Wow, I know I'm kind of late in commenting, but this has to be one of the most interesting videos of Rambalac, from a cultural point of view- because all of his videos are extremely interesting. I enjoyed the whole thing so much, that I searched about the Awa-Odori dance, it's origins and history and from what I've read, it goes way back to feudal Japan of the 12th century! I love that the younger generations keep these 1000 yrs old traditions alive, as I've seen many teenagers and very young children among the dancers. Thank you Rambalac for sharing this with us!

You probably don't know that on that day, among the dancers and musicians, you filmed four people from France, invited by Takarabune, the troop in red (31:26). What a surprise to see four of my friends in one of your videos, I would have never expected that ! We are Tsunagari Ren from Paris, and this summer we will be back in Shimokitazawa with 13 people ! I hope you will be there too, let's enjoy the festival together !

Red guys, from 31min, are called Takarabune (寶舟). It's one of the only professionnal group of Awa Odori in the world (99% of them are not) and perform every years in Europe, America and, of course, Japan. If you have any interest I their performances, please check their website, facebook or Twitter.

I found your channel by accident, but honestly NO other walk-through video channel does this as good as you. You take (by-far) the best routes and have the best pace and the best camera angles. I love the bit-rate of the GH5 and I'm glad to see someone actually filming on a proper DSLR (micro 4/3 is plenty good) rather than a shitty DJI osmo or their iPhone. So happy to have found this channel! Gonna sub now :)

I wish better battery because with remote control it's enough only for 1-1.5h.
@ArsensMusic7 жыл бұрын
Have you tried using an external battery source?
@Rambalac7 жыл бұрын
On gimbal? And they are not reliable because dont provide battery level, so if it runs out video get lost.
@ArsensMusic7 жыл бұрын
You could attach this to your GH5 and then put it in your backpack or other bag depending on the cord length: " Power Plate DV-7.2-GH2-GH5 " Maybe even somehow attach it to the gimbal or the camera. It works with the GH5 and it even shows battery level. Lasts for about 5-8 hours with the GH5 filming in 4K I believe. I just don't know how the gimbal would work with the DC adapter wire since it would dangle I suppose. I know this is probably not the best solution, but its just something I found. I use the 2 handed Ronin Gimbal stabilizer and never do long shoots for more than an hour so I guess I can't be much help. Hope you figure out a solution though!

I love to watch the Japanese people in these city walks. My heart warmed at the older lady with her hand on her man, him giving her support. There is a difference with women on the street in the US and there in Japan. I can't quite figure it out, but I think part of it is the lack of pretense of the Japanese women. The young couples, for all the talk of lack of intimacy by some commentators, seemed comfortable and very much together. This all was evident on my recent trip to New Orleans Louisiana. There were a fairly large number of Japanese on the street that were obviously tourists. Maybe just me but I do see a difference as i was able to compare. A general example is the way people react in your videos when they discover they are being filmed. When people discover they are being taped in the US it can be very different (once again, generally). As a news photographer/producer I've learned to watch reactions of people on tape. Watch the occasional Caucasian especially in this crowd, you'll see. Anyway, great video. Thanks.

These areas in the videos remind me of some historical sites in Toronto like the Distillery District and Yorkville: Many pathways where both pedestrians and vehicles are sharing them. We have most roads lined with raised sidewalks for walkers.

The fading light and glowing warmth of the street lights under a canopy of clouds, makes this clip especially moody, while the waiting bowl of hot udon puts a spring into the steps of the harried office worker. Although the attire testifies otherwise, this clip puts a chill in my bones as I prepare for bed. Indeed, the fading light. Goodnight.

youtube recommended this video to me (after I watched some of Rambalac's most recent videos) and it's kinda surreal to see the difference. there was a non-japan drummer some where around 32min and i remember seeing another dancer I think some time before that. From what I understand, never having been to Japan, but reading a lot and watching many bloggers, Japan is very open and loves to share their culture. I've known other festivals where a non-Japan person who lived locally help to carry a shrine for a festival, and those things are really heavy.

That was great! I thought I would just watch a few minutes, but I watched the whole thing. I couldn't stop! Hayaccha yaccha!! But who are the dancers and performers? Do they organize just for this festival once a year?
@Rambalac7 жыл бұрын
Can not say for sure, but think they are some Awa-Odori or japanese culture clubs from different places.
@johns75397 жыл бұрын
PhiloYT1 Awa odori originated in Tokushima, the town was formerly called Awa. In late Aug when Japanese welcome back their ancestors for Obon, the people dance and celebrate (like the "day of the dead "). Check out Awa odori in tokushima, they have over 80 troops
@Rambalac7 жыл бұрын
Strange, I thought I posted comment here. I think dancers are from local awa-odori or japanese culture clubs around Tokyo or maybe even further. That people can participate in other festivals.
@beshop5 жыл бұрын
Most of them are locals. There is, usually, one group per city. Shimokitazawa is special as it's very famous but, instead of Koenji (which is the second biggest Awa Odori festival in Japan), you can find more 'originals' and not 'official' groups which are not classified 100% traditionnals. For your information, in Awa Odori à group is called Ren (連)
