Hi Rami, I’m wondering if you can help this enthusiast understand how you find the exact coordinates for a point for the base station or a total station when needed. It seems to me many total station operations you need exact coordinates of a point and for the base station you also need exact coordinates. It seems to me it’s a bit like the chicken and the egg situation. How do you find that exact coordinates of that first point? I’m from the U.K. not the US if that changes anything. Thank you.
@Richard_GIS2 жыл бұрын
Most governments have an open data portal or map where you can normally activate and deactivate layers, there should be all points (at least that one from the governments). Have a look for example in www data gov uk (urls do not work in yt), sometimes it also helps to go for a city data portal - or just ask a local surveyor
@FrozenTint Жыл бұрын
These were existing coordinates that you can find from different surveying agencies or the government.

Hello, thanks to share all your knowledge! if there is no known point near the place we have to survey, how create a georeferenced landmark with the reach?
@samrajdwivedi3 жыл бұрын
Depending on your location, you might find a geo-referenced point from hydrology department of your area, land survey companies near your location or a GTS benchmark. You can then use the baseline transfer to geo-reference your nearby point from the already existing geo-referenced point ( legs of transfer depend on the distance between both the points)

Great video! However, will the base lose its mobile connection when you're out in the field collecting coordinates with the rover? Basically will the hotspot range be a limitation, unless you have two smartphones to leave with the base and one to collect data on the rover?
@islandsurveyor2 жыл бұрын
Good day. With these receivers, the base will not be transmitting corrections via wifi. The corrections will be transmitted via built-in uhf radio (Lo-Ra) or the internet. If the latter is used then both the base & rover will need 2 separate connections to the internet. So the short answer is no - the hotspot range will not be a limitation
@davidkubitz5098 Жыл бұрын
I’m struggling to understand just one thing… How could you know the coordenate of this point that you setup your base station if you “rent or buy” the RTK just for that reason? In my case i picked up some points using a total station, so the only reason im renting an RTK GPS is to reference a materialized point that i used as a base point for the total station. I know that in someplaces you have a geodesic mark, a fisical mark, that has already known coordinates. But in a case that you don’t have this, can you just set up your base station anywhere you want and start yours measurements? I hope you understand my question, English is not my home language 😂 thanks for now
@garyjoaquin2 жыл бұрын
1. What is the maximum distance permitted between the rover and the base station? 2. Is a direct line of sight required between the base station and rover? Will this technology work in a forest where trees may obstruct signals? 3. You referenced a known monument base station longitude and latitude coordinate. If you are in a wilderness setting how is this point obtained? If you are in an urban setting, how is this point obtained?

Which is better on setting rtk survey? Just find a known trusted known point as base as u did then do rtk Or Make a control point lets say at the middle of two known point and then do a site calibrate to get the and compute the coordinates of the control u made for base? Bec. That what we did before Our boss doesnt want to put our based on already made primary control point, he want us to make a control at the middle of two primary control and do site calibrate on both primary control to get the coordinates for the base point weve made. Then after that we do the rtk.. Bec. The reason of that i heard our boss said What if theres error, how can we apply a correction im not sure but i heard something like that idk.
