to be honest addressing plagiarism is important to youtube as a whole. It is a topic which should be up there with fair use. But since it often times screws over sites that aren't youtube it is overlooked.

+Isac Carrillo Me neither. KZbin is one big stream of people copying others. If it's not reporting on the exact same news, it'll be on the other exact same stuff. Everybody pretends to be 'first'. I don't think it's useful to really try to combat that and people will 'like' their fav youtuber anyway. As for re-using other people's ideas or exact content, I think there should be ways of dealing with that without public shaming or YT drama. Problem is... KZbin doesn't care, neither do the viewers. It's only a problem for channel owners who will see less views than could have.
@bomber99128 жыл бұрын
+Edoardo Titto Oh c'mon not again. i had this already couple of videos ago. People do not understand what plagiarism is or what it is about. Plagiarism has nothing to with 'Fair Use' or copyright. People mix it up all the time. Copyright divides into two different parts: One part is the things that are actually licensed and copyrighted like games, movies, music. They are licensed by big industries. The second part is youtube itself. KZbin basically guarantees you copyright on the content you create, but gives exceptions to a certain extent, which they call 'Fair Use'. So other content creater can use your content (obviously talking about videos here), if they want to talk about it or if they add a lot of own content to it. An the industry also allows you to talk about it, because it is considered to be advertisement. This is all 'Fair Use' and the copyright. CUT. And then there are informations. You can't license facts or words or the things you say. You can patent ideas tho and they get registered. That's why no 'Fair Use' or no copyright applies to it. If you quote someone and make money on it, you do not have to share the money with him. However you have to cite it properly and name your sources. And that is what bothers me about this whole 'Matthew Santoro' story. Plagiarism is NOT about copying word by word without citing, it's about informations and every youtuber did it or does it. Getting informations and neither citing it nor telling your source is plagiarism. Let's say Boogie talks about a new game coming up, he got his informations to the most part from an interview of a developer with a gaming magazine. Not citing this and not saying "This dev said that to pc world magazine" is already plagiarism. If you use informations that you did not come up with on your own, you have to cite them. The only reason why this came out, was the fact that Matthew was directly quoting word by word without mentioning where he got it from. But the thing is: There is no difference between copying every word or copying the infomation without citing it. And that's what pisses me off. People jump up on that bash train having no clue what they are talking about. If you want citing to be a thing now on youtube, then you will make the work of youtuber a lot harder (some might even quit), and you will have 20-30 lines of sources under each video. In my opinion crossing this line would be a very big mistake.
@edoardostefaninmustacchi22328 жыл бұрын
So no line should be drawn for any scenario ever? I'm fine with taking ideas from outer sources without meticulously citing them all. But if you think reading texts from other sites and profiting off of it is fine ( when you don't ever bother to mention that) should be something accepted, i just disagree. I know that both taking ideas and quoting word to word fall under the category of plagiarism, but a line can be drawn on wether the latter is acceptable in comparison to the former. A line we can work to draw. Rules can be set you know?
@bronzenrule8 жыл бұрын
+bomber9912 You're incorrect. Works of published text, in print and on the internet, are protected under copyright law. Copying nearly verbatim the work of another without proper citation is theft of intellectual property, and one can be held liable for it. EDIT: This applies only to works that have copyright protections, which are automatically granted upon publishing, and not to works residing in the public domain after their copyright protections have expired.

I think it's critical that we see content creators on KZbin evolve over time, be it short or extended and in any form, over recent weeks I think we have all witnessed Boogie take a few steps and think before applying changes to what he's creating for us which is absolutely excellent, it isn't the first or hopefully last time he will do this and this is what drives me back to his videos time and time again, his passion for subjects and trying to see both sides coupled with his undeniable love for every supporter he has out there but he also hasn't drowned beneath the wave of popularity, if anything he's keeping a level head and constantly evaluating his situation. Absolute inspiration as a human being and any future or current content creators anywhere in the world should take a page from the book of Boogie (If you read this Boogie, I think "The Book of Boogie" would be a great autobiography title!) Keep at it my friend, even if the KZbin algorithms work against you I believe through word of mouth your fans will continue to make your channel grow, you don't need the luck of an algorithm when you've got what you have.

Boogie cares about what his viewers want, but also realizes that you can't please everyone 100% of the time. He makes the content he would like to see himself and listens to feedback. For all the shit he gets, he's pretty understanding and very reserved about his opinions. He doesn't really choose sides, but looks at both sides and see's the highs and lows of each. Keep up the great work Boogie! Been a fan for a while now and will continue to support you in the future!

Although this is a non traditional critique in that I am not pointing a negative or something wrong. I want to point what i think you are doing right. You are one of the few youtubers that seem to come across as someone who tries to develop a well round argument. Acknowledging both sides of the argument in a well thought out way that goes after the merit of the argument, versus a emotional rant against said person. Phillip Defranco mentioned one of your videos i think the Fine Bros one, a while and i have been glad I watched and now subscribed. P.S. I also love the Francis character and realize he is for comedic effect and how we sometimes need to laugh at the ridiculousness of the internet. Keep up the great work.

I first found you through your video with Philip Defranco (one L in Philip, two in Philly, it's a peeve of his) but since you were gaming I didn't check out your channel. Then I saw your video with Michael Buckley, The Struggles Is Real, and I thought "Yes, this is a person I would like to hear more from and support." So here I am. My critique is simple. For those of us who would be more interested in you than you gaming make that content easier to find? I eventually figured out your Rambles were what I was what I was looking for but I know some people who would have been like "Oh, it's all gaming. I'm out." I do love your 2016 Welcome video though and your balance of positivity and groundedness (is that a word?). I look forward to exploring your content.

You and Philly are my two favorite KZbinrs so I'm very excited for that podcast. You both treat every topic with unprecedented intelligence and emotional maturity that you rarely see. I will critique you as well, but these are very small critiques. So I think that you expected your fan base to mostly be nerdy people and that you'd cater your content to that, but then you became famous because of your insightful vlogs and personal stories so because of that I believe that your partially living in multiple world's and you aren't meshing them as well as you could. I believe that your rambling series would be greatly improved with gaming in the corner or as the main screen and you in the corner, but hey that's just me.

Hey Boogie, when you're going through your old videos, could you pay attention to the amount of times that you call out trolls / people saying shitty things, and them count out the amount of times you've said things like, "at the end of the day, you just have to ignore them". My criticism is to worry less about giving us what we say we want, and focus on giving us what you think we need. I generally only know what I want when I have a problem and need a tutorial. When I tab over to my subscribed list, I'm not looking for anything in particular, I really just want to be entertained, hear a story, and maybe learn a thing or two. To be honest, I'm a little jealous of all the KZbinrs who can just turn on a microphone and start talking. I've got Tourette's Syndrome so it can be a little difficult to express myself in an engaging manner through my voice. So in a way I can live my fantasy by watching you do it. So no matter what you talk about, express yourself and don't apologize to anyone, you've got the floor!

The reason I love your channel is the humane appreciation that you're giving to your viewers, but you also take waaaay too seriously some of the criticism and you're trying to please. Your channel has been awesome for the last two years, that I've watched it and the only change I saw is you gathering more viewers and more followers, which of course includes a bunch of people that aren't happy with what you're doing. You can't prevent that and as you said in this video, you should ignore it. I don't think you should change in anyway. Your so called "drama" videos are what helped me figure out what's going in a certain topic and it was very useful information, presented with both point of views. I think you should just push forward and that you're doing an amazing job and I guess my criticism for you is for being too pure hearted and wanting to please everyone. Hope you read this and if you do I'd love it if you'd reply. That's my opinion and I think it's the opinion all your true fans share. Keep rockin

Second, just because you talk about a popular topic on KZbin doesn't mean your in the circle jerk. It just shows that you acknowledge what's happening in the now. Even with some hard times in our gaming and KZbin communities, you always find the better side of things and make me realize why I'm so passionate for gaming, or that I should always find happiness no matter what I'm going through. You've become one of my favorite youtubers on both channels from things like Francis making me laugh, or your videos about life and things you enjoy, to even on your gaming channel giving your impressions of games I never would have thought about buying before. Thanks for getting me into overwatch by the way, it's one of the most fun games I've played in a while (and I don't even play many FPS games. I really like a majority of the content you put out and I'm glad that you are still going to cover the big news stories and current events, as that is how I found you. Specifically, your video on the react world stuff was in the suggestion sidebar after I watched the DeFranco show about it. I'm not really sure what my critique would be for your videos though, and the only ones that I won't criticise are the Francis videos. The reason for this is that I generally don't like those videos. I have watched them in the past and I have found that the only ones I have enjoyed at all are the ones where I know about the situation and think that it is as ridiculous as you portray, and most likely have raged about myself. However, I don't think that is a weakness of the show, in fact I recognise that it is just me and my taste being a bit different or just my mood. As such I don't feel like I have the right to criticise them. When it comes to your other videos, I try to watch them all the way through. I think the only time I went out of the way to close a video was when deadpool spoilers were about to start and I hadn't seen it yet. But I love that you have that two section style and it's something that I will go back to after I have seen the film. I still need to do that for deadpool, this just reminded me. Your rambling series and your current events coverage and your unboxings are all things that I really enjoy. I like how open you are and that you give background and such when you don't want to give some sort of information, for example the medication you take. I have to be honest, I didn't understand that at first because I'm British and that isn't how our medical system really works. Then I looked back at I think it was an old vlogbrothers video, and then that (and a whole load of American tv adverts) suddenly made a lot more sense. With the stuff going on recently, it has been hard to determine what is drama and what isn't. I don't think that the videos you put out were inherently drama videos as you structured them as you would any other video I've seen that is a current event kinda topic. I think that a lot of the drama recently got very personal very quickly, and when the current news is that two you tubers are taking potshots at each other through videos it can be difficult for it not to come across as drama click bait. Perhaps for this kind of stuff you could have a video that almost mentions it in passing so that people know that it's going on and what seems to have triggered it. That way people can know that somethings up and if they wish they can take extra measures to avoid any situation they don't like, and you can then maybe go on to discuss about the problem that is behind everything. I'm going to stop now as I am starting to ramble and what I type would probably be less and less coherent from here on out. Also, sorry if the format of this is messed up. I'm on my phone so not sure if it will just display as a huge text wall or what. Never used my phone for a comment this long.
@guyatanosavia84878 жыл бұрын
I personally found that your drama videos were the most insightful and understanding out of most anyone's on large topics, and thus I could more easily form my own opinion about some things that are going on rather than just joining a 'jerk-circle' as you call it ;3 However if that isn't your thing then don't make it A thing. Be you, that's what has gotten you as far as you've gotten. Critique: Don't shy away from your creative mind, nor should you do so with your genuine one, when it comes to making content. By that I mean, if you want to do a controversial skit, go ahead and do it! Ik that you have said that things such as insane hate responses that are on the crazy-trains border are unwanted, and that's totally cool and understandable. I probably wouldn't want those kinds of things getting back to those I care about either! Just remember that no matter what you do on your channel, your support will ALWAYS outweigh the hate and negativity. That's just the kind of community you have attracted. :) By genuine mind, I mean that you should speak what's on your mind freely. Have a good day Boogie

Hey boogie thanks for being such an inspiration to me! I just started a channel and im gonna be grinding videos everyday for a whole year! I've learned in my life that with hard work anything is possible so i set my goal for 100k subs in a year its gonna be hard but i think i can do it! Do you think i can?
@Boooooognish8 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't expect 100k in a year, 10k would be a great feat, but good luck

Hey Boogie I respect your point of view and I enjoy your content from time to time. One thing I've noticed in a couple of videos is your edits. When this video started it appeared as though a still was in the first couple frames of you just glaring at something. Also occasionally you don't edit out very small clips of you referring to your notes or staring at your screen; I just find it odd. I'm not hating on you or making fun. I'm just making an effort to bring this to your attention if you don't already know. It's very possible that you don't care or that you just never noticed it. Either way brother keep up the good work and keep fighting the good fight. Cheers. ;)

hey Boogie! Just subscribed last night, I've seen a few of the Francis vids over the years but never delved deeper into it. Hes a great character, but what I'm really enjoying is getting to know you by going through the vault of content, you seem such a cool, chilled out guy despite or because of the stuff you be been through, you're a real force of positivity and a voice of reason. long may you continue doing what makes you happy. thank you for doing what you do!

Hey Boogie, may I ask you a question; why do you choose to sleep during the day? When I was suffering from depression and anxiety, it was because I was coming out the other end of working nights, which after 2 years fucked me up big time. There is no doubt in my mind that being out in, or at least seeing daylight and sunshine is good for your soul. Maybe you should try it? Also I'd like to add there is zero judgement in what I'm saying. I'm a huge fan of yours and I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life, just imparting my own experiences in case they're any good to you.

As for comments/criticism, honestly, I think that you're doing a good job. This vlog was open and enjoyable, and you've shown in the past that you will own up to any mistakes you make, whether they're not getting the right point across in a video, or simply trying things that don't work. It's so much better than the videos by other youtubers that seem to not know when they're just digging themselves in deeper

Hey Boogie, just came across this channel, and it makes my heart thump when I think about how strong you've been and how much you've been through. Keep going man, you're inspirational, beautiful the way you are and you're doing amazing! You inspire me.

You're the most genuine KZbinr that I watch. Francis brought me to ya way back when, but after watching your other videos where you're just you, I realized you're a smart, funny guy who cares about people (even the ones he knows he'll never be in direct contact with). I'm happy you decided to start making videos. KZbin wouldn't be the same if you hadn't.

Being new to your channel, I was half expecting someone to trash talk Philly (no personal offense of course), but was pleasantly surprised to see the opposite, with some fellow YTer love (I think it might have been your headline lol). I met him very briefly in Chicago, and he is indeed a great guy! Look forward to seeing your segment.

Boogie do you have any series on Magic the Gathering and will you do more into that? I'm new to the game and I'm falling in love with it but as a newbie I could really use someone who I like to give info on the game even if it's just you playing with your wife or making a little video about it. :3

I have a vorpal blade in D&D, yet I never get a CRITICAL hit! It pisses me off SO fucking much. I spent way too much time saving up for it, and FFS I can't roll above a 15! My only critique for the channel is that I'd like to see more Francis sketches where he doesn't rage. Certainly he should rage in most of them, but I miss the ones like the nerf collection, the mountain dew sampling and hell, even the McWhopper sketch, where he's perfectly calm and straight-faced but so awkwardly silly. Other than that...yeah, keep it up. If you post it, I'll watch it. ^_^

Boogie are getting enough vitamin D3. I am worried you are not getting enough sun to manufacture the important vitamin. It goes without saying there all important but they affect your mood and bones from memory, I think. It sounds like me you are not getting enough golden rays. I am sure this would be having an effect on your mood and depression which is like a chain reaction. I bet you get sick of people suggesting stuff to you but it comes from a place of love. I love your channels and I love you man! I am sending out some good vibes to you from down under Australia. Keep up the great videos. You will have a lot of work this month and next what with all the great games dropping.

Boogs, not really a critique....but I'm curious, why do you always where the headphones in your videos? Is it just to listen to your audio on the live or for another reason? Wouldn't it make your videos look more natural if you didn't wear them? Don't really care either way just something I've noticed over time watching your vids.

my criticism is, well, I don't really have any for you. I love your content, you're, for the most part, unbiased, which I respect a lot, and you generally seem like a cool guy to hang around, and, hopefully, one day, I'll get the "chance of a lifetime" and meet you at a convention or something at some point. That'd be awesome! Just, keep up the good work, Stephen. :) p.s. is that how your name is spelled, I forget sometimes, I'm very sorry, haha!

Criticism. I've been watching your videos for years, but I never comment, because I know that I have nothing useful to add. But I wanted to say that, much like others have written in the comments, it's great that you choose to ignore the useless criticism - because it's worth nothing and is nothing but hurtful. Your videos have helped me through a lot, and I'm really grateful for that. My fiancée has become a big fan of you after I showed her your channel, so that's something nice for us to share, and it's awesome. Thank you for making the world a better place. - love from Denmark!

One "criticism" I would have is that there is not a regular uploading system I can see, it would be better to try and have a set day a week for the rambling series or just something so I know when to look out for your videos! Keep it up though Boogie!!

I'm not making a note of criticism, but I wanted to put an idea out for you! Why don't you put up videos of you playing MTG with your friends? It would probably fit better on the BoogiePlays channel, and I've always been interested in how you (you specifically) play MTG. I've watched your unboxings, and watched you play the online version, but I don't think there's anything like playing one on one in person, kind of like how Day9 does it. Not that you should copy his format. Hope you read this! Love your channels.

The only criticism I have is that I'd like to see you happy in your videos. With this current drama debacle you've been trying to address things and make sure it's not hurting people and such, but your best videos (at least to me) are when you genuinely love what you're talking about or are at least vey passionate. Keep up the good work!

I love Phillip DeFranco!! Our channels couldn't be further apart in terms of content, but I find him to be an extremely interesting and inspirational KZbinr, and I can honestly say he's one of the main reasons I decided to start making YT vids. Boogie, you're amazing. DeFranco, you're amazing. Can't wait to give that podcast a listen!
