Rammstein loves to use deeper meanings through metaphors. The song is essentially a reference to the German version of Mr Sandman. It was a show that would tell stories to kids on the TV. This is a darker version of that. In fact they use fairy tales in other songs too. The deeper meaning can be about children being indoctrinated at a young age. Being told whispers of scary things in order to get them aligned and bend their minds with the ideals of the manipulator, be it religion, government, etc. A practice unfortunately still carried out to this day. Rammstein often calls out politics and history (not always), and in this case I think they do. They may be referring to the indoctrination of children of to the Hitler Youth from back in the day.

There's also the heavy references to the novel Der Sandmann by Hoffmann. I truly recommend it. It's very poetic, and plays around with the idea of sanity, obsessive love, vengeance, and lost childhoods (but not in a romantiscised way, which is refreshing).

The reason the crowd are so into it is that it's a f***ing great song. 'My Heart Burns' should give you a clue where the fire is coming from. Have a look at the official video - it's phenomenal.

C'mon this is heavy metal music... we don't sing about flowery romance or sweet serenades or beautiful sunsets...🎃 Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath said it best - in the 1960's, the songs were about love & peace, and they lived in a dreary, polluted city of Birmingham, and they were very angry about it... So they wrote songs that were dark and doom... It's about letting your rage & frustrations out w/ a constructive expression. That's heavy metal...🤘 Black Sabbath wrote 'War pigs' about war... Judas Priest wrote 'Breaking the law' about crime... Metallica wrote 'Harvester of sorrow' about murder... Pantera wrote 'Walk' about confrontations that can get violent... This is not a genre of music where Mariah Carey croons about sweet love... Heavy metal is where James Hetfield screams "Die! Die! Die!" and the crowd loves it! When Cannibal Corpse takes the stage? U better mosh, man!🤘🤘🔥

I was at this festival. Was a cold & very wet weekend but luckily Rammstein kept us nice & warm 🤣 definitely worth seeing live. I think of Rammstein as being more pyrotechnicians who play music than musicians who play with pyrotechnics lol

Once you understand the lyrics the song becomes 1,000x cooler, Till is a brilliant writer. By the way, if you ever get a chance to see Rammstein live, do it, you won't regret it.

For the most part, the Till lead singer has a license for pyrotechnics. Most of the glossy look on his skin is fire gel which keeps him from getting burned. They use a tremendous amount of pyro in their concerts. I have lived in Germany for about 20 years. I was stationed over there in the Military. I never had the chance to see these guys in concert. The concert in Paris looked amazing. If you can watch how they made the video for Mein Herz Brennt. It took them several years to make it is what I got from the video. If I had to compare Till with anybody it would be Marilyn Manson. Before anyone tries to lite me up about that give me a sec. The comparison to me is the wordplay for their songs. They mean so much more than what you hear. The other comparison would be the intelligence of both guys. Get them away from their bread and butter and they are very normal and very smart. Finally, the last thing I have to say is his German is articulated very well. His pronunciation is very sharp. These are my opinions so please don't shoot me for them. Have a good one.
@omanipadmeum73192 жыл бұрын
Rammstein has to be seen live, because they are a weapon there and the incredible crowd control is a trademark of them and no matter in which country they play, the audience sings in German like in Paris.🆒 The action with the fireworks did not even take place in a stadium but in a hall ( Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy ) and would be unthinkable in America due to their immense safety regulations. If they go on tour there, the fans miss out on a lot and will never get to see many effects ! By the way Til does this specific move, called "Til Hammer" cause he had dislocated his knee before a concert and repeatedly hit it in the backstage area to bring it back in. The other band members found this movement totally cool so that he he adopted it for the stage ! Apart from the fact that Til is a trained pyrotechnician, at Rammstein concerts a special stage worker is very close to the stage and is connected by a microphone to the person who controls the fire. He feels the temperature on his cheek and gives corresponding instructions whether you can still step it up a notch or the flames have to be reduced. Another pure madness with with the audience - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHLEenmLjc9nY5o At another concert Til greets his band members, who are carried back to the main stage in a rubber dinghy , with a "Welcome - Sign". A political statement for the refugees who have drowned by the thousands in the Mediterranean Sea. Please look at the live performance of "Ich will" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sICVpWaBhrKDhrs - (with subtitles) "Rock am Ring" is one of the biggest festival events in Germany. The Ring, which we say, is the legendary Formula 1 race track "Nürburgring"(The green hell), located in the middle of a central mountain of Germany, the "Volcano - Eifel". Rammstein was the Headliner and there are more than 85000 fans on the target line and I was right in the middle 😜 and not only the few thousand hardcore fans directly in front of the stage answer Til's questions, but actually the entire audience down to the last row and to have been there and to feel the concentrated energy of the audience was just indescribable ! At some point Ramstein discovered that you can make up with instant coffee. According to concentration, black to red spots appear, which looks like dirt or blood. Flake was hyper nervous all the time during an earlier tour. What did he forget ? That he was made up with lots of coffee in the evening during every concert - Maybe the reason why he needs a treadmill 😉 ? But without Flake Rammstein would never have been what they are. Again and again he is only moved into the nerd corner and underestimated enormously. What most people remember is only the treadmill he is running on while playing. Most of the Rammstein pieces are backed by a mostly inconspicuous but sometimes bombastically symphonic sound body combined with techno elements and so much more. It´s done so cleverly that it is hardly noticeable in the foreground. But if you take it out of the equation and mix it away at the mixer console, the rest sounds almost like any metal band. Together with the typical Rammstein monster guitar riffs the keyboards in the background fill up the entire sound, make things round, and not at least because of this Rammstein sound so unique ! Please check it out - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5uqf4endrxobqc - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIPbiGiMr8qiZqM (here you can see Til flying) Exactly this concert in Germany took place about 20 km from where I lived and you could still hear it over a hill in between and see the light show flickering in the distance. You could clearly experience the sound level at which Rammstein are traveling 💥🤯 ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, this performance was nominated for the Grammy 👍 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3fTm4CEgN2mpKM - The song is based on a true story that happened in Germany. A cannibale looked for someone on the Internet who could be eaten by him and also found someone. Just google "The Rothenburg Cannibal". Totally whacky. Richard Kruspe tells the story in an interview on the DVD "In Amerika" released in 2015. First the police arrested Paul Landers off the stage and then one by one, the sound became thinner and thinner as the other band members were arrestet and at some point he put his guitar down and turned himself to the cops. For Rammstein, who had come together in the former GDR, the left dictatorial eastern part of divided Germany, America was in their imagination the "land of unlimited possibilities" in which you can do pretty much anything. After a night in jail they know that it was a really stupid idea to perform anything like that in a big city in the "Bible Belt" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/poO7nHePibh0oJY - 😱😉 In Germany, this kind of thing doesn't upset (almost) anyone anymore - we're a little more relaxed there. One of the best titles by Rammstein but not as well known is Donaukinder" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZqQmquLpLx0hbc - it´s underpinned by Franzisco Navarro with scenes from the film "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". But be careful, because for those who have even dealt with the Holocaust a little, this is really hard stuff ! At first I was interested, then banned, then horrified and then there were only tears. As a German with a left-wing liberal background, I would have to hate the camp commandant, but otherwise he is also a father. However, someone who lets the children of others gasify without scruples. But something like this had to happen, I guess, so that he finally recognizes this absolutely inhuman madness and his constant self-deception ! "Wo sind die Kinder" - "Where are the children" alludes to the fact that in German death camps, women and children were gassed first so that no more Jews could grow up or be born. "Keiner weiß, was hier geschehen, keiner hat etwas gesehen" means "Nobody knows what happened here, nobody saw anything" refers to the fact that very few Germans wanted to have known about the concentration camps, which of course was complete nonsense. For example, thousands of apartments were suddenly vacant because the Jewish residents had been deported during the night. The very next day, "Aryan" Germans, mostly belonging to the party cadre, moved in. Then many civilian German guards were employed in the death camps, who were even proud of their "work" and bragged about it to their acquaintances and friends. I could give many more examples, which prove that it was total bullshit, when it was claimed not to have seen anything and not to know what was happening there. Rammstein pieces are pure energy and if one can keep his butt still while listening, you should see a doctor as soon as possible 🤣

Keep in mind, these guys grew up in East Germany. The guitarist escaped to the west and started a band in '89, not long before the Berlin wall came down. He went back to the east afterwards and met back up with Till, etc, who had remained in East Germany. They started Rammstein a few years later and have had great success, but having spent their youth crushed under communist dictatorship leaves certain marks that stay. If you're wondering about the colourful and raw nature of their thematic content, I mean.

@@spring_in_paris Arrested and thrown in jail for six days. He left the East as a result, tracking through Czechoslovakia to Hungary, whose border was loosening. After the wall fell he moved back. At least that's what Wikipedia says.

In the style of fairy tales like those written by the Brothers Grimm ( German) which are deliberately scary and very often violent. Kids love that. So do adults but we get taught that such things aren't to be talked about. Children are open to looking at the dark side of human nature.

The videos of this song are wonderful. But do take the time to listen to Tills version that he does just with piano accompaniment. He is the Dark Poet for sure. Good Goddess they are wonderful. Sometimes poetic use of language doesn't always translate the easiest, but you seem to get in the right ballpark through the beat. I believe a close approximation to the intended meaning of "my heart burns" would be either, "my heart yearns" (as in, 'my love burns for thee') or even "my heart breaks" (as in, 'my heart aches for their suffering'); as opposed to the literal, "my heart is on fire" (like...heartburn I suppose?). With the talk of Shadow Fey and 'the things that go bump in the night,' this song always felt like the German version of "Enter Sandman" to me. #LoveAndPeace #RockOn \m/
