It brings a tear to my eye.. you can tell he's finding it hard to convey his message using language, but in his eyes you can see he knows exactly what he wants too say. I just wanted to reach out and hug the man for sharing his perceptions with the world. He is providing a great service to us all.

I'm 45 and just discovered Ram recently . I am so grateful for the light that is inside of him transcending outwardly being able to use his space suit organic flesh to touch the tips of our light to brighten it even more with energy . Thank's Ram !!!!!!

As I understand it, the soul merges into the oneness that it was never separated from, but also this God-consciousness still retains its memories of the individual..

Hope is a shallow emotion! There is an awareness beyond hope, fear, love and all other ego projections. Then there is a Divine Conscoiusness and the awareness of it within us is the only real goal. Only it will suffice. Only it is required.

I am happy to report that my experience, having been brought up in the Christian traditions, was impacted mightily in the early 70's by Ram Dass. Prior to knowing about him, I had had that "deeper experience" and was terribly disillusioned with the "western materialistic view". I read his book "Be Here Now" that helped clarify so much of what was happening in my life and the world. I had the experience of hearing him lecture in Los Angeles in 1973. He helped me beyond words!

APHASIA it is called; it can occur after or can be caused by a stroke. Inside your thoughts you know exactely what you want to say but the words don't come flowing out no more. Very tough to learn to live with for some people. But in the end, all we are is Pure Silence, pure awareness. Many years ago Ram Dass became my teacher. Hour after hour. I listen to what he had to say. He gave me a new way of life, a new way this to see things, a new way to think. I was stunned when I heard about a stroke. And I thought man I'm gone missing him. I did. Here recently, I've returned, thinking that maybe he has lost something. But after listening to this man's words. I don't believe he's lost anything. As a matter of fact I think he's clear today than ever before. This man is as close to God as a human being can come [in my estimation] Instead of gone gone gone I feel /believe we've gone beyond beyond maybe even beyond, beyond beyond. D

I have searched my innerself on my own without help or knowledge of others until i was about 23 years old. (That was my choice because of contamination and now am searching for connection to what i know) and i understand what is being spoken. I did not know of Ram Dass until today and its comforting to know that my thoughts are much of the same. Time to wake up !

I haven't finished watching "Ram Dass: Fierce Grace", so I cannot tell if this interview is from that documentary, but it's inspiring to see him bring such intelligence to bear in translating the post-stroke mind's ideations into words. Acts of translation are endlessly fascinating, and his words are so profound - such an interesting vid for both reasons.

@bevandsuits I understand that. My grandfather has suffered three strokes and still retains logical thought and memory. My question revolves around the reality of what he's saying. Are his perceptions of the universe and God inspired by psychoactive hallucination or did he logically deduct his ideas and test them? I know I have had similar concepts under the influence of marijuana and cant help but think that my psychoactive fantasy however detailed and logical in MY mind... is just that. :(

I'm just learning about this man. From what I can see, he is no different than anyone else who has been "taught" these things and led to believe them deeply enough to share them with others while giving credit to some dead person who had a good idea once which is no longer applicable to our times....(e.g. Jesus). I don't believe in people who follow people only people who follow the inner voice and tell others to do the same. Plus, he IS talking about all this speculatively as an opinion.

If by "nihilist" you mean to suggest that I don't believe in an afterlife, or eternal life, you're mistaken. When I say that I don't believe in an immortal soul that survives death, most people assume that I don't believe in life after death. The concepts of "soul" and "life after death" are erroneously conflated. Life after death does not depend on the existence of a soul. The concept of the soul was invented to give believers a sense of security and continuity. The mind clings to that idea.

Ah ok, I get what he means now about shared awareness. But that is different, and cannot be correlated in describing another human as 5000 miles away - as he did in another video - because there are rules to our creation up here above God's realm (the inner core), and those rules say that if we are separated by space and time then we are separated by space and time, there's no cheating. Not yet anyway.

In a word, "memory." Without memory there is no sense of "I." There are as many separate "I"s as there are thoughts and feelings. each one calling itself "me." As for consciousness, that is a dimension of the universe. It doesn't belong to you. You are attached to the belief that you are a soul for selfish reasons. You need to get beyond that or you will never find enlightenment.

he took great interest in Meher Baba, but everyone has their specific guru, and for Ram Dass it was Neem Karoli Baba, who in my opinion, after studying about him and reading the 1000s of stories about him, was an incarnation of Hanuman. A completely perfected being.

It's a shame this man's deep perception of the human condition has turned to fundamentalist conceptions of a 'soul' or eternal life, of which we have less than no proof.
