Jordan has spent the past few weeks getting the 461 stroker in his '68 GTO dialed-in. We are now finally ready to show you some of what this thing can do. It's running on all motor in this video, but Jordan did just finish the stand alone fuel setup for his nitrous system. Thanks again to Butler Performance for all their help in getting this thing spec'd out properly. Can't say enough about their CNC-ported Edelbrock D-port heads either, these things rock. Thanks for watching, we appreciate it!

In my opinion nothing sounds as good as a cammed up Pontiac. I built up a 428 back in my college days(early 80's) for a '69 GTO I then had. I followed the instruction from H-O Racing and those guys knew what they were talking about. Done right these engines are beasts! Your car brings back a lot of great memories. Great job!!

I have a blast doing the same thing to my 77 Trans Am with my Butler 505 engine. The sound, the power, the ability to shred the tires without even doing a brake torque is amazing. Opening her up and letting those ponies loose is something I'll never get tired of. What a great video and this is so cool watching you pound on that GTO and it coming back for more. To all the guys watching this video and on the fence about what and where to go with building a Pontiac engine, don't look any further than to Butler Performance. Hands down the best decision I ever made concerning my TA and the best company and people I ever worked with. They made doing my engine hassle free and the results speak for themselves.

What a beautiful goat. Oh I had a 68 gto in early 80's with a rocking Kragen radio. I think it was kraken or something. It had a 411 rear end from a buick. And a Kenny bell switch pitch transmission. That car would chirp into 3rd gear at 15 mph in a parking lot. It had a 389 tri power with head work and 30 over block and about 11.75 to one compression. It kept building power from the line as it had a top end cam shaft ground by Norris cams. Man that car was a hoot smoking the tires well into third. The high compression meant at times it pinged alot. Looking back that car must have been running around with 550 horsepower back in the day, which was rare back then for street fighters. although I never dynoed it. Thanks for bringing back memories.

Thanks, I appreciate that! Yeah, with all that torque, it definitely has no trouble breaking them loose, even with the 3.36 gears in the rear. I even realized later that I had left the drag radials aired down in the video because I had been working on getting it to launch.
@puddleduckist
@puddleduckist 4 жыл бұрын
Right on, pontiacs dont need much gear in them to run hard. I have seen many ponchos with 3.42 to 3.55's run very fast in the quarter. I bought a 71 8.5 olds rear with bolt in axles years ago from a friend for 150.00. My friend talked me into 4.10s which is just too much. I'm going to put in a set of 3.42's with a 30 spline trutrac and Moser axles.
@RamblinAround
@RamblinAround 4 жыл бұрын
@@puddleduckist I put the 3.36's in it, but I was worried they might be a little tall. Honestly though, I think they're just fine for my combo. It makes cruising a little more bearable too. I drove it 65 miles each way the other day to work, and it cruises interstate speeds easily. Yeah, I think you'll be happy with the 3.42's, they are probably the perfect compromise between acceleration and cruising.

From Panama City Fl. To Dayton Oh. Many times, once to the beach at SC. And a couple time to CA. I even got it stuck on Pismo Beach- only time I ever paid for a “tow”. I took quite a few pictures of beautiful scenery looking out over that hood.

Man, I LOVE this car. Wow. My very first car, when I was 14, was a 69 Pontiac LeMans. With a 400. We called it the White Ghost. I learned to drive in that car. My dad was scared I would hurt myself and made me trade for a Pontiac Fiero! Still mad. But, I've loved those Pontiacs for years. My dream car has always been a chrome bumper C3 Corvette. Now I have one. I've LS swapped it, big cam, carb, headers. Got some heads to port to add a little extra compression. But, always worried about the IRS breaking. Those half shafts are a weak point. We will see. I haven't run my car but a few miles, and hoping to get to finally make a pass this weekend at the track. Not sure where you're located, but if we cross paths, maybe we can stage these two beast up, see what they do. Bad ass ride. If you ever get rid of it, let me know. Check out my little Vette if you can. All best.

Hey, 3350 is not bad. At all. Especially with the cage, full interior, big block! Man, that car can easily go 6s in the eight on motor. You trying to knock down some 5s on nitrous? That would be awesome for a 50+ year old street driven car. It is a contender, for sure. Keep the videos rolling, and let me know how it goes.

That's awesome man, glad you got the car you've always wanted, good luck with it! Sounds like you've got it setup really well. My Trans Am went in the low 7's in the eighth, as long as the GTO can run in the 6's I'm fine with that. I mostly just built it just for fun, so I'm not super concerned with track times.

Sir, firstly that’s an amazing machine and it sounds even better! I’m currently do all the research for rebuilding my ‘70 LeMans. My dad and I restored it when I was in high school. It has matching numbers so I’m gonna pull the original 350 out and start over. But I digress... I just missed out on a 428 on eBay tonight and I’m pissed! But seeing this video has thrown me off and I need to do some more evaluating. But my initial question is what trans and shift setup do you have? That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks man

Love that sound and that torque! I'm currently rebuilding my 70 GTO 455 and considering something similar to your build. Does Butler Performance help with choosing the right parts? Also, does that run on pump gas?
