Yo Buildzoid, it's the daily driver. Don't stress over the pedestrian memory settings, because it always works. I'm around a lot of car guys and the smart ones daily drive a boring Ford or Toyota because the last thing you want to do in the morning is undo your tinkering to drive to work. It's not being a poser, it's being practical my dude.

Bro, I bought a Sapphire Toxic 6900 XT LC and I had to zip-tie a CPU fan to it to replace the VRM fan, DAY ONE, because they shipped it to me with a broken fan that only has maximum fan speed. It couldn't ramp down, it was always 3000 RPM so I put a CPU fan on it instead. Sniped the deal for $600, though.

I still don't understand why people use an air gun to just blow dust around when using a small shop vac with the proper attachments works so much better and actually traps all the dust rather than blowing it all over your room or embedding it deep in the system. Forcing dirt into fan bearings and other sensitive mechanical devices just doesn't make sense to me

I absolutely loved the Genesis, it cooled my >1,4v 5GHz 2500k at ~75°C for nearly 8 years. There was a bunch of german forum threads about how to fit these Prolimatech coolers on Am4 (3d printed brackets, using other manufacturers mounting kits etc) and to make these solutions available to the community, some people managed to do it but never anything that could be done without a lot of effort. Glad to see this relic is getting another life in your system!

I love your personal system because it reminds me of my personal system, which is separate from my test bench. I still have a GTX Titan Z in my PC, and no, I didn’t pay $3,000 for it! I got it for only $200 because the previous owner wasn’t sure if it would work. Interestingly, it’s an EVGA card. I didn’t think any AIB would produce a GTX Titan Z given the small market, and I don’t recall if Nvidia was offering GPUs directly at that time

My AM5 machine memory retrained constantly, with DOCP and JDEC. Turns out the CPU power cable wasn't seated fully in the PSU. After reseating power cables there and in the 24pin motherboard connection, it never did it again. This build is near to one I'm contributing to so this was a real treat to see a similar hardware setup get deep-dove.

Thermal putty is awesome, I personally switched to CX-H1300(13,5w/mk) for my ASRock PG 7900XTX but I would have got the Upsiren UTP-8 if i'd purchased today. Good putty performs just as good as good pads, without all the problems you just mentioned yourself. If no alteranative TIM suitable for vram/vrm with significant improvements comes to be, I don't see myself returning to pads anytime soon.

@@umeng2002 I agree that is not much discussed, though I have heard it said at least once on an early Linus LTT YT video suggesting not arbitrarily spinning up fans. Pragmatically, I think you can clear the dust more effectively if the fan is not spinning and as I said, there is no reason to test the hypothesis that it does cause damage. :)

@@x8jason8x Agree technical channels tell you this. I guess people don't remember until is happens to them. I think the bigger risk is that electric motors can also act as generators: if you spin the blades with air you generate a voltage. Spin them fast enough and you can burn out the header of the IC on the motherboard that drives the fan. So just replacing the fan wont fix things.

I flashed the msi surprimx 360w bios on the same card, and that's seems to be the sweet spot. It doesn't ever power throttle, but it doesn't also consume a tedious amount of power. It typically hovers 320 to 340 in games. Some games can max out the power limit, but it's rare. Have not tested any 3D mark tests on it, but I'd imagine that it would smash into the power limit there.

I'd imagine you could just have a rad + 2 or 3 120mm fans sit upright with a couple of foot brackets on one end using the threads that are there, like washers. Which, then you could point fan exhaust over the memory. Then you would just need to remove the block on the cpu and the aio/rad could be moved around when testing other processors. Would be slightly more cumbersome, but you would have more headroom to tinker.

I tried taking the shroud off my EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, zipped on 2x Noctua PPC 120mm fans and even at 2500 rpm, the stock 3x fans and shroud still perform better. I figured the shroud has to add enough air pressure to offset the lesser airflow. I even re-pasted using Thermal Grizzly Extreme. Only 5c worse, but still worse never made sense. DESHROUD GANG !! gpu fans are the worst. Had a fan bearing on a ROG 2070S get loose and start making noise after a year. Deshrouded that and never looked back. The heatsink seemed good on that though, it could stay at like 60-65°C with 120mm noctuas running at 1200rpm (which is basically borderline inaudible) at 280W. After some time I switched to an MSI 3090 Gaming X Trio and it was way worse. The stock fans on that made a really bad type of noise that even when it was fairly quiet, it was annoying and audible through my headphones. So those went right away. However after testing the card I couldn't get it to any acceptable temperatures, had it opened like 5 times, repasted, repadded, still shit temps (75°C at 260W with those same noctua fans), so in the end I went and bought an aftermarket cooler by Morpheus. Temps dropped by like 10 - 15°C, so yea, I really believe the heatsink matters too, and in the case of MSI it was utter trash. So that's an option for GPU temps - Morpheus heatsink

he has a video called easy ddr5 timings, use that. you are also running in 2:1 mode which = byebye performance unless you are running 7600+mhz vs 1:1 6000mhz, if you can run 6200 in 1:1 then you need to run 7800-8000mhz in 2:1 to compete depending on timings.

@@sparklingion Alright thanks alot for the information, I picked patriot viper for ram since i was running them in my current ddr4 build, Would you say its a good choice again for ddr5 or is there any better options?

@@Haxete Ram manufactur doesn't matter too much (though some imo have better populated pcbs than the lower brands or kits) what really matters if it is hynix memory sticks over samsung or micron for ddr5. You can always look up your ram model # in the memory QVL tab on motherboard websites or check cpu-z to see if it is hynix. M die isn't really made anymore (except for 24-48gb sticks) so expect it to be A die, which is good ;P

You don’t damage fan headers, why this disproven myth exists is beyond me. You should know this Buildzoid, we know what a diode does yes? Just hold the center of the fan with a finger to keep it from spinning.
