First came across Ramit on his Netflix documentary “How to Get Rich” - I had my finances organized on excel & because of how transparent his show was , I realized I could be doing so much better with my finances. That woman with 20k monthly income & $5 in her account was mind boggling. His financial wisdom is a Game changer ! Buying his book for sure

Ramit, your comments on why we didn’t learn about this in school are right on target! I’m 75, my kids are savers and investors. But I enjoy getting into the weeds(ie “if I die, you get these two 1031 Exchanged investments at the stepped up value.” That’s just ONE example); they could care less at this point in their lives.

In 1990 I gave my son, who was in 9th grade $700 of Divi Resorts stock (my employer at the time). Just yesterday he told me (again!) that’s the reason he invests today.

Regarding to the landlord, it’s not true point if something is broken and needs to be fixed. You may wait for months until something happens and you have to deal with all the stress

When women aren’t fully engaged in the larger financial discussions, they run the risk of being isolated from important information and decisions regarding their financial futures. The consequences can be significant, particularly when women find themselves “suddenly single.” Whether it be through a death or divorce, etc. we just never know! As a woman, I’m a little disappointed on Lauren’s outlook on money, gender roles, and overall engagement in this conversation.

I totally disagree with his real estate advice. 90 % millennials made by real estate. We invested real estate for almost 10 years in different states. If we listed to him our net worth only 30% than where we are now !

Ironically, you meant to say that you'd only have one third, but you actually said three times as much 3/1 means three wholes instead of one third). Ramit's advice on housing is to run the numbers: how much would it cost to own vs. rent? Diversification. You don't want all your money to be in one asset type.
