RAM ProMaster / Hymer Aktiv - Stereo Speaker Upgrade

Upgrading the door mounted speakers in a RAM Promaster/Hymer Aktiv from the OEM paper cone one-ways to an inexpensive set of polypropylene 4-way speakers.

I bought a 2018 promaster with blown speakers. Needed recommendations on replacements. Those cheap factory paper cones ain't worth a tinkers damn. Word Up!

I think the factory Speaker pound pretty hard i drive for Amazon and we have big Pro Masters with the same speakers you pulled when I have them turned up the bass can be heard from a great distance away.

You may have an upgraded trim level with better speakers then. The stock speakers in these rigs don’t have the physical capability (throw) to move enough air for the kind of bass you’re talking about. You might be able to crank it and hear it outside, but it’s also going to distort badly. Volume doesn’t equal audio quality anyway. :)

Maury, Glad to have found your (this) speaker upgrades for our Aktivs! I was betting that no one has posted anything for the Promaster yet, and pleasantly surprised that you've made one and happened to be for our Aktiv's Sony too. I hear a distinct bass on your sound check. Didi they improved the low freqs too? The stock sound I have right now from he Sony and factory speakers is "unsat". Im thinking of incorporating an amp and maybe a small subwoofer, that I don't know yet where to hide :D. Thanks!

I’ve casually looked around for where a subwoofer could be placed easily. It would be extremely valuable, since all of the speakers in the van are small and short throw. I don’t listen to it in the van a LOT though, so it’s further down on my list. Lol. The door speakers definitely made a difference though, and would have been even better if I had invested in better speakers but I tempered it due to how little I use it. :)

Great video, Thanks! The stock speaker was 4 ohms, were the replacements a more typical 8 ohm? Any concern if there was a mismatch? Thank you.

The head unit had been replaced by the upfitter with a newer Sony AX100, so it was already sort of mismatched. :) But car audio systems aren’t as sensitive to impedance as home audio equipment, either, and most are fine with either 4 or 8 ohm speakers. Lower impedance speakers just allow them to pull more out of the lower voltage amp more easily. So my purchase didn’t use that as a criteria. I suppose if I were building a 1500w pro system I would have had to make more deliberate selections, but I barely even turn the radio on. Lol

How are speakers over bed and dining table installed by Hymer? Are they good?

I would say, don't set your expectations too high - they are ok, but not outstanding. Also, they have very small enclosures to protect them (they back into the cabinet) so that limits the amount of air they can move. There are owners looking into adding a subwoofer to the system, and I think that would be a huge improvement.

Did installing these disable the terrible sounding tweeters on the front pillars? Is there a crossover somewhere under the dash? If there is a crossover, I'm concerned that the 6.5" units wouldn't receive the full range of audio.

I didn’t do any rewiring, just a replacement - so my tweets are still functional. I don’t listen to a lot of music in the van to be honest, so it doesn’t get to me like it normally would. :)
