Ramadhan Moon-Sighting differences amongst scholars in Islam by Sh Yasir Qadhi

In this clip you can see which scholarly opinion is closer to the truth. If we are living in neighboring coutries, are we obliged to fast on the same day when someone sees the moon ? Or should we sight the moon in our own location and start fasting ?

Z Hejja ه ١٣٩٩ (Shekha Bin Baaz) The grand scholar Mufti of Saudi Arabia (Al Bathul Islami p 63) After doing extensive research on this issue, he concludes with this statement. ‘As for those who say that it is necessary to follow the sighting of Makkah then let it be known that there is no proof or basis for this in the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah’.

I think its a wrong analogy to say Friday in India is different from the Friday of USA, Juma prayer was given on Friday in different regions and era since the time of Prophet Muhammad S, so in that regard we could follow global sighting of the moon for the sake of Unity.

we all have to practice observing the moon.I have been doing it for the past few years.If u practice it u will come to know that scientific lunar month is the same Islamic month..,where Quran says phases of the moon are dates for the mankind.2:189.we cant see the moon if there is atleast 40 minutes difference between moon set and sun set.But Muslims are seeing it if there is 3 minutes differences .How many muslims know that we are looking the setting moon and not rising moon.New moon day is the last day and next day is one.

Basically summary if not living in saudi going by moon sighting is sunnah way... going by saudi monarchy is wrong way.

I don't follow anything but I hope that I am and I will InshaAllah follow only the Qur'an and sunnah as it should be followed. I want to be that person whom Allah addresses as " O you who believe.."in the Quran...I just want to be a muslim following the deen that Muhammad (pbuh) left behind.I feel no need to associate to any group of people.But I don't deny the need of scholars and Ijtihaad.

only thing we have do is verse no.2:189 we have to change the meaning of ahilla (its plural) from new moon to phases of the moon..Prophet S.W said to observe the moon and decide not see the moon with naked eye..Quran says sun and moon follow exact calculation..we are accepting calculation of the sun and we pray according to it.We are not ready to accept the calculation of the moon..I dont understand why..Quran mentions it clearly and all are behind confusing hadeeses..May one day other community will take scientific lunar month then we will tell that 1400 years back it is there in Quran.Actually International Date line is the place where Juma and Zuhar prayer happen on same time but day is same its the place where 0 hours and 24 hours meet.unfortunately if was invented by Europians .who can change the dates which are already fixed by Allah ST?think we are following the wrong method because Imams are not trying learn the scientific facts.sighting of the moon will be different for even for 100klm distance..will the day different for those 2 cities..we are performing all the prayers in an order Saudi peoople will never pray Juma prayer before Indians pray..Idd prayer should also be like that.Shawal I is a date and day should also be same..otherwise Islam religion itself is not scientific...

Who is responsible to declare the sight of moon? I mean is there any responsibility to obey my mosque or nation or declaration of the world? Even if I see it then shall I follow it even the Imam is following some other days?

There is a mistake Shaykh Yasir when you have narrated the Hadith of Kuraib. It was Friday not Monday when they saw the Moon in Sham. Saturday when they saw the Moon in Madinah. حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي كُرَيْبٌ، أَنَّ أُمَّ الْفَضْلِ ابْنَةَ الْحَارِثِ، بَعَثَتْهُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ بِالشَّامِ قَالَ فَقَدِمْتُ الشَّامَ فَقَضَيْتُ حَاجَتَهَا فَاسْتُهِلَّ رَمَضَانُ وَأَنَا بِالشَّامِ فَرَأَيْنَا الْهِلاَلَ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ ثُمَّ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَسَأَلَنِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْهِلاَلَ فَقَالَ مَتَى رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ قُلْتُ رَأَيْتُهُ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَنْتَ رَأَيْتَهُ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ وَرَآهُ النَّاسُ وَصَامُوا وَصَامَ مُعَاوِيَةُ ‏.‏ قَالَ لَكِنَّا رَأَيْنَاهُ لَيْلَةَ السَّبْتِ فَلاَ نَزَالُ نَصُومُهُ حَتَّى نُكْمِلَ الثَّلاَثِينَ أَوْ نَرَاهُ ‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ أَفَلاَ تَكْتَفِي بِرُؤْيَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَصِيَامِهِ قَالَ لاَ هَكَذَا أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ Narrated Kuraib: That Ummu al-Fadl, daughter of al-Harith, sent him to Mu'awiyah in Syria. He said: I came to Syria and performed her work. The moon of Ramadan appeared while I was in Syria. We sighted the moon on the night of Friday. When I came to Madina towards the end of the month (of Ramadan), Ibn 'Abbas asked me about the moon. He said: When did you sight the moon ? I said: I sighted it on the night of Friday. He asked: Did you sight it yourself ? I said: Yes, and the people sighted it. They fasted and Mu'awiyah also fasted. He said: But we sighted it on the night of Saturday. Since then we have been fasting until we complete thirty days or we sight it. Then I said: Are the sighting of the moon by Mu'awiyah and his fasts not sufficient for us? YASIR Qadi , please emphasise HILAL and not just the moon. Islam refers to HILALA [FIRST CRESCENT] not any phase of the moon.

Ex hanafi please don't post shaykh Yasirs videos with that channel name. He is perfectly fine with mathaahib and doesn't like anti madhabist and has distant himself from salafi groups

Seeker Many salafis do not have a problem with following a madhab either, particularly for a lay person. Those salafis would just say that if there is any clear distinction that can be made on a particular point where one view is weak or inauthentic, you should abandon it and follow the strongest opinion if/when that comes to your knowledge. This is not an unreasonable position. I agree that the name is a bit unnecessary. We shouldn’t take offence at it though.
