This movie is a lot deeper than most people realize. The system, the law and his maker: ALL failed him The ending when he breaks down encapsulated that. Legendary movie way ahead of its time still as relevant today

The sherriff is mostly an asshole, but he gets one good moment at 4:05 where you can see the fear on his face and you can tell that he probably knows he can't beat Rambo, but he hardens up and goes in anyway, because it's his job. Very finely judged performance by Brian Dennehy.
@An0niem4
@An0niem4 Жыл бұрын
Deep down, that sheriff is a great cop, he wants to do his job well. He only misunderstands what his job is in the first place. It's not to kick people out of town to keep it 'boring', but to serve and protect everyone equally. If he had done as little as possible to keep everyone inside of the law, none of this would have happened
@steverogers7601
@steverogers7601 Жыл бұрын
@@An0niem4 I feel like a lot of white dudes, or simply just cops, who keep perpetuating this. The sheriff is an asshole through and through. Abusing his power, violating Rambo’s rights as a person, insulting his own townspeople, threatening his townspeople if they don’t help him use a helicopter, not listening to experienced personnel, putting his men in harms way to satisfy his own ego. Yea “deep down he’s a great cop” my ass.
@An0niem4
@An0niem4 Жыл бұрын
@@steverogers7601Maybe I draw too much from the novel in which the sheriff is only abusing his power in a way he clearly believes is for the good of his townspeople. I agree with you that is violating Rambo's constitutional rights, but that's what I mean by misunderstanding his job. Furthermore, while I have a soft spot for people trying to fix the mess they themselves have made (and putting their own life on the line in the process), I agree the way he ignores everyone and puts everyone in harms way (in the movie) does not make him a great boss or great cop.
@JohnDoe-gk7ok
@JohnDoe-gk7ok Жыл бұрын
I didn’t read the book, but I think the sheriff is corrupt. He lets his desire for heroism overshadow his concern for the safety of the town. When Rambo escaped, it was more personal than business because he couldn’t accept defeat from a civilian. By the end, he begs Rambo to shoot him because he cannot live with defeat and the fallout he will get from Rambo blowing up the town on his watch.
@SoldierOfFate
@SoldierOfFate 7 ай бұрын
Despite him being an asshole, he still played within the rulebook (outside of all he abuse and shit he gave to Rambo). When Galt tried to shoot Rambo, he stopped him once to prevent him from hitting innocent civilians (and knowing Galt, he's probably a shit shooter) and he kept barking at him that he did not want Rambo dead when Galt was shooting at him from the helicopter.

Something about this era of film making, the cameras they used, it really captures the feel and look of a location. It feels like you're there. I think Hollywood got too into filters and stylized looks and crappy digital cameras. Nothing feels or looks real any more.

"Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off!" Those words are exactly what I've felt for 12 years after coming home from war in Afghanistan. It wasn't our war, they asked us we didn't ask them. What we found over there was fucked up and a place that didn't want us there, didn't want to let us win, and we came home broken and covered in scars both physical and mental. We did that for nothing, sacrificed and lost friends for nothing. It's no small wonder that vets from these pointless wars kill themselves everyday, because everything we did and everything we suffered, bled, and lost friends for was all for jack shit. There was no victory and no glory, only death and defeat.

I was medically retired out of the US Army in 1971 at the age of 19. I went "home" but that reality was not mine anymore. I bought a back pack and spent the next 4 years hitch hiking & flying around the country on Space A military flights. I was a nomadic disabled veteran glad to still be alive and I was moving. The hippy movement & anti- war protest were happening everywhere. There were big Rock n Roll concerts playing somewhere every day. The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Cream, QuickSilver Messenger Service, Credence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young , etc etc. I was hanging out with the VVAW guys. Vietnam Veterans Agianst the War. They were involved in all the big Protest Marches & Protest gatherings happening all over America. They were at the Democratic convention up in Chicago & the Republican convention down in Florida. They made a movie about all of that. It was called Born on the 4th of July. I was wandering around America 1969 to 1975. I'm here to tell you that there were Vietnam veterans everywhere! Those were some incredible times. Amazing to live through it all. To have been a part of history. To experience it all. The good, the bad the terrible... It's been a long strange trip. Now, I look around me. The Viet vets are all getting old. Now there is a whole new group of young veterans and once again they got screwed. Now I look around at who is running our government and all the weird teachers grooming children. Our southern border wide open with drugs & invaders Pouring into our communities destroying lives and businesses. Lawlessness & drug addiction going crazy in all our major cities and other places. I am seeing America being destroyed from within. The corporations & greed for money & power are ruining the entire world. Our poor country. Going broke in the woke. Pretty damned sad. And Rambo? Last I saw, he was still fighting. Happy trails everyone.

They messed around with the wrong guy, and he took out the town. All he wanted was something to eat and he would have left as peaceable as he came into the town, until the cop and his boys started pushin him around. Then he gave them a real war they wouldn't believe nor will win against an experienced Green Beret combat special forces vet. Rambo won. Tge town lost, big time.

the funniest and most realistic part in all of this is the fact that the sheriff thinks he's hot shit and can take on a special forces soldier. he think he's in a war against one man, but rambo was still pulling his punches.

I appreciate what the Rambo franchise tried to do...give our Vietnam Vets some RESPECT...it made a dent, but unfortunately, we live in a country where basketball players get more freedom than veterans...I guess we need another Rambo-type franchise to try again eh?

Back then people had higher morals. Murder and rape of innocent civilians did not equate to heroism. Now We live in a country of souless people who cant live without their iphones and social media to numb themselves from reality. What is respectable about invading a country and murdering people to serve the agenda of war profiteering elites? Answer is NOTHING

I always loved people doing what Teasle did. We used to call it "prairie dogging." Plus, if Rambo wanted to kill Teasle, I mean, really kill him, there's no way the roof combing/ parapet, whatever you call it, would stop 7.62mm Nato

As I am growing older and living this world for the next generations and looking back to this movie I am positive that the desire of young men to play will keep things very interesting after I have long departed from this world. Young women will be keep desiring to be wildly penetrated and production of youth will keep moving forward and new brains always around and alive.
