Yes, Toyota is using the CRC. I recently purchased a Sequoia, and the previous owners kept meticulous records. The dealer did, in fact, treat the frame twice with CRC. And the frame is immaculate! If Toyota is using it, that's good enough for me. Thanks for the video.

I didn't go with the cosmoline, but did my truck with fluid film. I tried acf 50, foolishly believing it would be less messy, even it it wasnt as sticky. Negative. It was a hella messy. Lots of drips. I've used acf 50 before and if you do metal with a hvlp sprayer to get a really light coat, sure that works. Impossible to see if you've gotten a light but not too light coating on the truck. Drips everywhere. I don't live in a "rust belt" state, but it snows here and they salt things, but long and short, the oil undercoating is super simple. A little messy, and the overspray is annoying, but if you drape the truck and walls, its very simple. Certainly not worth the $400 I was quoted at local shops. Its a $150 job to do yourself even if you have to buy the woolwax spray kit. I would do the low contact areas and cavities with cosmoline / crc like you had if I did it over, and just woolwax the high contact areas like lower control arms.

CRC 6026, Marine heavy duty corrosion inhibitor, and sp-400 are all the same product. 6026 and Marine HD are more viscous/tacky when "dry" compared to sp-400 though. PB Blaster Surface Shield is just as good (my personal fav). Can sucks, but is thicker than 6026 and Marine HD. Does attract a little more stuff though. "Dries" harder. LP3 and WD40 Specialist corrosion inhibitor are also good alternatives. All named have equal water and salt protection.
@simd510Ай бұрын
I used surface shield on my last truck. I live off a dirt road and the entire frame got coated in a thick layer of dirt. I left it like that the entire time I kept the truck. I just traded it in and need to undercoat but don't know if I should go cosmoline because it dries and won't attract a layer of dust.

Repair geek said so about cosmoline "It creeps until it's dry. Once it dries that's it. So if cosmoline does not fully penetrate pinchwelds or bedsides before it dries you're screwed. Any additional products just build up on top of the layer that is dry.. Products that stay wet will continue to creep and self heal 6 months or even years later, cosmoline won't." So it will probably simple fall of at top of paint. Please let us know in 1 year.

Toyota frames were built by a company called Dana in the USA. Dana skipped the process where they should have cleaned the oil off that was used as part of the frame forming process. The frames were then painted and because they omitted the cleaning step before painting ,the frames rusted prematurely as the paint failed. Toyota sued Dana and Dana gave Toyota 25 million to correct the problem of frames rusting. Currently have 2 replacement frames in tacomas owned by family members. On my new 2020 Tacoma , at the time I used 12 cans of CPC 6026 right after leaving dealer with new truck. I followed up with 3 gallons of fluid film. I'll continue with a new product called surface shield going forward. My opinion is that a product that "creeps" is needed to get to the places you can't reach....and apply yearly or so. 6026 is Cosmoline which is great,but doesn't move enough. East coast of Canada here.

I sprayed it inside the frame and could actually see it drifting out of the holes all the way on the other side like 6 feet away. I imagine it is coating the inside of the frame as it drifts along the length. A spray straw would definitely help, but it does not seem like a showstopper at all. I ordered another six cans and I will let my mechanic finish the job because he can put it up on the lift and be much more thorough. This is ineffective if it is sprayed on already rusted metal. It won't form a barrier and prevent further rust. After a winter the rusted area is dry with no evidence of a waxy coating. It works on clean metal and painted metal.

I think if you’re just highway driving that might work for a bit, but where I go it’ll be a mess real quick. The rocks will kick up and will destroy it. That’s what’s great about crc. It cures to a tacky coating. Not like a hard coating that can chip off.
