As a European I have to pay 50% over the US price and I still find these good value, you guys don't know how good you have it. Just got a Delica in K390 a few days ago for $160 and it felt like a great deal, sprint runs are normally closer to $200.

My first (really good/expensive) knife was a black Spyderco Delica 4 with the black coated, partially serrated blade shape. A few years and about 25 folding knives later... I feel that the Delica 4 is more then just an old knife with FRN handle scales, VG-10 and a back lock. It’s a platform. And that’s what makes it unique within the Spyderco portfolio. Not many other knives anywhere in the market can offer a combination of::: flat ground, wharncliffe, saber, sheepsfoot, hawkbill, trainer and Emerson blade shapes. VG-10, H1, zdp-189, Damascus and sprint run blade steels. Plane, fully serrated and partially serrated edge geometry. FRN, stainless steel, titanium and G10 handle scales. Black, red, brown, foliage, orange, green, purple, blue, grey, British racing green and zome color ways. True. There are a few models in the Spyderco catalog that are better then the Delica. But nothing else (save for the smaller dragonfly and larger endura) offers such a wide variety of options under one singular platform. And that’s the beauty of the Spyderco Delica 4. Also doesn’t hurt to be one of the most iconic knives in the industry.

I remember getting more into knives around the 2000's but dismissed Spyderco because if the style. 22 yrs later and a few Kershaw Ken Onion, Benchmade and a CR Umnumzaan, this is my first Spydi. That Delica 4 is just easy. I'm always about DIY, fushung, kayak etc. Perfect tool. It's also discreet, not too expensive if you loose or break it. I also just know, that if I really needed it, it could save my bacon. Surprised to develop that confidence in a knife I thought gimmicky 20 yrs ago. Great to use daily.

Considering that the Spyderco Delica was introduced in 1990 and I just paid (2021) $91 on Amazon for one, that yes its still a good knife! I live in Upstate NY and assisted knifes are illegal, you can imagine how difficult it is to buy (Amazon) a knife on Amazon because of this but I had no problem buying the Delica 4 , Astute, Meadowlark 2 & Cara Cara 2.

The prices used to be pretty reasonable on spyderco especially the Para 3 lightweight. Now the Delica is nearly 90 dollars and the para 3 is almost 130 which is lunacy in my opinion, especially when you can get imported options from brands like Kizer with Titanium, better steel, better handle material for the same or less money.

I think spyderco really did it all and now its time to get myself one for edc and unboxing. Prolly gonna get the delica 4 anyway just for collection cause as you said, its the starting drug :D Pricewise cant complain, here in europe they cost twice the price but willing to shell out some cash for some quality product.

I think a lot of people complain about knives because they aren't "new" enough. They get bored of the steel, the design and the hype. The Delica was great when it came out, it still is, VG10 has yet to disappoint me (it's still WAY better than all those cheap 440 steel knives that most people I know own) and it's durable. It's a proven design and a classic. Sure, classics may get boring after a while, but that doesn't make them any less good.

As long as people are cutting things with metal blades, knives cannot be “obsolete”. Why do people talk about the delica like it’s a piece of knapped flint? You don’t hear people blethering about opinels and victorinox knives being obsolete and yet they’re still probably the most utilised knives in some places today. Why spydercos? My guess is people want to hold contrary opinions to appear individual, independent and different. You can extend this to almost any tool with a practical application. Yes, an F22 fighter makes a tiger moth biplane look ridiculously slow and old fashioned. Now let’s say you need to go crop dusting. Which are you taking?
