I'll never understand why engineers have to give credit to their jobs or others take it away. Not many go around and says the team and I did this or that unless you are management or own the company. It's discrediting his work or value by saying others helped doing his job. Any company that has more than one person is a team and most well take credit for the work they do as an individual in the company. In football you don't say the team caught the pass it's about the person who did. Nothing wrong with giving self-credit in team activities of any sort. It's just a form of showing value to the team.

I always say my company did x project if it gets brought up, not me. Then I often add what specifically I did In this example I would say my company built this high rise. I did the structural engineering and design for the steel. Then explain more if asked. I wouldn't say I built or designed this building because obviously one person didn't do that.

the structural engineer is the one that changes the designed to meet the structural integrity of the structure. But of course those changes are done along side the designer. He tells the designer what is possible and what is impossible.
