The title "Links 2 3 4" is actually the start of a typical German army song, which indicates with which foot the platoon is supposed to set off marching in synchronicity (the left foot), and the beats for the "Ts-vo Dry Fear" (that's pretty much how it would be pronounced in German) gives the marching speed. It is supposed to be sung, loudly, while marching, to increase lung capacity and stamina. Increasing the number of the beats increased the marching speed as it increased the number of the steps per time unit, giving rise to the English term "double time" in the armed forces for really high speed marching, or 'let's get that ass hauling!' In German the numbers are usually counted as "Zwei Drei Vier" (two three four) but Zwei and Drei are very similar sounding. So to prevent confusion during battle or in radio chatter the army uses the term "Zwo" to differentiate it clearly and audibly from the term "Drei", so the numbers two and three can't be misunderstood. All other numbers up to nine are clearly identifiable in German, but the ambiguity of two and three had to be alleviated. This song begins with loads of alliterations to hearts, what can be done to, with, and for it. Can hearts sing, be broken, pure, made of stone, etc. So it obviously does not conform only to the physical organ in our bodies, but also to our ideology and morals. It also cites that 'They' (whoever those 'THEY' are) want their hearts in the right spot, ie in the right wing (or Nazi) ideology, but when the band members look down on their bodies, they notice that their heart beats to the left. Combine that with the typical marching sound of German militarism which acts as a counter-point to the lyrics and the pounding rhythm and you get a very strong and clear message that, nope, Rammstein is definitely NOT right wing or even Nazi aligned. Especially in the last chorus, when the lines are added: "dann schlägt es in der linken Brust; der Neider hat es schlecht gewusst." "then it beats in the left breast; the envier had known it badly."

I'm going to both the MInneapolis show (about 3-4 hours from where I live), then as part of my vacation to Cali I'll be going with friends to the 9/24 show in Los Angeles(was able to score FZ tix for that one, so I'm really exited, never been in the FZ before)

Great reaction. This song is great for a work out at the gym. The song is a direct musical flip the bird response to the false accusations of the press, for them being right wing. Which is really ridiculous knowing they come from the punk scene. They were young, naive and all grew up in East Germany, not knowing that certain film martial can never be used again. Not even for artistic reasons such as camera angles, cut and so on. It was resealed with the covered the song "Stripped" by Depeche Mode. In the video you see film martial of Leni Riefenstahl from the Olympic games from 1936. They even received death threats. It was absolutely crazy. Sadly people still think that bs when they hear their name. But it's getting better. I have a hoodie with the title of the song. Love it.

It's a snake tongue you're seeing. It was a feature of the Paris DVD that was directed by Jonas Akerlund. The band and a lot of fans weren't happy with the DVD-too many fast edits and effects. Personally, i don't like the Paris video, it's overdone and doesn't work for a full concert. He did some great official videos for the band e.g. Mein Land, Pussy (now there's treat and a half for you) and Ich Tu Dir Weh. I just don't like the concept for the full concert. The song is great, used to cancel out accusations of the band being far right. It's done in a tongue in cheek way with the marching feel to it but emphasises that their hearts are where they're meant to be, on the left so take that as you will politically. Brilliant drums from Schneider hammering all the way through, driving the song, the whole band drawing the crowd in. Bands could learn a lot on how to keep an audience's attention and participation from watching Rammstein in action. They'll never be as good as them at it though. Love your reactions and your enthusiasm. 9 hours, not long in the grand scheme of things. Make the journey man, you won't regret it and it'll stay with you.

@@wildwine6400 OK, but not at this one, because this is not "Feuer Frei" it is Links 2, 3, 4 and she writes "It is a snake-lounge,...". Here is the butterfly and I can imagine. To be honest, I have no idea why they got it out like this, because I am a filmmaker myself (believe it of not) And it would habe already looked stunning and different from others, with the shots they had. Some of them are even "too much", like "Mann gegen Mann". Not even the music video was so wild than the cuts at the live performance. But well, I also know, that it is not only made for me, so It does not matter. By the way, sorry that I forgot it, but I saw the whole Paris one only one time and that was it, so I do not remember every detail. I love the band since 1997, but I do not have to love a video like "Rammstein in Paris", when I find it terrible, for all at some points I had the feeling the director was on a trip. I like to enjoy them without such trips. Enjoy your weekend, by the way, I also love "Wilder Wein".

Either way, I don't think all the effects were needed as the concert stood up for itself as it was. I can see why the band weren't happy with the outcome.

@@fionadowdeswell-simmons4968 Don't worry, with all the stuff which went on, just thought I put it in and well, because I did not like it myself, I was watching it only one time and have to confess that I forgot the tongue in "Feuer Frei" as "Wild Wine" mentioned. So we both where right. 😂 And as I mentioned to "Wild Wine" already, well I do not like it as well, because I also think they over did it and believe it or not, I am a filmmaker myself (not so known, what shells). I do not understand why he did it, because in my opinion, he ruined it even with this effects. They had so great shots and angles (no wonder with this amount of cameras) and than he did this. I hardly get it and I don't want to know, what happened as the band saw it. 🙈 If someone destroyed the TV, or on what ever they watched afterwards? OK, that for the 6 guys are too professional. Sorry, sometimes my "own filmmaker-mind" just "pops up". Well I do more than film-making, which means I am maybe too creative in some situations, sorry. Enjoy your weekend. ❤️
