They should put the SST low output in the Jeep Gladiator, but they won't, it makes too much sense, Stelantis doesn't care, they say you can have Fake Exhaust sound and Frame Shakers in your car but no V8. I have the 23 Gladiator Rubicon with the 3.6 and I think the oil temps & water temps are allowed to go too high.

I would love to see a 4.5L I-8 Turbo Super Hurricane engine making around 570 Horsepower, 600+ pound-feet of torque with 2 turbos, and can shut down a turbo while highway cruising with a light load to improve MPG's.

I love my 5.7 hemi. It may not top the charts in every metric but it gets the job done, sounds good doing it and rides decently in my Bighorn. My 3rd 5.7 and I have yet to want another drivetrain.

North America, DON'T make the mistake Europe made on going smaller with little turbocharged engines. They aren't more efficient, they aren't economical, keep the big old reliable lumps.

I would rather they kept the 6.4L HEMI in the HD trucks than bolt on one of the U.S.S Gerald R. Ford's anchors under the hood (a.k.a 6.7L Gasoline fueled Cummins). That thing it's way too heavy, not enough displacement and underpowered for gasoline engine duty. Stationary location ? SURE ! WHO CARES ? It's not like it's being moved around like a bob weight messing with a vehicle's dynamics. But installed under the hood of small-ish 3/4 and 1 ton truck ? Definitively too heavy, small at only 6.7L and underpowered. BUT back to the article's question title: Not a chance that "toy grade" engine would be used to power the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. For the same reasons as others and yourself stated and for the same reason Ford went thru the trouble of building the 7.3L gasoline V8 in their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks instead of dropping in them the "Eco OR Boost" 3.5L V6.

Wonders what the engineering decision was with deleting an oil dip stick other than we can save 0.50 on every truck . vehicle. It's not good for the owners if anything they should have both an electronic level indicator sensor plus dipstick to double check . Ridiculous why Ram? Chevy and Ford still give us the stick with all due respect 😄

I am so glad I can not afford a new truck. These twin turbo engines are just crap. Look at Toyota and thier crappy V6 twin turbo engines. Quit chasing Ford and thier legendary Ecoboost V6 and build a quality V8 truck. Besides Heavy Duty trucks need that V8. Want a turbo in a HD, get a diesel. 😊

Wait. They don't even have an oil dipstick?
@coachvonyo10 сағат бұрын
I guess we should monitor the battery/alternator voltage with an under hood clip on reader vs. a voltage gauge in cab? Maybe we should have a mercury thermometer under the hood to read water temps vs an in cab gauge? How about oil pressure monitored only by looking at an engine block screw in reader versus and in cab gauge? I can go on and on. The ability to easily check your oil level anytime without popping the hood from the comfort of the cab deviates from the norm, but if you stop and think about it, what's one more electrical system in a sea of them? I like it.

A 3.73 ratio is far better suited to towing than a 3.31ratio. additionally, tire diameter plays into this. If you have larger diameter tires than factory equipped, that effects towing ability. Larger diameter tire means less towing ability.

Sure the Hurricane engine has some good numbers on paper, but nobody ever tells us AT WHAT RPM they are producing those numbers. I couldn't find any RPMs listed for the HP and torque numbers that Ram provides. I have a sneaking suspicion that you have to rev the devil out of that motor to achieve those figures, and that's NOT what I want to do in a HD truck. There is no replacement for displacement.
@TheGettyAdventures10 сағат бұрын
I actually think I read it makes like 90% of torque by 2,300 RPM but I agree with what you are saying, on paper numbers don't always translate to real power underload.

I bought a 2015 GMC Sierra SLE 5.3 used and 9 months later, cylinder 7 exhaust lifter collapsed. I change the oil every three thousand miles regardless. Previous two owners, I'm not sure if they kept up with oil changes as I found sludge on the rods and VLOM. I am currently replacing all eight AFM lifters and will be having the computer reprogrammed to delete the AFM. Later after I recoup my losses on this engine, I will do a full delete and go with a stage 1 cam with regular lifters. Truck has little over 96,000 miles.

I’ve got a 2023 Power Wagon like you. Love it. Yeah I don’t want any plasma coated cylinders for my vehicles lol. My snowmobiles and ATVs have them but I’m not trying to get hundreds of thousands of miles out of them. Like you said they’re cheaper, lighter and dissipate heat better but I don’t think it’s what you want for long-term durability. Any dirt gets down there and you scratch through the coating you’re done.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Just look at Ford, you don't see them putting their 3.5 eco Boost into the heavy duty line up. For I believe all the same reasons you have mentioned.
@TheGettyAdventures10 сағат бұрын
It's a very nice comparison because the HO Ecoboost is putting down more power then the 7.3L godzilla, yet we don't see the ecoboost in the superduty trucks.
@patriot552611 сағат бұрын
There’s an old saying that you have to dance with the girl that brought you to the prom. The 6.4 Hemi has given Ram a great reputation for capable and reliable heavy duty trucks. It took a long time to gain that reputation, and it would silly, in my opinion, to stop producing it. Why kill the Golden Goose?
@TheGettyAdventures10 сағат бұрын
I don't think Fiat felt like it was worth re-investing into the Hemi platform most likely forced by government regulations as well. nothing wrong with the 6.4L hemi, it has its issues but overall a nice engine.
