RAM ProMaster UConnect Stereo and Dash Clipboard Removal

The clipboard on the top of the ProMaster dash is a kind of awkward piece that looks like it should just open up easily, but it doesn't. Here's how to remove the factory UConnect stereo and clipboard panel for easy access to the back side of the dashboard, or aftermarket replacement.

Great installation idea - I was just looking to buy that same radio and install in my ProMaster too. Did you just place the head unit in there or was it mounted somehow but just fell once the clipboard cover was lifted up? Also, what antenna did you go with and how/where did you mount it? Maybe you should post a video for that too. :D

Just discovered your channel. Really helpful. Have you ever tried to take off the lower center shroud that goes down to the useless floor level cup holders? I’m trying to figure out how to move the cup holders up and fasten them to the top of that shroud. I’ve taken out the two covered screws at the top and the two behind the cup holder but it’s still locked in place.

I should probably make a video of that. I have NOT taken the dash that far apart, but I have taken it apart down to the bezel around the buttons below the HVAC controls, and you'll have to get at least that out of the way first. Start by popping out the left vent above the shifter, then the shifter bezel comes out if you pull it out and upward. leave the boot attached but pull it out of the way. Next, remove the rubber insert from the upper cup holder on the right side of the console and remove the Torx screw. Pull it up and out of the way, but the wires to the 12V and USB will keep it from being removed. Then you can access the screws and clips holding the button bezel in. I think once that's out, there's more screws and lots of clips holding the lower part of the dash in. Remove the 3-cup holder (it just pops straight up with no screws) and there may also be some screws behind or under it you need to deal with to get that part removed.

Hi, just found your video. Very informative and simple to understand and follow. I am in the process of installing a GMRS radio in my 2018 Ram Promaster... and found you have a video for running antenna cable through the firewall!! Very cool and thank you so much. One last thing... I also noticed that you have an antenna that is just barely showing on your left. What is the antenna mount that you are using? The slope of the hood isn't giving me a very good horizontal plane :-)

I'm using the Nagoya lip mount, but crucially, I'm using the Comet SBB-5 which is designed and tuned to work well without being mounted in the middle of a ground plane, for 2m and 70cm ham frequencies. It is probably not a good choice for GMRS. I needed the antenna to not add substantially to the overall height of the van. I did test a few different locations and this has now worked very well for about 3 years. No complaints.

Hey, where did you get your precision screwdrivers from? I need to see if the mechanic I took my Promaster to unplugged the radio. He said that is what was draining my battery but now I’m stuck with no radio/backup camera and no a/c.

Does that clipboard fold up like other model of Ducatos? I have a MY19 Ducato and can't work out if ours flips up without breaking it?

No ProMaster sold in the North American market came with the fancy clipboard from the factory. The tablet holder from the European market Ducato is ridiculously expensive, and I've only seen a few here in the US. All were installed as aftermarket upgrades by professional upfitter/builders or private owners.

Have you switched to LED headlight bulbs? I’d love a tutorial on how to do that.

I haven't, but I've read the horror stories of folks having to replace the driver's side bulb frequently. I've only had this van about 2 months. I don't have any plans to change over to LED, but if I ever do, I'll be sure to walk through it on video.

@@rebeccameyer3527 did you replace the original stereo/nav system with something else? The factory system is tightly integrated with the dashboard, and the odometer will flash if it can't communicate with the factory stereo. This also happens if the stereo fuse goes out.
