefully Colorado dmax will have something close, that will make it a no-brainer. Anyways, good luck in getting a good deal and a gde tuned Colorado!

+thermorex but its all perspective nothing either of us have said is wrong its just prospective.... my buddy would never get the Colorado because of the room and his kids.... where as i don't have kids and the Coloradot would suite me better. yet people argue all the time over stupid little stuff like that. the only thing i really didn't like about the 3.0 ram was the oil.... 11 quarts OUCH that hurts the wallet. my 2.8 is only 7 with and oversize filter

great video! my 2020 3500 has now sat at the dealer for month and a half with a def pump failure, apparently 400 units across north america has same problem. they gave me a rental. considering doing a delete and be done with this problem.

Just a quick question, with the new tune, have you had any problems with camshaft pressures? I believe due to the design of the cylinder head it may experience high camshaft pressure, pushing the cam out of time not just with the valves but the gears itself, grinding them. Pressures may have to be carefully monitored to check for out of spec components, over-torqued bolts, turbo function, intake condition, etc.

I apologize for not responding sooner. no I have not had any issues however it does exist (based on the video at Mopar ecodiesel's KZbin channel). iam concerned about this. I still don't have a clear understanding how this hapoens. the gear should have a key installed preventing the gear from slipping. have a look at his video and you'll understand what I mean.

yes the issue has been fixed. my thermostat housing was leaking coolant. not a big deal. disregard the egr ports I show...That's a residue of grease. it's normal.

I will be getting this shortly in June when I'm in their area anyway, have only had my 16 for a month 1200 miles the lag from a stop sign is annoying to say the least what I have experienced is this (warm motor not cold) if I sit there for just a few seconds (complete stop) not an issue takes right off but say at a yield sign do just about a stop or slow rolling take off that's when I notice it had a 12 Ram before with the Hemi and 6 speed never an issue--- never drove a gasser with the 8 speed so nothing to compare too I'm just wondering if it more of a transmission issue than anything or a combination of the two be curious and anybody else has experienced the same thing

Timothy Anderson I’ve been dealing with that and a couple other issues on my 16’ Ram. GDE has a transmission tune as well that addresses that. So it’s a programming issue. Trying to have ram look it over. They are telling me that it’s intentionally designed to hesitate on acceleration like that. And since that’s the design they can’t do anything about it. Shouldn’t have to go third party to get the truck to operate like it should from factory.

with the stock tune I got 950km a tank. with the GDE tune I get 1030-1050km per tank. works out to be around 8.8l/100km. I have a second video that will answer everyone's elses questions with respect to warranty. o should have it posted soon.

This is not coolant, coolant will leave a white residue, what you are seeing is the grease from the O rings that are on your inlet and outlet when your eye gets hot it melts the the grease, and as far as oil we use rotella T6

yes. this is why i did this tune. some people on here think its normal to change out catalytic converters every 32,000km. my stock cat was cooked and had to be replaced with the stock tune. i was in a regen all the time. My def tank only lasted 6000km. everything has changed now with the GDE. it does disable your EGR but its well worth it for the consumer. Chrysler won't be fitting the bills in repairs after your warranty is up. I've already had my truck in 5 times in 3 months for def failure and a clogged cat.

Jim T My 2015 had the software update to comply with the EPA/Class Action Lawsuit back in June. On a hunting trip back in November, my friend who is a mechanic smelled a strong odor of coolant. He knew that I have the 100,000 maxcare extended warranty. The dealer didn’t have a loaner vehicle until mid December. I received a call from the service advisor to inform me that their unable to repair my EGR cooler because of no parts availability. It seems that FCA has no way of correcting the problem. I believe those fires happened after the software update from what owners have seen on the forums. I didn’t submit my paperwork yet for the $3,075 USD refund. I believe the other option is a buyback.

you can tow 10,000lbs with the 392 gear set. 355 gear set sits around 7000lb towing capacity. now for the bed with the air suspension, guys have put well over 1000lbs in the back and it's fine. apparently there is a message that appears in the driver's console when the bed has exceeded its weight capacity. someone on here will probably chime in and give you the exact weight limit of the bed. one thing to mention from my experience is that once you start putting heavy weight into the bed , you start to feel the truck bounce slightly when braking. it's nothing out of control but you can definetly feel the weight behind you.

+Andrey Happy get the scan tool and tune from GDE, its programmed just for your Jeep VIN number, first send GDE your factory software using the scan tool, then GDE will send you the tune and you can easily to upload to the jeep. I have a 2008 Jeep GC the GDE tune was the best investment for me. Also look at "jeepforum.com" for your 2009 GC lots of good info there, especially on the N23 recall for the 4x4 actuator.:(

No one has been able to answer me this. On the passenger side of your rear view mirror, there is a box attached to the windshield. What the heck is that for? I have a 2016 1500 Sport, and it's there. My previous truck, a 2014 1500 Outdoorsman, did not have it.

it is a sensor for your automatic high beams. the signal arm on your steering column can be pushed forward towards your windshield. when you push the arm, your centre gauge will say "automatic high beams on". that box controls it's sensitivity. as you can tell I have a parking tag in that area however I have it moved closer to the drivers side to avoid obstructing that sensor.

I wouldnt say it's underpowered. the stock tune has a lot of lag when accelerating. when your at a red red or if your on the highway and want to pass somebody, you have to give the truck a few seconds to pick up speed. iam not sure if it's turbo lag or tuning issues with respect to the overall drive train. all I can say is that GDE has almost eliminated the issue. the motor and tranny are capable of so much more and the GDE tune gives you that performance gain.

+David cordukes yes absolutely. I love my RAM but it's definitely not a work horse truck. This truck is for the people who want to tow there boats to the cottage without getting killed at the pumps. it's practical because of its 1/2 ton size and rides like a car. my buddies f250 is an example. the suspension is designed for work. not for family day fun! lf your after a work duty truck I would look elsewhere. the ecodiesel can handle small stuff (10,000 lbs is the rating for towing) but I really think the reliability (aggressive wear and tear) is the question I have with this truck and why iam suggesting for you to go with the next size up Cummins, power stroke, or even duramax. if I had to choose over the three, the Cummins is the way to go. power strokes are not very reliable (my opinion). don't know much about the duramax's to give you a proper answer. they were awesome at one point... I would even look at the new Titan diesel. that might be another option for you. but I am not a big believer in Nissan products ( I watched my brother in law go through hell with his VQ35 motor).

The Canadian Car Review Show if he buys one of the old 7.3 power strokes then he will definitely be fine. They are the most reliable diesels you can get. Just because the 6.0 had its issues doesn't mean power strokes are unreliable. A 7.3 power stroke will outlast a Cummins all day.

Its not turbo lag you feel . please dont say turbo lag, unless you install custom built turbos and work with them in your race car or something along those lines. The turbo is so small (in general) to have " a lot of turbo lag." It has more to do with the tune and its delivery of the power between the engine and transmission.

+Greenspot Construction I agree. It's a small turbo and we shouldn't be having this lagging feeling in our trucks. I mention it as turbo lag because that's the best way to describe how it feels. When I installed the bluespark it became even more evident. You can hear the turbo spooling and still there was no power. It was only after a few seconds when the power was delivered. I think your absolutely right though. Maybe it's the way the stock tune is designed to work with the tranny. Iam not a diesel mechanic nor a turbo specialist. I do know that smaller turbos should mean no turbo lag but in general that's what it feels like.

I wish it was an endorsement! I would have made a lot of money by now. I made this video to make consumers aware of the product. would you believe in this product if someone only talked about it for 5min? probably not since the brand is not well known and there is just not enough detail to justify spending the $$$. but if you watch a 45min video of somebody ranting on about issues with there vehicle and how the product has resolved the majority of the complaints, would you feel comfortable in making the investment? you probably could relate to some of my claims ...if you don't agree that's OK too. this is my experience and I can assure you that the stock tune is no where near comparable to this ecm flash. it honestly feels like I have a custom tune. sorry about the oil rant aswell. that's another topic for a later date.

You do realize that its not a cummins correct? you keep throwing the name around but cummins lost the contract for the smaller half ton diesel the motor they wanted to put in that truck is now in the titan xd

It seems the GDE is no longer available for the Ecodiesel. The EGR is the latest recall from FCA for engine fires. My 2015 Big Horn Ecodiesel is currently at the dealer. No parts available. This is another debacle for Ram Ecodiesel owners!

good video but crap that u dog the stock tune from ram. stock tune is emissions complient. and designed to last 200k miles. ANY tune will not be emissions complient...the dpf and scr can only convert so much emissions. the faster throttle response is from removing the smoke map. which means the dpf fills faster. there is no free lunch... plus u said it was emissions complient but yet u turned off the egr. that's an emission device!! do what u want but don't claim warranty. u mod it u fix it!

hi Andy. thanks for the response. i understand that this tune may sound like it prevents your vehicle from passing emissions but that statement is incorrect. there are many parameters changed in the stock tune that enable GDE to disable the EGR. you can check out there website for more details. I driven my ecodiesel with the stock tune for 18 months and have already clogged a catalytic converter. the stock tune is not adequate with respect to longevity of the emission controls unit. Chrysler Canada will not help you in any way when you address your concerns with this problem. how does a truck with only 32,000km need a new catalytic converter? iam also not the only one that has experienced this issue. there are many of us out there. just search on any of the ram forum sites and you'll see that this is becoming an occurrence with this engine. GDE also picked up on this issue and shows you pictures of what the exhaust system looks like. thats why i gambled and went with their product; if you were to put a stock truck beside mine, you would think that you have some serious engine failure. our next video demonstrate that. You are definitely taking a chance in voiding your warranty buying this product but good feedback and videos like this will maybe change peoples impression on the issue. lets face it, car manufactures are not angels...they have recalls and issues with there vehicles that they don't want to tell there consumers. look at what happened to VW today. Prime example. Chrysler is no better.

1st u say u have done so much research. Then use the correct terms. Cat converter is generic. All diesels since 2007 have had a dpf. This catches all the spot and ash. It's a filter! It's designed to plug. When it fills up it burns itself out,per design. 2nd is the scr system added to diesels in 2010. It uses the DEF to control NOX. 3rd is egr. Used since 04 to control NOX. So your statements r ignorant at best... u admit the tune disables the egr. Well egr is an emissions control device,only. Egr kills performance and econonny... but turning it off is illegal and does void your warranty. Do what u want with your truck. Just don't modify it then try to claim warranty!!!

Hmmm I am a development engineer fiat. one call from me and u never have warranty and will get a visit from the feds. all I asked was not to advocate claiming warranty on a modified truck.

+Andy Hass if you are a development engineer then maybe you should take this information back to your superiors and fix this problem. people that paid $60,000 for a truck which in fact pays for your salary are upset with this product. if you guys fixed this issue i wouldn't be in the position that iam. i like to see you guys at Chrysler change out your cats in your vehicles every 32,000km and pay for the full cost of an oem part and the $115/hr labour on the replacement. You keep using EPA emission regulations as an excuse. Chrysler isn't the only company out there manufacturing diesel engines that have to follow these regulations. go visit mopar ecodiesels page. you guys think that soot in the intake is acceptable? Iam a Mechanical Engineer and I can tell you that something isn't right here. honestly. help us out. FCA Canada is ignoring this issue.

I love the idea of a 6 cylinder diesel in a 1500 series truck, and also think many things about this Ram are very nice... especially like interior and ride. But after owning one Chrysler product some yrs ago, the long list of issues that infested it, the way the dealer treated me and bizarre warranty debate with them so many times, I am not rushed to ever buy anything from them again. When you talk about codes, sensors and, breakdowns....brings back too many memories. Heck, many used car lists and reliability-probs per 100 vehicle publications show that Chrysler-Fiat do not fair so well as others.
