Great video. I didn’t buy a Power Wagon as a toy. It’s the only truck I’ve ever owned that can haul a tractor or skid steer up a snowy mountain road. In the winter, it’s the only way to get hay out across snowy pastures, unless you use a tractor, which is fine if you have two hours to spare. When the Power Wagon is in 4 low, with front and rear axles locked, it IS a tractor, just a little faster!

I tow a 7150lb GVWR travel trailer (~950lb tongue weight) with my 2021 Power Wagon and I agree, it really doesn’t feel like it’s working hard. My trans temp stays rock solid at 168* regardless of grade or RPM. 6th gear is a 1:1 ratio in the 8HP75, feels great under load. I recently took the trailer up a mountain peaking at 14,000ft elevation and was surprised the truck just didn’t care. It has exceeded my expectations both towing and off-road. Thanks for the videos!

Awesome to hear the PW can tow at elevation as well! Like I mentioned in the video this exact power trains is rated for 17,000lbs on any other ram 2500 so this truck should be able to rock it's max towing capacity of 10,600 like a dream. but what I was surprised about is how solid the truck was under load. obviously, you can tell your towing but it was very comfortable and effortless to drive with a load!

Ya I can believe it! I'm now curious why the tow rating is so low. I mean are they that worried about the soft suspension 🤔. Because you put an extra 1500 lbs over the max tow rating of a ram 1500 and that thing would STRUGGLE. Whereas the PW seem to tow eith ease at their max tow rating and beyond

I have talked to Jeep engineers at MOAB about Jeep stuff, and in the same conversation I brought up the Power Wagon as I am looking to buy one. I mentioned the lack luster towing out of the PW for being a 2500. They said it was only due to the suspension. They said "unofficially" that RAM tested them far beyond that, and the truck did fine. The reason the suspension is the limiting factor is due to the manufacture unwilling to go any higher. Side no Bilstein wanted the PW to have a max tow rating of 8500 lbs so they could go all out on the offroad stuff. RAM then told them they were developing the TRX for that. I will be purchasing a 2023 PW if prices get back to normal. Cheers!

Lmao that made me laugh, I had two trucks at one point also and well one of them got sold! But ya I wanted to test this truck out because everyone complains about its towing numbers and I wanted to see if it was really that bad. truth is this truck can pull a load very well and I imagine if you have a "normal" 2500 it would tow even better. The 6.7 will run laps around this truck with a load but if you aren't towing crazy big numbers and can deal with some increased fuel mileage it does well! even in the shitty Canadian winters

We had a 2003 Dodge 3500 4x4 with the 5.7 that was the general company multipurpose truck. I had a random day where I needed to move a trailer and my service truck had to stay with our other mechanic. So I took it for that trip. The 6500 lb trailer I pulled taxed that engine so badly that a 5% grade took me from 60 down to 40 with my hazards on. No check engine lights, I even took it to the dealer because I couldn’t believe nothing was wrong with it. I’ve been looking at these wondering how they do, because after that experience with the 5.7 I was mortified by the things I hear from people giving it all the hype.

I couldn't justify the price of a three quarter ton compared to my half ton. I got the quad cab and the slightly longer box. 3.92 gear. Non e-torque 5.7. class 4 hitch and an intergrated trailer brake controller. I hauled an empty 7x14 enclosed cargo trailer from victoria all the way to saskatoon, loaded it up, which was probably between 6500, and 7500 pounds, and towed it back to the island. I didnt have a single issue. Going over train tracks and stuff kinda sucked. But i think it would suck for basically anything. Yeah the payload isnt great. Suspension is soft. But with weight distribution hitches, and timbrend bump stops, air bags, or upgrading your coils, you can help the ride feel better. Nothing can increase your payload sadly. But i do have a 97 ram 2500 with a 12 valve in it. And its got a payload of like 3500 pounds. So im covered either way. But im happy with my half ton. Does what it needs to.

Very unnerving in snow hardening to northern WI. I’ve had it 7 years and no rust yet. Gotta love the aluminum body. Do you think ram has figured out the rust issue at all? I am seriously considering purchasing a power wagon. After watching many videos like this one, everyone's concern is towing capacity... The motor, trans, and gears are all there right? Only thing lacking is suspension, right? To me a simple cheap fix is an aftermarket airbag set up. I did this on my ram 1500, and made the world of difference. When I put 60-70 lbs psi in the rear, and the truck hardly squats w 6000 lbs on it. Is this not possible with this unit? I've yet to see any video w someone adding this option on this truck. Curious why that is?

@@GettysGarage The counter weight (the rear of the 'Bobcat') is supposed to be on the tongue side not ramp side. It might not be a problem in this case but a larger unit could cause the trailer to sway going down the road. It's the weight distribution.

@@jeffsikula2920 That's what I figured when you mentioned it. luckily she towed well but I tried to make sure there was decent tongue weight. I've seen those demonstrational videos of trailers set up wrong and it's a scary thing lol. thank you for the info sir!

good video - now compare the power wagon to a cummins :O
@GettysGarage2 жыл бұрын
That's the plan! the cummins will wipe the floor with this truck when it comes to towing but I think it would still be a cool video!
@krisk55852 жыл бұрын
@@GettysGarage 100% agree but honestly the power wagon is so cool that its close... front and rear lockers... disconnecting sway bars.. built in winch... its so cool that it almost outweighs the benefit of all that power :)

powerwagon is straight axle and the rebel is IFS......ENOUGH SAID
@GettysGarage3 жыл бұрын
Exactly! just a stronger set up in general!
@godrick21492 жыл бұрын
The Rebel only has rear locking dif. And the PW is a Ram product. Not Chrysler. Little difference but one that needs to be made. Lol

If you want to tow on a regular basis . Dont buy a Power Wagon. There are better options.

if you buy a power wagon for towing you have bigger issues lol

Please people don’t buy a fucking power wagon for regular towing.

Could not agree more! this truck is not meant for daily towing. obviously it can tow but it's not set up for that. buy a normal 2500 if you need a work truck!
