A very interesting Voice and person, he was a Excellent Tenor in Wagner and Verdi in which I saw sing many times, he was to my mind perhaps only surpassed as Tristan by Melchior, and in Walkure is Siegmund was exciting and extremely manly and virile, he looked the part in all roles, a very good looking man, much reminded me of the Other Chilean Tenor Renato Zanelli and his Brother Carlo Morelli the famous Baritone all three had Beautiful resonant Powerful voices, Chile can be proud to have had such Voices. He was liked where ever he appeared and the audiences applauded with total sincerity because he had a voice of Gold with a Chest of Bronze, what an actor he was. His Otello was always beautifully sung, in later years it became a strain, his voice was always a Baritone like Melchior who could even be mistaken for a Bass in later years, but unlike Melchior his upper Register was not as Capable, unlike Melchior, he had no High C but there again name another Heldentenor with an High C, but Vinay was a Phenomenally strong Personality on the stage, he had that "WoW" Factor especially in Pagliacci I heard him sing this Role on five occasions and when he was about to do in Nedda His expression was Electric with Personality and passion. So too as a Baritone he was alternating as Tenor and Bariton quite Regularly in the late fifties and I saw His Telramund and Wolfram, what a voice, no Baritone that I heard since those days got close to this man of enormous and generous Talent .
