RAM 2500 Shift Override

Ever Ram owner needs to know how to do this. How to override the shift lever when the truck has no power and is locked in Park and has to be towed (flat bed). With this override, the truck can also be started in neutral. One of those things you need to know you can do, hopefully you'll never need to use it.

Great info. I just got towed 2 days ago with a flatbed due to a bad alternator. Luckily I had my booster battery to start the truck up so this scenario was not needed but now I know in case the truck cant start.

You can actually tow this vehicle flat if you put the transfer case in neutral... it can also actually be towed behind an rv the same Wayne it will not crew up the transmission... you do need electricity if it's a shift knob tho

Thanks, Flatbed is the best method, flat tow Ok, distance and mph limited on some. 2 2 vs 4 x4, manual tranny etc...

You can also have the drive line pulled and tow it from the front

You can tow it with out a flatbed it does not need a flatbed drop the driveshaft

I recently broke my shift column could i do this trick and still drive it? If you dont understand, i pulled that shifter off it wouldnt pull down and i put too much pressure and it just snapped off

Well Marion, hes a question for ya. How do you shut the truck off if the shifter says it isn't going into park. I have same year as yours, 3500, and shes been running in my driveway for 5 hours now cause when i put it into park it says vehicle not in park and with the push button it wont shut off. I've phoned dealerships and have been told to pull fuses for the fuel pump, and they finally said pull battery cables...i was very hesitant but did it but after 5 minutes running on the alternator i couldn't handle it anymore and hooked them back up.

Fuse 70 will probably shut the lift pump off in the tank. I'll dig into this. I used to unplug my fuel pump also.

@@MarionBlair The fellas on cumminsforum.com helped me out. Pull the fuse but the suction of the engine running was still bringing in the fuel. It was suggested to also crack a fuel filter drain and she died in less than 10 seconds. Thanks for the reply

@@MarionBlair Truck was parked on the lawn and i never put a drain hose on the front...i did reach for it though haha but figured a bucket under the rear would catch more. Thanks again Marion, keep up the videos

I have 2018 my ram has key, not push start. I believe I can turn key and shift to neutral. Also what is the neutral button under the 4wd dial? Is that for flat towing?

If it's a manual transfer case you can but electronic, you won't be able too.

then whats the "neutral" pushbutton under the 4wd selector knob for, if not for towing ? pto only option or ? i ask additionally, as my truck has twin 220 amp alternators for a total of 440 amps output, plus 5 option ("aux") buttons below the trailer tow set.. for relays.. i have no pto, but with the h.o. alternators, it anticipates something like a snowplow or something...

If you have the electronic shift selector and you can get it in neutral and the truck in park. You should be able to tow the vehicle in a forward direction only with all 4 wheels on the ground without damage. If you try to reverse you will damage the transfer case. But I agree with you, it can be towed under the above circumstances. In emergency situation which is what I was trying to address in the video, this may be difficult to set up with the engine and electronics working.
