Watching these episodes has really brought to the surface a lot of rigorously suppressed ideas I had about myself and money. It's also spotlighted the fact that my husband and I don't have a rich life vision. I'm seeing how I allow him to control me through "voicing his displeasure" (can't remember which of your people says this) over my purchases or needs for a sense of home. Very deep stuff - he won't do therapy so I'll have to work out my own strategy. BTW, I'm the money person in our marriage and I've just had major compliments on my management by our retirement advisor!

A home purchase is only good if you run the numbers with all the phantom costs and it's not much more then rent for the living space you need/want. Also you need to consider the loss of flexibility and how important it is to you. The bumbest thing I hear of is people that move to a place and buy immediately after only visiting for maybe 1 month. You should rent for 6 months where you think you want to live and then after that buy if you end up loving it.

With property you have to make sure you can hold it for up to 7-10 years and can handle any huge costs. Plus ensure you understand whether it’s an investment or a luxury/liability.

The part about “paying the mortgage of the sushi restaurant” was def a mind blowing POV changer. PS This also reminds me of all those FBA dropshipper business KZbin ads I see saying “Did you know if you bought something on Amazon, you’re making other people rich?” Lol

Not to mention when you have a mortgage you're paying the bank's profit margin - is that better than paying a landlord's mortgage?

Regarding guilt free spending: What if you always buy something that you take home and put in the pole barn and after 27 years you have a HIUGE pole barn filled from floor to ceiling and you spend all your free time out in the pole barn touching, manulipating and going through your stuff instead of taking your wife on a day trip, going dancing, or doing anything they enjoyed together......I mean really! MYTAKE AWAY: 1) Our childhood is such a huge effect on our adult feelings about money. (I did not expect that.) 2) We seem to hurt each other the most when it comes to money in our relationships why is that? 3) Why is so much of identity wrapped up in how much money we make? 4) We can all be great with money-we just have to learn new skills.

I don’t care how much my net worth grows to, I’m not supporting our economy & system doubling the price of produce. That’s like a moral issue for me & a societally ethical concern frankly. I’m like that guy, I won’t participate in a system that asks me to be fine w/ increasing cost by 100% overnight. Absolutely not.

the value of money goes down, the price of everything goes up. There's no cost cutting when it comes to produce. It is what it is. It's not like a tortilla, where they can keep adding more cheap fillers. Also, look at local growers.

So you’re not gonna buy any produce? Are you going to have your own victory garden?

this is only applicable if your stance is on fast-fashion or other cheaply produced easily broken items. Not fresh food produce. Though granted, some food produce in places like Whole Foods maybe ridiculously jacked up. But some price increases are really warranted, esp considering effects of climate change.

Your individual contribution has little to no effect on the inflation of produce, inflation is affected by the amount of disposable income of the population that is then spent on produce

That’s true about the mortgage, 300 you might as well make it 450. I don’t have a mortgage but that’s what it would look like unless you run your property to the ground which I don’t recommend.

My marriage was like this… so I divorced and now ai go to target whenever I want. So sad… women are expected to work, rear children, clean and cook. Ladies, do not sign up for this if your guy has any sign of not recognizing these obligations are a shared task.

Jack could clean the apartment, do the laundry, and go buy the groceries. He could save all that money and give his wife the help she do badly needs - a twofer!

I believe there is something wrong with a society where one promotes the growth of spending money as networth starts to grow. I miss the part where one aims to just be satisfied and aim for happiness, rather than more....

Oh and my ex husband wishes he had me now and regrets his selfish behavior. His new wife doesn’t lift a finger. They get takeout every night and have a cleaning lady and she has sitters help get her daughter off to school.
