The padlocked pipes look like old monitoring wells. Maybe for the quarry or some old disposal area.

Those capped pipes are likely monitoring wells for a possible underground mine fire. I remember seeing similar pipes shown in videos of places like Centralia.

The old railroad bed also has the pipes on it marking the pipeline that runs along it from the landfill to leola

The old railroad beds runs down lower an into the sand quarry I live below the railroad bed at the bottom of the mountain

Been on those trails many times. The camera doesn't do it justice. The climb up from the creek on the way back is so steep I'm surprised the dirt stays on the hill. Fun park to spend an afternoon.

The connector trails that go from the red blaze cockscomb trail down to the iron horse trail aren't marked. Iron Horse trail is blue blaze. At 13:50 where the metal things are you would turn right and it takes you down to the iron horse trail. You hiked the cockscomb never made it to the iron horse.
