People don't realize the importance of this right here. Monty recorded before ska happened. The Jamaican RnB, Ernest was a master during the ska and rocksteady periods and sly and robbie changed the sound of reggae. These are the originators all together in one room.

I don't know how they do it. Sly & Robbie are some of the world's greatest contemporary musicians. They must love music so much because they play, and play, and play. They will explore every genre and do not put themselves above anything. If I were a musician I would be so honored to play with them. I don't know the full list of musicians who have but it must be the longest list out there.

I've had the good fortune to see the "Immortal" Ernest Ranglin and Sly & Robbie live on more than one occasion, but a live performance by Monty Alexander has always eluded me so thanks GB for this upload - truly appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed! BTW a visit to Blue Note Tokyo is on my "Bucket List".

How absolutely addictive. All four masters of their craft and what amazing collaboration? Never heard of Monty but looked him up and he has an outstanding repertoire and he is a "yard man" and fellow Kingstonian! Music to my ears, must see Ernest on his farewell performance at the barbican later this month. These men have done so much in their lifetime to bring joy and unity through their music. BIG UP and NUFF RESPECT!

I can’t understand what Sly is up to on the drums. Is anyone else having trouble with his drumming?
@tabou15 жыл бұрын
making sure people can dance with a steady beat
@evensteve2845 жыл бұрын
The only thing steady about the beat is the kick. I’m talking about the groove that Sly goes into at 1:30, 2:27, 3:40, 5:40, 6:40, and 7:20. These times aren’t exact BTW. Sometimes, when Sly comes out of this groove and back into the regular groove, Robbie and Sly have trouble locking back up. It’s subtle, but I’m a bass player (40 plus years), I can hear it. And the triplet groove Sly goes into at 5:07 throws Monty off in the middle of his piano solo. Monty is forced to follow Sly, but maybe I’m wrong about that. Sly goes into a third groove at 8:30 which works great. Thanks for posting this.
