Күн бұрын

An evening with Ram Dass where he discusses importance of intuition, incorporating darkness and light, and ultimately embracing one's humanity.
Recorded on August 7, 1982 in Pacific Grove, California.
__________________
In this lecture, Ram Dass discusses the changes he's experienced in himself over the many years that he's been teaching. He admits to having been caught in the separateness of acting as a 'holy man', trying to live through other's expectations. He found that eventually, he had to acknowledge the part of him that was using the spiritual path to avoid the things he couldn't face in himself, and that the game wasn't about getting high, but getting free. This requires embracing all of life, incorporating the darkness into the light. The human heart is the doorway to intuition and our actions must come from the blending of humanity and divinity. Until we fully accept our humanity, our intuition will lack harmony. When we embrace our uniqueness and accept responsibility for the creation of who we are, we begin to let go of the forms that keep us separate. If we can identify with our inner being then we can open to a much broader appreciation of the outer world in which we must live. We can learn to operate within our roles, without getting lost in them. Who we think we are disappears, and we find action in that previously confined energy.

That was an incredible talk, and I enjoyed it all the way through and laughed a lot! But when Ram Dass started singing at the end- I had a shift. First it made me smile really big, then when the folks in the audience sang on their own at the very end in such beautiful harmony… I started crying. It was so beautiful and I FELT the oneness in that moment. Thank you RD for these constant and wonderful reminders of who I am. 🙏💗

The truth is that man is one individual with two aspects, just like one line with two ends. If you look at the ends, it is two. If you look at the line, it is one. One end of the line is limited, the other end of the line is unlimited. One end is man, the other end is God. People have fought in vain about the names and lives of their saviors, and have named their religions after the name of their savior, instead of uniting with each other in the truth that is taught. Love is the essence of all religion, mysticism, and philosophy, and for the one who has learned this, love fulfills the purpose of religion, ethics, and philosophy, and the lover is raised above all diversities of faiths and beliefs. All the great persons of the world, whatever had been their mission in life, proved their greatness by this one quality: endurance. The enduring personality is like a ship that can stand storms and winds under all conditions, the ship that saves itself and others. Such blessed personalities, showing the strength of God have been called the saviors of humanity. Spiritual progress is the changing of the point of view. Every passion, every emotion, has its effect upon the mind. Every change of mind, however slight, has its effect upon the body. True power is not in trying to gain power; true power is in becoming power. But how to become power? It requires an attempt to make a definite change in oneself, and that change is a kind of struggle with one's false self. He who sincerely seeks his real purpose in life is himself sought by that purpose. As he concentrates on that search a light begins to clear his confusion, call it revelation, call it inspiration, call it what you will. It is mistrust that misleads. Sincerity leads straight to the goal. Your ❤is not living until it has experienced pain... the pain of love breaks open the 💔 ~ even if it is as hard as a rock. As one can see when the eyes are open, so one can understand when the heart is open. God breaks the heart again and again and again until it stays open. Love manifests towards those whom we like as love; towards those whom we do not like as forgiveness. The more sincerity is developed, the greater share of truth you will have. And however much sincerity a person may have, there is always a gap to fill, for we live in the midst of falsehood, and we are always apt to be carried away by this world of falsehood. Therefore we must never think we are sincere enough, and we must always be on our guard against influences which may carry us away from that sincerity which is the bridge between ourselves and our ideal. No study, no meditation is more helpful than sincerity itself. Each human personality is like a piece of music, having an individual tone and a rhythm of its own. The whole of life is as music and in order to study life we must study it as music. It is not only study, it is also practice which makes man perfect. If someone tells me that a certain person is miserable or wretched or distressed, my answer will be that he is out of tune. Sound is the force of creation, the true whole. Music then, becomes the voice of the great cosmic oneness and therefore the optimal way to reach this final state of healing. Very often in everyday life one sees that by losing one's temper with someone who has already lost his, one does not gain anything but only sets out upon the path of stupidity. He who has enough self-control to stand firm at the moment when the other person is in a temper, wins in the end. It is not he who has spoken a hundred words aloud who has won; it is he who has perhaps spoken only one word. ~ Hazrat Inayat Khan Is 🥔 🙏 Namaste'

Chuck, I really love this! I had to stop the video to get a really good read of it and it is full of wisdom for sure! On the part about power; the phrase that came to my mind when reading that about how to his power was, “in letting go! You gain power by letting go, not trying to gain it.” Just a thought I had…

Thank you for your astute observation, and for expressing your gratitude@@Dantelikesit2 🙏🏻 Namaste' "The lust for power is not rooted in strength but in weakness. As long as anyone believes that his ideal and purpose is outside him, that it is above the clouds, in the past or in the future, he will go outside himself and seek fulfillment where it cannot be found. He will look for solutions and answers at every point except where they can be found - in himself. A society whose principles are acquisition, profit, and property produces a social character oriented around having, and once the dominant pattern is established, nobody wants to be an outsider, or indeed an outcast; in order to avoid this risk everybody adapts to the majority, who have in common only their mutual antagonism. The fact that millions of people share the same vices does not make these vices virtues, the fact that they share so many errors does not make the errors to be truths, and the fact that millions of people share the same form of mental pathology does not make these people sane. Many psychiatrists and psychologists refuse to entertain the idea that society as a whole may be lacking in sanity. They hold that the problem of mental health in a society is only that of the number of 'unadjusted' individuals, and not of a possible un-adjustment of the culture itself." Erich Fromm "Ego is a structure that is erected by a neurotic individual who is a member of a neurotic culture against the facts of the matter. And culture, which we put on like an overcoat, is the collectivized consensus about what sort of neurotic behaviors are acceptable. If the ego is not regularly and repeatedly dissolved in the unbounded hyperspace of the Transcendent Other, there will always be slow drift away from the sense of self as part of nature’s larger whole. The ultimate consequence of this drift is the fatal ennui that now permeates Western Civilization. No culture on earth is as heavily narcotized as the industrial West in terms of being inured to the consequences of maladaptive behavior. We pursue a business-as-usual attitude in a surreal atmosphere of mounting crises and irreconcilable contradictions. The pro-psychedelic plant position is clearly an anti-drugs position. Drug dependencies are the result of habitual, unexamined, and obsessive behavior; these are precisely the tendencies in our psychological makeup that the psychedelics mitigate. The plant hallucinogens dissolve habits and hold motivations up to inspection by a wider, less egocentric, and more grounded point of view within the individual. Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. The problem is that tunnel is in the back of your mind. And if you don’t go to the back side of your mind you will never see the light at the end of the tunnel. And once you see it, then the task becomes to empower it in yourself and other people. Spread it as a reality. God did not retire to the seventh heaven, God is some kind of lost continent IN the human mind. Patanjali specifically says that there are three paths to the goal of yoga. And they are, control of the breath, control of posture, and light-filled herbs. It says it right there. Stanza 6 of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The psychedelic experience is the beginning of the spiritual path. That's why it's not important that yogis claim that they can deliver you the psychedelic experience, because it begins with the psychedelic experience, and then you go from there. Apparently, in the Avesta classical period no one would have dreamed of having a spiritual experience without resorting to drugs. Psychedelic drugs, especially psilocybin, allow a searchlight to be thrown on these deeper levels of the psyche, as Jung correctly stated. But it is not a museum of archetypes or psychic constructs, as he seemed to assume. It is a frontier of wholeness into which any person, so motivated and so courageous as to wish to do it, can go and leave the mundane plane far behind. Psychedelics can carry you farther and faster than most people care to go. Once you get to psychedelics, it's no longer a matter of seeking the answer, you have found the answer. Now the issue changes dramatically, you must face the answer." ~ Terence McKenna “Psychedelics helped me to escape.. albeit momentarily.. from the prison of my mind. It over-rode the habit patterns of thought and I was able to taste innocence again. Looking at sensations freshly without the conceptual overly was very profound.” ~ ram dass "No wonder psychedelics are threatening to an authoritarian religious hierarchy. You don’t need faith to benefit from a psychedelic experience, let alone a priest or even a shaman to interpret it. What you need is courage-courage to drink the brew, eat the mushroom, or whatever it is, and then to pay attention, and make of it what you will. Suddenly, the tools for direct contact with the transcendent other (whether you call it God or something else) is taken from the hands of an anointed elite and given to the individual seeker. Nobody can have your psychedelic experience for you; you just have to screw your courage up and raise the cup to your lips or smoke the pipe or whatever it is and face what's in there. I get frustrated with people who say that a drug experience can have no spiritual validity. I'm here to tell you that all experience is a drug experience. We're all on drugs all the time, largely because we are MADE of drugs Think for yourself, and believe in yourself. Keep your skeptical antennae tuned in and in good working order at all times. We are free to develop our own hypotheses, which should be based in available evidence. When it comes to faith, have faith in yourself. And don't forget to love, laugh, be kind to each other. Don't take things so seriously, especially yourself. If the universe is a cosmic joke, remember to giggle. And remember to be astonished." ~ Dennis McKenna "Only you yourself can be your liberator!" ~ Wilhelm Reich

Not everything in the bible is true. All religions have some truths but also alot of lies. It’s like a puzzle you have to piece together, and it takes time and experience. You can’t force it. Just live. Trust yourself. Keep searching, keep asking. And when you don‘t find an answer, the answer will be within yourself. I wish you good luck on your journey.

As much as I’m thankful for Ram Dass my Misophonia is triggered by the constant tongue smacking sounds amplified by the microphone. To the point where I need to just shut the video off….

Ngo Dinh Diem die because desires. Nguyen Van Thieu got a blame for stolen but he didn't because hatred. They wanted to say they are the best , they don't want people say their false. They blame the false on each other because jealousy.
