Innocent until proven otherwise... Still happens today, remarkable disrespect from law enforcement towards military personnel. There was that incident in Windsor, Virginia in 2021. I'm sure there are others...

As a kid I just thought Rambo was so cool being able to escape jail from those nasty bully cops, and how cool he was hunting the cops down like a ninja. As an adult, who also served, I understand how real PTSD is and how some folks don’t even want to acknowledge it or even try to understand it. Not to mention how some cops abuse their power to infringe on another’s rights. Such a brilliant legendary film!

@regisjohnson4958 on the assumption this isn't a troll, have you seen the movie? the only thing rambo was guilty of was not complying with teasle's absurd bias towards vietnam vets (detailed in the book and implied in the movie). you can't arrest someone for trying to invest money into your town by buying food at a restaurant, which was what rambo was going to do instead of walking 30 miles up the highway for food. even before that, he wasn't panhandling or doing anything else that would justify him being pulled over anyway. this isn't even mentioning the beating and the water torture in the video we're even commenting on.

When I first watched this as a kid; it infuriated me, but also had me on the edge of my seat. Even as a kid; I couldn’t fathom the disrespect they gave him. Wasn’t until I got older and learned about the Vietnam Vets and the treatment they received did it make sense.

I was saw this movie as an early teen ...that time I couldn't understand why would someone disrespect a soldier like that! Or why is police like that? I am not an American, so I didn't really know the Vietnam thing in detail. I was just interested in the action. And how Rambo is so expert in doing everything and knows when to do what. @@sm0000 *DISCLAIMER: I am not targeting anyone of Vietnamese decent or trying to be racist. I am simply stating facts of the war. A big reason this could be was because (I think) in the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese would send out their babies with bombs on their backs and send them towards American soldiers. They took them in with affection. Bomb went off. Ended up killing our men and the child, too. They had no other choice but to shoot the children, hence came the name "baby-killers". I don't even think they had a choice on what to do. I doubt it was in their power. Also, I'm not too sure about this, but there's this thing called "Agent Orange" that was a chemical compound used by the U.S. military to clear out vegetation or something. It ended up being able to cause cancers and sickness that could've been spread to the Vietnamese. Maybe American citizens thought they'd unleashed a disease to try to intentionally kill the Vietnamese (Remember, I am not 100% sure about this, just a thought!). Personally, I think Rambo portrays a beautiful image on what it was like to come back to disgust, hate, and repugnance (not beautiful as in "good," but beautiful as in it clearly gives a general perspective of how Vietnam vets were treated).

My dad was a Vietnam vet, a Ranger in Phu Bai from 68-69, and he said that if anyone had tried to do this to him he would have slit their throat immediately. He had seen things that would make anyone back in the states go insane, so I believed him. In one engagement, during a flanking maneuver one of his sqadmates ran right into a booby trap and was almost cut in half by a spring-loaded spike trap exactly as what was portrayed in First Blood. This movie took it directly from what veterans of Vietnam reported encountering in the shit, which was absolutely real. They were fortunate that punji pits weren't portrayed in this film, because my dad saw many of them.

Americans love to overstate. I was no soldier but as kid and a teen ager during the tumultuous years of the 1970'sand 80's in my region in the Philippines I have seen so many brutality. The most violent we were just 30 feet away taking cover at a junk jeepney while combined communists and islamist rebels were beheading 3 captured constabulary men taunting the army and other constable platoons pinned down at low elevation ground. Nobody got PTSD from either soldiers or civilians.

You decorated your soldiers with medals even if the only thing they do was go to the fields and fulfill their duty and got shot. In the Philippines and third world countries fighters from government or rebels do horrific things partly out of ignorance or just following stupid orders and get injured or killed with no expectation of recognition and those who survived are not given any allowances for erratic behavior or PTSD or whatever.

The cop at 05:50 is the guy who made the biggest mistake. Even though Rambo was kicking the shit out of all the cops, he still was basically locked downstairs in the jail and wouldn't have been able to unlock the door from the inside. But because that one cop unlocked the door in order to check and see what was going on, he was the one who really enabled Rambo to escape.

I've seen this movie countless times.. grew up on it.. As a kid i understood the deeper layers of movies.. rationally. But the day i saw this movie again, this time, suffering CPTSD myself... The thing I like about this movie is that the entire situation was 100% avoidable. For all his talk of, "the law" Will is a titanic hypocrite, and we see it here in this scene. Will is already abusing his power, but now we see it's not just him, but a good chunk of his department that all act like thugs with badges. Rambo is 100% right: all he wanted was a meal, but these arrogant goons decided to play, "tough guy", and found out the hard way that there is always someone tougher than you!

There is a moment after Rambo's escape that shows Teasle in his office and there is a picture frame behind him with a Purple Heart, Silver Star and Distinguished Service Cross displayed in it. This references a subplot in the book as Teasle is a Korean War (aka The Forgotten War) veteran and is embittered toward Rambo as the Vietnam War has overshadowed his service.

4:21-5:12 super relatable as a person with PTSD with multiple mental disorders, even autism. I'm not a war veteran but a survivor of severe abuse and even SA. The film The Best Years of Our Lives in 1946 dealt with PTSD as well. I had never heard of that film until I was in my 40's which is amazing because it won 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture! One of the three main actors was a veteran who had lost both his hands and had never acted before! Everyone should see it!

The one thing I really respect about this movie is how they highlight PTSD of an ex military P.O.W. Cause there are triggers for some soliders whom come back from war because we can only imagine the horrors they seen or had to do to be alive. So I've seen people break down when fireworks were going off cause it reminded them of the war and had to walk over an hold his hand. With a big group of people standing around all thinking this guys crazy and going back to ignoring him, me and my mom were the only ones that understood and tried to help him. Cause if we didn't step in then who knows what would of happened foreal.

Just goes to show that cops are always tough until they meet their match. When they were chasing him after the first guy got killed, I like the radio report that came through with the first bit of information about Rambo. I remember it said "You guys picked one hell of a cat to go tangling with, this guy is John Rambo I repeat John Rambo, this guy is a Green Beret who served in Vietnam and with a congressional medal of honor"

The difference between Rambo and Matrix is Rambo is not some martial-arts trained combat machine, but just a natural warrior and survivor once recruited for a hellish job. Certainly he's had some degree of hand to hand combat training, but most of it is just instinct and commitment.

Back in the early 1990s, I saw a museum set up dedicated to the Vietnam War. It included displays showing some of the traps GIs got caught in, uniforms worn by the Viet Cong, the South Vietnam army and ours, not to mention the torture devices used in the VC POW camps. I saw a Vietnam War veteran comforting another veteran who had some horrible memories of that war. I gained a new appreciation for what those men did and this movie, as well as Chuck Norris's Missing In Action films. Well done Stallone!

1973 TV movie based on play called Sticks and Bones. Vietnam vet comes home blind and his home life changes everyone. The family lets him commit suicide. Many CBS stations wouldn’t show the movie. I watched it on b&w TV and it was a little mature for me.

In the 1946 film The Best Years of Our Lives, the character Fred Derry played by Dana Andrews is experiencing post-war PTSD, even though it wasn't called that at the time. Derry finds resolution in the airfield scene near the end of the film when he mentally relives his experiences as a bomber pilot, and afterwards goes forward with his life.

JACK STARRETT ROCKS! Actor, director... I was lucky enough to work with him just before he passed. As the psycho that set Rambo off, he was also Gabby Johnson in "Blazing Saddles". He was so proud that the chase scene from "Race with the Devil", a film he directed, made a top 10 list of action sequences. It's also funny to see David Caruso play a wimp. In addition... They captured the periods attitude really well. Out of all the officers, the one who seems to be reasonable(redhead) still thinks he's crazy and the rest don't care. Meanwhile Rambo is terrified and confused, that he'll lose his tag, his freedom just as they tried in Nam.
