Ramayana from Laos : Sita Haran scene

The Lao Ramayana differs from the original Indian version of the Ramayana. The Ramayana reached Laos late, around the sixteenth century, brought by Buddhist missions. The original Indian epic adapted to the geography, names of figures and regional languages. Consequently, all the story in the Lao Ramayana is situated in the valley of the Mekong, the grand royal city is called Chanthabouri Si Sattanak, while Lanka remains an island far from the heart of the kingdom, inaccessible and dangerous.
The India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit was the occasion for the Ramayana Festival by ASEAN countries which was held in New Delhi from 20-24 January 2018, at Kamani Auditorium. This was organized by ICCR or the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the premier Indian governmental body that organizes cultural festivals and revives ancient Indian traditions. The ICCR is doing a seminal job of taking Indian culture around the globe and bringing global culture to India.
