I think the movie is underrated due to the predator itself. This guy is an animal! The predator from the 1st one is a sniper. Blain, Poncho and Duke were all killed with a range weapon, Dillon is mortally wounded and incapacitated from a distance before being killed at close range, Hawkins is blind sided and Billy's death is open to interpretation. If the predator from Predator is a marksman, then the predator from Predator 2 is a wolverine. He's in the thick of it dropping down in the centre of a group of armed men (the armoury + the slaughterhouse), heavy reliance on melee weapons, walks up to King Willie with an attitude, and in the subway scene he says "fuck it" and seems to mostly use his bare hands to throttle people, punch them through windows and rip throats out. Predator 1 is a finesse hunter. A quick and clean kill. But for sheer ferocity, the second predator takes the cake (and the skull and spine).

It's a great movie cus it explores the movie mythos of the predator universe of what they really are n he gadgets it used. It shows more of their culture . That's why I love this film for its extended universe of the predator.

Predators is by default Predator 3 as well a spinoff in a way. It works up by P1's structure as well as P2. It doesn't contradict P2 in any way shape, except for the 2 Avps. The goal was 2 things. 1) Get the franchise back on track 2) Make a classic. Honestly for me they pulled it off. They created a very cool fascinating story arc structure I would love to see more of.

Hey...ever notice the "Alien" skull in the Predator's trophy case in it's space ship? At the end of the movie when Danny is in the space ship. It was only on screen for a second, but I believe it was the first movie tie-in between the two franchises.

Glad to see another fan of Predator 2, this is one of my favorite movies from when i was a kid and still is to this day. Danny Glover is great as well as all the support cast. I liked the fact that this movie was set in the city which felt like a different kind of jungle. my only problem with Predator 2 is that its kinda similar to Split Second with Rutger Hauer other then that great movie. Very nice review, I especially liked how you wanted to understand other people's opinions. Me, I got to watch the whole series just recently and did so by watching a Predator movie once a day, 3 days in a row. So watching these movies for the first time AND almost one after another, I gotta say I loved the sequel just as much as the original. It was indeed very surprising - and refreshing! - to see a regular cop go against a pred, and the city setting worked really well for this movie, too.

So I just finished watched Predator 2 right now and I agree with you Matt, it was a damn good movie and a really great sequel. I actually enjoyed it more than the original even if the original is better. Danny Glover was cool and badass and gave no shits at all. It was fast paced and never stop for a breather or got dull or boring. I really liked how it went more in depth into Predator's mythology and the subtle details that shows that he sometimes spares people's lives. Just like he didn’t kill Mike because he was wearing a vent. I appreciate your recommendation and will definitely check out more of your favorite action movies starting with Cobra soon, but I need to check out some other classics. Keep up with the awesome content, Matt and never stop defending your favorites. Great review.

Went back and watched this last week. This movie is badass. They did a lot of cool new things and the subway and meat freezer scenes are two of the most terrifying sequences in the series. The only problem I had was the Predator's eyes. There were ALOT on unintentional comedic moments of his eyes widening in shock that looked ridiculous. He also talks way too much this time around. Trading quips back and forth with Glover didn't make him intimidating, just silly. All in all, a great sequel and very underrated. AVP:Requiem is also hugely underrated and I loved that film.

Predators is as close you are to getting to get that 80's action feel. Everything practical, practical explosions. Some things were done cg because of better tech from 2"0 years ago. There were some real set dogs on set and enhanced with little cg. I love predator predator 2 and predators to death. Predators to me is a classic.

Loved this film. Just a bit of info, the official book for the movie describes a scene where Arnold's character is in the hospital due to radiation poisoning but rips his IV lines out and jumps a fence to escape. Always found that interesting.

Predator 2 was a film that was unfairly looked down on and deserves respect. The only reason predators was accepted is because it reminded people of the first film, brought it back to the jungle, and had multiple predators. No question, predator 2 is far superior to predators. It was far more original, had much more action, used practical effects, and had a fun cast of characters.

The sequel's climax was even better that the one in the first movie IMO, cause it showed us better how bad ass both the main human character and the Predator were. I was actually disappointed with the final battle in Predator. Maybe cause Arnold's winning just felt too easy... I didn't care that much for supporting cast in Predator 2, probably because I really loved the title alien this time around, while in the original, I found the humans to be way more interesting than the alien.

I love Predator 2. I thought Stephen Hopkins did a very solid job, especially when you consider that he had to work on it and A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child at the same time for a certain amount of time which is insane. Fun fact, Hopkins was also given the opportunity from Fox to direct Alien 3 but he turned it down due to working nonstop getting Dream Child & Predator 2 out on time and he also didn't want to do another sequel to an established franchise which is totally understandable. To go from Elm Street, to Predator, to Alien back to back to back nonstop would have been crazy. I've liked most of Stephen's work. Since about mid to late 2000's he's mostly directed and or produced a lot of good television shows like Californication, Shameless, House Of Lies, 24, etc.

I'd love to see a Predator movie set in a real war zone! That one should be a no-brainer for people thinking about a new setting for the series, IMHO. (I think that such setting could highlight better the "we're all cruel hunters"- theme used in Predators) A desert sounds cool, too, but I'm not sure if it could work that well in an actual movie.

Predators 2 or Predator 4 will be out in a couple years say 2014 or 2015 hopefully. 1) There thinking of going the way of a Noland prequel and his time on the planet. 2) it will be very R-Rated and not waterd down. They might put a 3D which is fine if there's a 2D option. It will be awsome I can't wait.

I also never understood why people have shit all over this film. I asked one of my friends who absolutely hates Predator 2, and all he had to say was "it just couldn't beat the original." So, just because it wasn't better than the original means that the movie itself was absolute shit? It's always puzzled me. Well, I absolutely loved Predator 2. And, believe it or not I like it only slightly more than the original!

This is certainly a very underrated sequel indeed! Still waiting for a really proper sequel to this movie. Shane Black is currently busy making another Predator movie...but...why is it called "The Predator"...jeez...just name it "Predator 3". I don't dislike "Predators" as much as you do, but it's certainly not a worthy sequel, "Predator 2" is! I still don't understand why they chose Adrien Brody as the lead. I did like most of rest of the cast, although I found the roles of Laurence Fishburne and Topher Grace to be kinda out of place.

There's not much honor in hunting suburbanites :) Or maybe it's a ghetto-ish kinda suburb, but than it would be a lot like Predator 2 again! Don't really know what would be a cool "new" setting?! Maybe: an arctic place (yes...we've already had that in AvP) or a desert/rocky place like the Grand Canyon. A jungle again would be fine to me, but I really don't want Predator 3 (or The Predator) to be a remake. Let it be a sequel plz.!

That's what I mean about Predators ALL practical but the little things it does use software to do is very understandable. There were real set dogs ion set but enhanced with cgi to mak them look mean and nasty.

Your'e definitely not alone on how you feel about Predator 2. When it came out i watched it twice on the same day, that's how great it is. I still think Predator is much better cause it scared the living shit out of me when i saw it on age of 11. My heart was beating fast throughout that movie and that's a good thing. Predator 2 was just a great action movie but not so scary as the first but that ain't a bad thing per se. Predator 1 is just a masterpiece to me that i watch at least once a year.

I think both movies are great. I love both of them. I only liked Predators because the story was set in an amazon Jungle and it relaxed me. Kevin Peter Hall returns as Predator. When Gary Busey say's The Lions,The Tigers,The Bears,o may your the Lion and this is the Jungle. Predator 2 the story is set in Urban jungle and is different than the first one. You are 100% right predator 2 doesn't copy predator 1 it has his own story. Predators did copy the first movie. Oh and AVPR Requiem they stole the line from Arnold Schwarzenegger Predator 1!

After 19 years it was done good. I have zero problems with predators just like zero problems with predator 2, they both kickass to me. Praise or not, just look at the films themselves. Predators is mostly all practical too. But movie-tech has enormelsy got better.

But it was nice movie to watch... until it was over, then I thought about it and decided that I really didn't like it. Strange... Loyal review! I love this movie as well to many great scenes to name. The fact that it took place in LA is great. This is totally irrelevant but this movie is the reason I want to visit LA. They make LA look shitty and crime ridden which I believe that it was back then, but that was the pre 80's in effect. Directors actually took to the streets to film, and that's what I miss. You can see it, in the film. Robocop did the same exact thing. That gritty city feeling, you can almost feel the heat of LA. But it's a great action film none the less aside from all his great new weapons. The movie is more believeable to a degree. I always watch this over the first film. It's just more raw and in your face. Here's some violence, nudity, and sex which was pretty much the foundation of most horror flicks all through the 80's. So It Has That Complete 80's Crossover into the early 90's. But the movie to me always delivers the cast is great, the predator is even better more badass. You win on all levels with this film. Predators to me I liked it but it was just a light rip off of the first film with cgi. The ending was almost identical to the first. At least this movie was different all around, from start to finish. Great review though. Thumbs up.

I love Predator 2 and I found Predator 3 worthy after the AVP movies shat over the mythos so I can't take one side. However, if there is a sequel, it should go on it's own tangent and take place in the wild west and have it be a Bounty Hunter Vs. The Predator. Badass Vs. Badass.

i liked this movie as a teenager growing up and i watched it again yesterday this movie is actually quite good mostly considering its age the gangster story line is pretty amusing and there are a few scenes that still hold their time. the metro scene was good and the meat factory scene was dope. i think like alien the first 2 films are good but any of the rest are rubbish. alien 3 was maybe creditable in some people eyes but i didn't really like it. danny glovers actually does a good job i.m.p. guessing arnie was busy making T2. as for predators i thought that was a complete waste of time and money. stupid script and adrian broady is the last person you'd expect to beat-up a predator and he use's the same tactic as arnie in predator 1 covering himself with mud yamn i would give predator2 7/10

The good plot for the Predator is the Desert I going to pretend that AVP films didn't happen but Predator 2 did happen before Predators a sequel to both Predator 2 and Predators. After Predator 2 and Predators OWLF team was in the Middle East or North Africa track down the Predator new soldiers take out bad guys like first and second predator movies the Predator watch and kidnap them take both OWLF and new Soldiers to the planet form predators one guy carry predator mask form predator2
